“Thank you all for coming to Macy’s official birthday celebration even though its several months late. Anyway, this is also to announce our commitment party.”
I pulled Myles and Jonas by the arms and everyone cheered for us. Hastily, I grabbed the bag that had I’d been chomping at the bit to pull out for the past couple of weeks.
“So, Myles, Jonas. I have something to give both of you as a symbol of our love. My grandmother told me when I found the one I loved more than anything or anyone I should give it to them. I’m sure she never meant two people, but none of that matters. We’ve got rings, but this is more personal and special to me.”
When in Chicago, I met a jeweler who specialized in rare pieces. Fortunately, he’d been able to make a replica of the pendant I’d given Jonas months ago before we invited Myles into our union.
To show them and everyone, I opened the box and pulled out the two necklaces that looked like the ring I’d had crafted by the same jeweler. I handed one to Jonas first.
“Santi…” Jonas said, taking his from me and kissing me gently on the lips. “Aw, this is even better having it a second time. Thank you.”
I assisted Jonas with putting his on.
I then turned to Myles, and he accepted it with a smile.
“Love, this is gorgeous.” Myles said after kissing me in the same manner.
I helped him too and shifted to face the both of them.
“Now this proves my commitment to the both of you. I want you both to be my forever. And I’d like to invite everyone to our ceremony here at the house to witness us recite our vows to one another.”
Again, everyone cheered and raised their glasses in toasts while we hugged and kissed each other in kind.
“Hey, you guys need drinks too, right?” Pamela ran over and forced glasses into our hands filling them with wine.
We all laughed and toasted with each other and everyone else.
“Well damn. Here’s to ya’ll, for making us believe in miracles,” Ezekiel said with a chuckle. Again, we all shared in that laughter, but deep down inside, I believed.
When Pamela asked me a while ago if I wanted this, I’d said yes without hesitation. I knew it would be a stretch, but in the recesses of my mind, I felt I could make my life’s dream come true.
Yes, this was my life.
My dream come true.
My lovely, fucked up postcard had become a reality.

Author’s personal note
In June of 2011, my cousin Scottie Collins took his own life. After his death, my uncle informed me he did it because he was gay and felt he had no one to turn to. When I learned this, my writing took on a whole new meaning. It was no longer about writing hot, sexy stories or making lots of money. It was about letting people know they can be happy with who they are and be loved for it.
One thing I try to bring out in every book is it’s okay to be different and you’re never alone. If no one understands or you feel you need some help, don’t hesitate to ask.
