“Taylor…” Marcus cleared his throat. “Do you dull the pain with drink?”
Will slowed his pace and stared down at his new puzzle to solve. “Not as a habit. But if you like, we’ll drown our sorrows when we find a place to stay.”
“No.” The degree of urgency in Marcus’ voice said more than his words ever could. “Please, not this time. Lotte never… I mean I want to feel… I want to keep this, if I can.”
Will shrugged. “Anything you say, Lavoie. We’ll cry ourselves to sleep tonight, and you can brand it into your heart forever.”
“I don’t have a heart…” Marcus frowned and then added, “yet,” as though he were trying on hope for size.
