“I want to spend the rest of my life making you happy, making you mine.” Ash looked up into her face, his hazel eyes searching, hopeful, full of so much love Pam thought she might cry from the intensity of it. “Pamela Diederman, will you marry me?”
At his words, Pam did cry, tears flooding her eyes, her heart expanding in her chest. Outside, the ocean whispered against the shore, carrying a salty breeze in through the windows, and Pam was overcome with a sense of complete belonging. Perfection. And yes, some of that Summerland magic she’d never stop believing in.
“Yes,” she said, kneeling down to meet him. “Yes, I’ll marry you, Ash.”
In life, just like in photography, second chances were rare. The fact that she and Ash had been given another shot was nothing short of a miracle, and it made her feel like she could accomplish anything—with or without a plan.
Pam dropped her pen and paper onto the floor, wrapping her arms around Ash’s neck, melting into his kiss. Seconds later, they were peeling off clothing, flinging it onto the counter, into the sink, across the room. They didn’t even bother getting up, trying to make it to the bedroom, both of them overcome with so much happiness, excitement, and yes, that all-encompassing desire that had always burned so hot between them.
Buck naked on the new linoleum floor, Ash settled between Pam’s thighs, sinking into her needy flesh, his mouth hot and urgent on her breasts, her neck, her chin, her mouth, everywhere at once. She arched her hips to meet him, desperate for the touch she’d been missing for months.
There was no talking this time, no innuendo, no jokes or red-hot dirty words. Nothing but Ash and Pam, skin on skin, perfect in every way. It felt like their first time all over again—new, but familiar, inevitable. Simultaneously sweet and sizzling. But for Pam, this time was infinitely better than their first, better than any time they’d been together this summer. It was more than learning each other’s bodies, more than satisfying each other’s desires, more than sending each other over the edge of bliss, more than making love.
This time, it was a promise, full of life and hope and love. A promise they were making together—today, tomorrow, and always.
