Caught in the Act Page 4

by Saskia Walker

She was raw, undone, and the words rose of their own accord, her body arching against the shield of his. “It’s not you. It’s just that, it’s hard,” she blurted, “being an engineer, being a woman in a man’s world.” She tensed, waited for the laugh, for the inevitable tease.

It didn’t come. Instead, he kissed the end of her nose. “It’s okay, I understand. But you don’t have to be tough all the time. Sometimes you can let me be tough for you now. Yes?” His expression was serious, and his eyes shone with admiration.

She couldn’t reply, not with words.

Moving up against him, she closed her eyes and rubbed her face against his stubbled chin, because she liked the way this man took charge of her. She liked how he broke her stubborn will, and she liked how he made her enjoy this thing between them.

  She liked it a lot.

Three days later, Liam drove up to Chrissie’s office as she emerged from the building. She waved over at him. She was dressed smart; her trademark short skirt part of a fitted suit, her soft blonde hair swept up and clipped behind her head. When she climbed into the car, she reached over and kissed him, smiling.

“I take it the meeting wasn’t as bad as you thought it would be?” Two of the company directors had traveled to speak with the staff about reorganization in the wake of Theresa’s departure.

“No. In fact…” She stared at him, slightly shell-shocked. “I can’t quite believe it, but they offered me Theresa’s job. I’m going to be in charge of all projects allocated to the design team at this office!”

“Every cloud has a silver lining, huh?” He was glad she’d had this boost.

“Yes. It does.” Winking at him, she reached over and stroked his jawline. “And I know exactly how I want to celebrate,” she added and unclipped her hair, shaking it free over her shoulders, giving him a smoldering glance.

Why was it that just one sign of interest from her could make him painfully hard? “I’m listening.”

“I don’t want to go out for dinner after all. I want to get take-out, get home, strip and drink champagne…from your naked body.”

Liam turned the key in the ignition, revving the engine. “Anything you want, Chrissie, anything at all….”
