“Tiring,” Jax replied. “But I did get some good news.”

  “Oh?”

“My papers are being processed,” Jax said. “It looks like I’ll be a licensed MMA fighter in a matter of weeks.”

“No!” Maple said, spinning around as she flung her blouse onto the clothes rack to the side of their dressing table. “Are you serious?”

  “Yup,” Jax nodded.

Maple jumped into his arms and kissed him hard on the cheek and lips. “This is amazing!”

“It is,” Jax said and nodded.

“You’ll be happy to leave construction work, won’t you?”

“I will,” Jax said. “But it wasn’t as bad as all that. I met some good guys along the way.”

  “This is so great.”

Jax nodded. “That’s my news... how about you? How was your day?”

“Jodie called during my lunch break,” Maple said, as she shook her hair free from its ponytail. “She’s coming over this Sunday for lunch.”

“Aren’t we going to see your mother on Sunday?” Jax asked.

  “Saturday,” Maple reminded him.

“Ah right,” Jax nodded remembering. “What about school? Did you learn any new nursing techniques?”

“A few,” Maple nodded. “It’s a lot of hard work but... it’s so worth it. I genuinely love it.”

“Good,” Jax said with satisfaction. “Your mom is going to want details.”

  Maple laughed.

“Is it a full day of school tomorrow?” Jax asked.

“Nope,” Maple shook her head. “I have a shift at the restaurant and classes in the evening after lunch.”

“Ok, then how about we have lunch in the city before you head to campus?” Jax asked.

“That sounds perfect,” Maple said as she pushed off her jeans. “Ready for dinner?”

Jax smiled suggestively, as he reached for Maple’s hand and pulled her towards him. “How about we start with dessert?” he said, as he leaned in to kiss her.

Maple laughed as she kissed him back, pulling off his towel at the same time. “Sounds like a plan.”

They fell back onto the bed together, laughing and kissing, exploring each other’s bodies as though it was the first time. Jax grabbed ahold of Maple and rolled over gently so that he was on top. He hovered over her, staring into her deep brown eyes.

“I love you, Maple,” Jax said fervently.

Maple’s answering smile was breathtaking. “I love you, Jax.”

“You saved me, you know,” Jax said softly.

“You saved me right back,” Maple said, her eyes were ablaze with emotion.

Jax smiled. “That’s a good place to start.”
