First-Class Father Page 20

by Charlotte Douglas

“You always said you weren’t big on presents,” she protested.

He sank onto the sofa and pulled her into his arms. “I wasn’t big on marriage, either, but you managed to change my mind. Now, open it.”

She fumbled with the ribbon and paper and opened the small box. Nestled in the velvet lining was an antique gold locket on a thin gold chain. She opened the locket to find a tri-fold frame. Two of the frames held pictures, one of Dylan, taken on their wedding day, and another of Chip from his second birthday party.

“The baby’s picture will go in the third,” he said.

Her eyes misted with happy tears. “It’s beautiful. Will you put it on me?”

  “Read the inscription first.”

She closed the locket and turned it over. All my love forever, Dylan was engraved on the back.

She slipped her arms around his neck. “Forever is a long time.”

“For loving you?” He pulled her close and his lips moved against her forehead. “Two times forever wouldn’t be long enough.”
