“I love you, Hannah.” He said before kissing her again. “I love you so much. You should see how much our daughter looks like you. Please wake up. Please.” He said before making sure the wound he’d given her was covered then he left feeling disgusted with himself.
*
Night had fallen, which prompted the redheaded werewolf to emerge. She wasn’t sure if anyone was hunting her; so she couldn’t be too cautious.
Cas had murdered Ashley’s entire werewolf pack. She wasn’t sure why he had let her live, or if he had another plan for her, but she did know that she was thankful but suspicious. She vied for revenge; she wanted the one thing he could never live without: his child, the abomination.
After Cas had murdered everyone, Ashley had run off to the nearest city to hide. Brian had made friends with one of the other packs around there, so she went to them for help. They were willing to take her in and listen to her story. They understood why she was seeking revenge so they agreed to help her. In the meantime, they had given her a roof over her head and food in her belly.
Ashley entered the apartment silently her ears straining to hear any kind of noise. She walked through the small all-white apartment with careful measured steps, looking out for her target. A figure appeared behind her while she was busy going from room-to-room. Suddenly, the figure lunged for her and pushed her up against the wall.
Ashley growled and tried to head butt him, but he was too quick and pressed her harder into the wall.
“What are you doing here, wolf?” He whispered into her ear.
“Looking.” She choked out as he held her by the throat.
The man smirked at her and she glowered.
“For?” He asked, prompting an answer from her.
“You, obviously.” She said rolling her eyes.
“Why?” the mysterious man asked.
“I need somewhere to stay.” She said, as he loosened his grip on her throat.
He laughed and moved away from her and towards his kitchen.
“And why would I let you stay here? I haven’t seen you in quite sometime, Ashley.” He said.
“Kyle…” She trailed off, wanting to say more, but not knowing how to phrase it.
He didn’t turn towards her but instead began to rummage inside his fridge, looking for a beer.
“Ashley…” He said, mocking her when she didn’t continue. He pulled a beer from the fridge and stalked back towards her.
“What do you want?” He asked again.
She sighed, “I need a place to stay.” She said again.
“Why are you asking me? Won’t your precious brother say something about it? Won’t he look down on you for associating with me? Again.” Kyle said dryly.
Ashley frowned and looked away from him, “Brian’s dead.” She said bluntly. Then she went on to tell him exactly what had happened. At the end of her story, Kyle had clearly softened to her. He could see the hurt in her eyes and the pain in her body language. He found himself wanting to help her despite their history.
“All of them, dead?” He asked astounded.
She nodded, feeling the now familiar pain wash over her body at the thought of her deceased friends and family.
“All over a human?” Kyle said shaking his head in amazement.
“I know.” She said bitterly.
Kyle sighed and finished off his beer before grabbing another.
“So, why are you telling me this? Other than wanting my sympathy, of course.” He said.
“I’m telling you because he left me alive and I have one last thing I need to do.” She said quietly.
“Why did he leave you alive?” Kyle asked interestedly.
She shrugged, “It doesn’t matter. All that matters is that he did and now I’m going to act on my revenge.” She said bravely.
Kyle chuckled, “And what do you plan on doing?” He asked.
“I’m going to kidnap their abomination.” She said.
“And then what? Are you really going to kill a defenseless child?” Kyle asked, amused by her faux bravery.
She looked away, “Listen, I have the entire pack on my side, but I need one more powerful wolf, and that’s you Kyle. I know you, and I know how powerful you are. Besides, once we get the baby, I think this would be a good place to keep it until we decide what to do with it.” She said eyeing him.
He stared at her, “You want to keep a child here? Do I get a say in this?”
She smirked, “I think it would be the best plan. You’re off the grid and have cameras everywhere, plus you’re about the most paranoid person I know. And I know you love the hunt and kill, I think you’ll have fun.” She said trying to be convincing.
He shook his head, “A baby here though? For how long?”
She sighed, “Is that all you can concentrate on? Come on! This will be fun! When was the last time you were in a good fight?” She said batting her eyelashes at him and pouting.
“I just wanna know how long I’m supposed to keep a child here. I’ve got a life too, you know.” He said rolling his eyes at her childish pouting.
She frowned, “I don’t know, no more than a few weeks. Don’t worry; I’ll let you continue giving eighteen-year-olds mooneyes and seducing them into bed. I won’t get in the way, trust me.”
He scowled, “I don’t…whatever. But I’m not playing house with you, Ashley. Been there, done that.”
She glared at him, angry that he brought that up. “I’ll be back in a few days when I have a more solid plan.” She said.
“Looking forward to it.” He said sarcastically, watching as she turned and left without so much as a goodbye.
The hospital was dark. The only sound was the beeping of the machine in Hannah’s room. Without warning, the unconscious woman shot from her sleep and stared around the room in alarm. She took several deep breaths as she tried to understand what was going on. The last thing she remembered was being in the stone room. She felt odd, weak but strong. She wanted to leave the room and see Cas. She needed to see Cas.
Without thinking about what she was doing, Hannah picked up the phone and dialed Cas’s number. She didn’t care what time it was, she just needed to see him and make sure their baby was OK Cas’s phone rang a few times and then went to voice mail. She frowned in anger, wanting to know what exactly was going on. She figured she deserved that right after all. She called for the nurse to tell her how she happened at the hospital but when the nurse came in and saw her, she nearly fainted.
Hannah was then quickly tended to, all the doctors seemingly scrambled in to help her, but the only thing she could ask was, what happened to her baby and where was Cas.
Chapter 5
Cas rushed into the hospital carrying Coral, who was crying into his chest. He received the call in the middle of the night from Dr. Sing. Finally, he arrived at the room and hesitated for a brief moment, before walking in. Cas was nervous to see her, not knowing what to expect.
He paused in the doorway, watching Hannah. She was sitting up in bed and watching the television with a bored look on her face. She didn’t notice him at first, but when Coral started to fuss, she looked towards the noise. Neither of them said anything for a few minutes. Hannah felt her heart lift inside herself with joy as he took a tentative step towards Cas and her daughter. As if snapping out a haze, Cas rushed to her and pulled her tightly against him, careful not to crush Coral. Hannah could feel tears of joy rushing down her face as she was enveloped in his arms. She felt happy for the first time since waking up. She pulled Cas closer and breathed in his scent, having missed it for so long.
“I’ve missed you.” She whimpered, pressing her face into the hollow of his neck.
He nodded, not trusting his dry throat. He didn’t want her to know he was crying; he was trying to be strong for her.
“Is this her?” Hannah asked, moving away slightly to see the baby.
The child gurgled at her, making Hannah smile.
“Can I?” She asked hesitantly.
> Cas nodded, tears were leaking from his eyes, despite trying to keep them in.
She cooed at the baby, making Coral smile. Hannah held her close, enjoying the feel of her child in her arms.
“I’m so happy you’re awake.” Cas said in awe when he finally calmed himself down.
“Me too.” She said looking up from their daughter to him. “I love you.” She added.
Cas smiled, “I love you, too.”
The small family stood in the room together, too happy to move.
Hannah was discharged the next day. Cas carefully loaded her and their child into the car and drove them back to their home. Despite their happiness, they were also mentally exhausted and they each were unsure what to say to the other, afraid of bringing up any tormenting memories. Hannah was especially interested to know what happened to the werewolf pack. While her body had long since healed, her mental state was still questionable. She also was confused as to how she was awake.
“Do you want to talk?” Cas blurted out, reading her mind.
She looked over at him with a small smile. “That’s funny, I was just thinking about that.” She admitted.
“What? Talking?”
She nodded, “There’s just so much…so much I wanna talk about, but…” She trailed off not knowing how to finish her thought.
Cas sighed, “What do you want to know?”
“What happened to the pack?” She whispered.
He glanced over at her. He didn’t want to tell her. He didn’t want her to think less of him.
“I killed them.” He admitted, against his better judgment.
She was silent as she took in the information. She kept her face completely clear and devoid of emotions. Finally, she reached over and squeezed his hand.
“Good.” She said, watching as he turned from the road and to her again.
He nodded and giving her a soft smile, relieved she was safe.
“It was for you, Hannah. I couldn’t…it was terrible without you…” He trailed off, not wanting to break down again. “I was so scared.” He finally said after a long pregnant pause.
“Me too.” She admitted.
He squeezed her hand back, reassuring himself she was actually there.
“I can’t believe you named her Coral.” She said with a laugh, looking in the review mirror at the baby. She was wiggling around wanting to get out of her seat.
“It was the first thing I could remember that you like. Do you like it? We can always change it.” He said shifting, uncomfortably.
“No. No. I love it. I can’t believe you remembered I liked corals! “ She said giggling as the baby smiled.
“Good. Good.” He said for lack of anything else to say.
She smiled and they drove the rest of the way home in silence. For the first time, Hannah felt like everything was going to be OK

It took a few days, but Hannah finally was able to get into a routine. She was nervous that she wouldn’t be able to get back to normal, but after spending some time with Cas and the Coral, Hannah she was able to finally fully relax. Cas went back to work and she was staying at home to take care of Coral, with occasional help from Mrs. Moon, who was one of the kindest ladies Hannah had ever met. It was nice to be able to go over to her house and talk with her. Of course they changed the version of what had happened to her, but for the most part, it was the same. She’d been kidnapped and beaten, resulting in her premature pregnancy and falling into a coma.
Hannah knew Mrs. Moon was lonely, especially since she wasn’t babysitting Coral anymore so Hannah made it a habit of bringing Coral over to Mrs. Moon’s to visit. It also allowed Hannah to have a little adult time. When she had an issue with Coral, she always rang up Mrs. Moon for advice. She knew she would get the hang of it, but she liked the extra help once in awhile.
Hannah was at Mrs. Moon’s four days later. They were outside in the backyard with a baby bouncer for Coral to play in. She and Mrs. Moon were outside having cold lemonade and discussing silly things while Coral danced and giggled in her bouncy seat.
“How’s everything been at home?” Mrs. Moon asked, sipping her tea.
Hannah nodded happily, “I mean, it’s obviously an adjustment, but I hope that with time, it will get better.” She said softly, looking down at the baby.
“I gotta tell you. You’re boy was very anxious and unhappy while you were…gone.” Mrs. Moon said sympathetically.
“I just felt so darn sad for him with everything that was going on.” Hannah felt a pang in her heart twist knowing how sad Cas must have been. “I was thinking of asking if he’d like to go out this Friday. I just feel that we both need a little more cheer in our lives, after everything that happened.” Hannah said looking over at Mrs. Moon.
“I understand. If you’d like, I’d be happy to take her Friday night.” She said understanding the unasked question.
Hannah smiled gratefully. “I wouldn’t generally ask this of you, but I think Cas and I need some time to ourselves. I mean, I guess we could go to therapy, but I want to wait on that to see if there’s really a need, you know.” Hannah said, wanting the older woman to understand.
“Believe me, sweetheart, I get it.” Mrs. Moon smiled and leaned forward to pat her hand. “Bring her over on Friday and you too can have some adult time. Like I said, I’ve had children. I know that every now and again, the parents need some time to themselves.” Mrs. Moon said, nodding.
Hannah smiled, “Thank you.”
“It’s no harm, sweetheart.” She said looking down at the baby. “We’ll have tons of fun, isn’t that right, sugar?” Mrs. Moon cooed.
Coral giggled and reached for her. Hannah smiled at the child. She was a little sad that Coral wasn’t being affectionate with her yet. But there was still time for things to change, she thought.
It took a lot of convincing, but eventually, Cas relented to going out with Hannah on Friday. She knew that he was just nervous about leaving Coral, but at the same time, it bothered her that he needed so much convincing to go out with her.
“Are you sure this is a good idea?” He asked, agitated, as he got ready for dinner.
“Cas, we need to talk about us, figure everything out. I need to know what’s going on with you.” She said desperately trying to get him to understand.
“Hannah…” He trailed off sighing heavily. “I just don’t want to leave Coral alone.” He said after a long pause.
“She won’t be. She’ll be with Mrs. Moon.” Hannah reasoned.
“But—“
“You’ve been leaving her with Mrs. Moon for awhile now, what makes this so different?” Hannah snapped.
Cas looked at her for a minute, taken aback by her tone. “Fine. Let’s go.” He said before leaving the room. Hannah watched him go, feeling guilty. Hannah wanted to understand why he was being so distant with her. She was finally ready for the truth and wanted to give it in return, as well. She figured a dinner and maybe some naughty time would make everything better.
“Are you ready?” Cas called up to her.
She looked at herself once more in the mirror and then made the slow descent down the stairs. He gave her an appreciative nod before they left the house. Hannah trailed behind Cas, who was holding Coral protectively.
Chapter 6
Ashley could see the old woman and the baby in the living room of the neighbor’s house. She was hiding in the bushes, waiting for the proper time to strike. She had been watching the house for the last few days, waiting for the right time and finally, that night, she had found her opening.
She saw Cas and Hannah leave the house, dropping the baby off with the old woman and drive away. It didn’t really matter to her where they were going, she just wanted to get that baby and make them suffer for the pain they caused her.
She wanted to wait until the old woman had put the baby down and left it alone. She needed the angle of surprise for this to actually work. After a long wait, the old woman finally put the baby down in its
car seat. Ashley, quietly creeping into the house, the back door was open, much to her surprise, and as quietly as she could manage, she went into the living room where the baby was. As she entered the room she saw the old woman guarding the child.
Ashley rolled her eyes at her while placing her hands on her hips.
