The Mystery of the Lone Wolf Killer Page 31

by Unni Turrettini

2000–2001: Was coached by my former mentor—and managing director of Hypertec AS, Richard Steenfeldt-Berg over a 12 month period on the areas: management, administration, corporate/business/organization development (May 00–May 01).

1995–1998: Oslo Handelsgymnasium/Hartvig Nissen High School

  Board positions, professional activities, responsibilities

2003: Candidate for the Oslo City Council election on behalf of the Oslo Progress Party. This was during the “crossroad” when I was in the process of deciding whether I would fully abandon conventional politics (and a career within conventional politics) as a solution/source to acquire funds for the future operation or if I would rather leave conventional politics altogether and rather focus on entrepreneurship/business as the source for financing my future and clandestine participation in the pan-European Conservative Revolutionary Movement/pan-European Resistance Movement. As you already know, I became one of the founding members of the PCCTS, Knights Templar in 2002 and among the very first Justiciar Knight Commanders. However, regardless of this choice, I was not completely convinced I was done with conventional politics. I actually decided to do a last push (after my pledge to the PCCTS) as I was already nominated on behalf of the Oslo Progress Party for the City Council election in 2003/2004. I came relatively close to being elected but was not among the final contestants due to the fact that the Progress Party Youth (lead by my rival Jøran Kallmyr) refused, for strategic reasons, to support my candidature. At the time I was more popular than Jøran but needed the support of the youth organization (an organization I had been a part of for a few years). I don’t blame him for backstabbing me like that, though. After all, he had invested so much more of his time in the organization than I had. He deserved it while I didn’t, and I would probably have done the same thing if I was him.

Also, during the “crossroad phase” I had lost all faith in the Progress Party as a solution to Norway’s rapid disintegration due to multiculturalism and Islamization. A moderate cultural conservative political party like the Progress Party is incapable of solving any of our primary problems as they are systematically ridiculed and isolated by all other political parties and a united media sector. This, even despite of [sic] the fact that they have taken measures and gotten rid of all true nationalists ending up with only opportunistic career cynics unwilling to take any political risks.

The Progress Party is now a part of the problem as they continuously give the Norwegian people false hope and thus contributes to pacifying them. They should rather be honest and admit that all hopes for the democratic change of the society is futile and rather encourage all patriotic Norwegians to resist the multiculturalist regime through armed resistance. Their unwillingness to do this makes them a central part of the problem and in fact an obstacle to the liberation of and the reconquista of Norway.

I anticipate that the Norwegian media will persecute and undermine the Progress Party for my earlier involvement in the organization. This is not a negative thing as an increasing amount of Norwegians will then have their “illusions of democratic change” crushed (if the Progress Party is annihilated by the multiculturalist media) and rather resort to armed resistance. From a tactical and pragmatic viewpoint, the PC Media’s defeat of the Progress Party will benefit the armed National Resistance Movement in Norway. The more moderate alternatives are persecuted, the more likely it is that the average nationalist’s illusions of peaceful reform will be crushed, which will lead to him seeking “other means.” Because at this point, armed resistance and the violent overthrow of our regime is the only thing that can save us.

2002: Founding member (national representative) of the PCCTS, Knights Templar, in London (April).

2002: Member of the board of directors of the control authority for Majorstuen Eldresenter (Majorstuen Retirement home), political position for the Norwegian Progress Party.

2002: Member of the board of directors for Uranienborg Elementary and Secondary School, political position for the Norwegian Progress Party.

2001: Development of the financial prospectus for Hypertec AS in cooperation with NB Partner AS and PriceWaterhouseCoopers DA (Jan 01–May 01).

2000–2003: Board member in Progress Party Frogner and Vice Chairman in the Progress Party Youth–Oslo West.

  TIMELINE OF EVENTS

  JULY 22, 2011

  15:00 HOUR

15:16:30: Anders Behring Breivik drives a white Volkswagen Crafter and parks it in front of the main entrance of government building H, ignoring the NO ENTRY sign. Building H houses the Prime Minister and the Justice Department. Inside the car is a 950-kilogram bomb made from a mixture of fertilizer and fuel oil, inspired by Timothy McVeigh’s bomb in Oklahoma City.

Breivik is angry when he discovers a car already parked where he had planned to park his van. In this location, the impact of the explosion would make the building collapse.

15:16:46: Breivik opens the front door of the car.

15:17:02: Breivik steps out of the car. He stands outside it for seven seconds.

One of the guards takes note of the van parked illegally and of the man dressed like someone working in private security.

15:17:09: Breivik quickly walks away toward Hammersborg Square, where he has a silver-gray Fiat Doblo waiting.

15:18:30: A witness spots what he describes as a suspicious-looking man in the government quarter in downtown Oslo. Seconds later he hears the man unlock a car at Hammersborg Square and gets a glimpse of Breivik’s face as he drives down a one-way street in the wrong direction. He takes note of the car’s registration number and calls the police to report it.

15:25:22: The bomb placed in the Volkswagen Crafter explodes, killing eight and injuring several hundred.

15:26: The police receive the first reports of the explosion from witnesses.

15:28: The first police patrol arrives at the scene of the explosion.

15:58: The press confirms that Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg is not among the victims of the attack. Shortly later, the press announces that no government ministers have been injured.

The police emergency phone line has been jammed with calls from witnesses. Witnesses provide police with the description and license plate number of Breivik’s getaway car. However, in the confusion, the police take too long to react on the information, and Breivik gets away.

  16:00 HOUR

16:22: Breivik’s rented Fiat Doblo passes a traffic camera at Næss Camping. It takes three minutes to drive the distance from Næss Camping to the Utøya ferry landing.

The police have still not sent out an alarm to try to find the suspicious silver-gray Fiat Doblo with the license plate VH 24605 after the tip they received following the explosion.

16:30: The participants at the summer camp of the Labor Party’s youth division on Utøya gather in the camp’s main house to be informed about the explosion in Oslo.

  16:55: Br
eivik, disguised as a police officer, arrives at the ferry landing in Tyrifjorden, a lake some 40 kilometers northwest of Oslo. He identifies himself as Martin Nilsen from the Police Intelligence Unit. He gets help to carry a big black case containing weapons and ammunition onto the ferry. A witness describes Breivik carrying a handgun and a rifle and wearing some sort of police uniform and an ID card around his neck. From there he is transported by the Labor Party Youth League’s ferry MS Torbjørn to Utøya.

  17:00 HOUR

  17:18: Breivik arrives at Utøya.

17:22: Breivik fires the first shot.

17:24: The Emergency Medical Services (AMK) in Drammen is informed of the shooting.

17:25: The police in Oslo are informed of the shooting.

17:26: The local police in Hønefoss learn about the shooting.

17:30: The Emergency Response Unit, a counter-terrorist police unit situated in Oslo, is dispatched from Oslo to Utøya. No helicopter is available, and they are obliged to take a car and get through rush-hour traffic as they are driving out of Oslo.

17:33: The first police patrol leaves Hønefoss.

17:38: The local police officially ask the Oslo police district for assistance.

17:50: The police patrol from Hønefoss arrives at the Utøya ferry landing, but the officers have to wait for a suitable craft before they can cross the 600 yards over to Utøya.

  18:00 HOUR

18:01: Breivik calls 112 (emergency telephone number) to surrender, hangs up, and continues to kill.

(Breivik later claimed he had dialed the number several times but had trouble getting through. And when he finally did, he introduced himself and said he wished to surrender.)

18:09: The Delta Emergency Response Unit from Oslo arrives at a landing north of the Utøya ferry landing, unable to find the nearest landing. They have to wait for a boat to take them to the island. The boat that is finally provided is too small for the number of personnel and their equipment, and the engine stops during the crossing. The team transfers over into two privately owned open leisure boats.

18:25: The Delta Emergency Response Unit arrives on Utøya and goes ashore.

18:26: Breivik calls 112 again to surrender and hangs up.

18:34: Breivik is apprehended, without resistance, by the police.

Eight people died in the bombing attack in the center of Oslo, and at least 209 people were physically injured from the bombing, twelve of them seriously.

In total, seventy-seven people were murdered that day.

Sixty-nine people died in the Utøya massacre, and at least 110 people more were injured, fifty-five of them seriously. Thirty-two of those killed were under 18 years old; the two youngest were 14 years old. The average age of those killed at Utøya was 19.7 years old.

  APPENDIX FIVE

  BREIVIK’S PRIVATE E-MAILS

In 2012, after the trial, Kjetil Stormark, a Norwegian journalist and author, published part of Anders Breivik’s email correspondence prior to the attacks on July 22, 2011. Stormark had received—six days after the massacre—more than seven thousand e-mails from numerous accounts Breivik used from Norwegian hackers who were just as appalled by the bloodshed as the rest of the world. He was told to deliver the material to the police in order to help the investigation, and he did.

The information in these e-mails, which Breivik never meant to publish, indicates what this Lone Wolf was thinking, and how he was functioning in the years before he committed mass murder. The e-mails show that Breivik was an intelligent and balanced person in most ways, and that he seemed to function normally. He even showed compassion for others. Like other lone wolves, Breivik knew how to pretend to function in social situations when necessary. Extremely calculating and protective of himself and his cause, he was able to hide his true motives, and there is no reason to believe that the people he corresponded with had any idea what Breivik was planning.

The following is a translation of a selection of the e-mails Stormark published in The Mass Murderer’s Private Emails.

  COMPUTER GAMES

On June 6, 2012, Verdens Gang published a letter Breivik’s sister wrote to their mother about her concern for her brother isolating himself and playing computer games:

Anders is going nowhere, Mom. He wants nothing in life, apart from what he has done in the last few years plus what he is doing now. When you gave him the phone after you and I had spoken, he asked if he could call me back later, because he was in the middle of a “discussion.” I asked him what kind of discussion, and he didn’t want to answer. When he called me back, he told me he was playing. So evidently he is still doing that! It’s not normal you know, Mom! He is 30 years old!! There are no normal human beings that keep on like this.
