The being smiled, “Exactly. We’re going to be leaving in a few moments and will not be taking any further action here.”
“Why?”
“I really can’t say; we’ve done enough. Your destiny is your own from this time forward.”
Andy’s eyes narrowed, “You need us here.”
The being smiled and said, “I knew you were something special. Thank you for coming.”
“But…”
The being extended an arm out of its lump of a body and put it on Andy’s shoulder, “Just know that you are important to us and we’ll be hoping for your success.”
Andy looked at the being and said, “Are you the ones that destroyed the planet in Carrie’s time?”
The being’s smile vanished. It took its arm off Andy’s shoulder and stared at him. It didn’t answer, but Andy knew. Andy shook his head, “You killed us before you knew we were needed.”
The being’s smile returned and it said, “I said you were something special. You can take your glider above my ship and the heat will take you high enough to return you to your family. Thank you for coming.”
The being turned and seemed to glide over the ground. The head seemed to disappear into its body and Andy saw a door open in the side of the ship just before the being went through it. He heard a loud hum and he ran to the glider. He unfolded the wings, buckled the harness, and ran toward the ship. He launched himself toward it and the glider immediately started rising on hot air coming of the giant ship’s hull. He spiraled above it and the hang glider rose rapidly into the sky. He continued to climb until he was three miles above the ship and he turned and headed toward the distant cliff. He moved away and looked back over his shoulder as the giant ship rose slowly and hung above the ground for a moment before it disappeared.

The being looked at the others on the ship. They were astounded at what they heard and the ship’s commander said, “That is a smart human.”
“I told you that from the beginning.”
“Do you think this will cause a problem?”
“No, he’s not going to tell anyone.”
“How do you know that?”
“He won’t do anything that will cause fear among those he loves.”
“I hope you’re right.”
The being looked at the monitor and stared at the man on the hang glider. Their future was hanging under its wings.

Andy made the cliff wall an hour later. He knew there would not be any more problems with the appearance of caves. The community was now safe from future attacks. He came over the cliff and saw Carrie and Anna in the clearing below. Anna must have smelled him coming. She was turning circles and Carrie was holding one of Anna’s babies.
He thought about Linnae and missed her so much. There was a place in his heart that would always be a void. But he had found love again and his new love was really something special. He glided in and Carrie put Gronk down, ran forward, and wrapped her arms around his neck. Andy pulled her close and whispered in her ear, “Will you marry me Carrie?”
Carrie leaned back and her smile was enormous, “I will!” Andy kissed her tenderly and when he broke the kiss Carrie said, “You need to go flying more often.”
Andy knew her smile was back to stay. He pulled her into his arms again and said, “I’m always flying when I’m with you.” Carrie leaned back and stared into Andy’s eyes until Anna bowled both of them off their feet. They started laughing as Gronk ran and crawled up on Carrie’s chest as Anna rolled over on her back and extended her head to Andy. Andy rubbed her jaw and both dinosaurs started groaning their happiness. Two weeks later, Andy began training Anna to carry him. Her babies grew to become formidable in carrying riders to chase down carnivores to clear the land for the community’s farms.
Epilogue
Fifty years later, all the communities gathered for Andy’s funeral. The Romans build a giant stone monument and placed it over his burial place in front of the cave he had entered the new world. The three thousand humans that had been brought back in time had grown to more than ten thousand and everyone was present. Carrie conducted the eulogy and fought to keep her composure. The rules Andy had made for the community were cut into the monument and his rules became law as time passed. The law forbidding the use of the red beams until other humans were encountered was cut next to the ground where all could see. His legend grew as humans told and retold the stories of the man who rode the dinosaurs and taught humans to love each other.
Anna spent every day at his grave and was eventually buried beside him and Carrie. It was appropriate that the ones that brought the two different species together should be buried together. Three hundred years later, humans were using metals and making electrical generators from drawings cut into the stone monument.
An image was cut into the top of the monument that no one understood. A large dome with a pile of something beside it was clearly visible; under it was the word, ’Friend’. When asked at his funeral, Carrie didn’t know why Andy wanted that drawing to survive him. It was going to be a very long time before anyone would find out.

Mike’s War
Book two of Jessie’s Starship
“Adams, I need you and Jeanette to come to my ship.”
“Where are you?”
“I’m in orbit above the Central Governing Planet.”
“What’s going on?”
“I’ll tell you when you arrive. You need to hurry.”
“We’re on our way.”
Adams looked up and said, “Tuffy, I need you to take us to…”
“I know; the Government Planet.”
Jeanette came through the back portal, “What’s going on?”
“I don’t know. Mike sounds like he’s upset about something. He wants us to join him at the Government Planet.”
“I didn’t think we were allowed to go there.”
“We’re not. Matter of fact, none of the Human Q Ships are allowed there. Something must have happened.” A moment later the Q Ship appeared above a beautiful green and blue planet; Jeanette said, “There’s another Q Ship in orbit.”
The computer said over the loud speaker, “Actually, there are three ships in orbit. The third is hidden behind the other two.”
“Whose ships are they, Tuffy?”
“One is Peter; I don’t recognize the other one.”
“Dock us with Mike’s ship.” Adams watched the ship instantly appear next to his and he looked at Jeanette, “Something’s happened.”
“Don’t get worried; we’ll find out in a few moments.” Adams nodded and heard the landing bay door make contact with Mike’s Q Ship. He followed Jeanette to the landing bay and waited at the port for the connection to complete. The light on the port turned orange and the portal slid up into the ship’s hull. They saw Jesse waiting for them in the other landing bay.
“Jesse, it’s been a long time.”
“Too long, Adams. Come with me to the bridge.”
“What’s going on?”
“Mike will explain; I’d rather you wait and hear it from him.”
Adams looked at Jeanette and she smiled, “Ok, you can start worrying now.”
They followed Jesse to the bridge and saw Mike, Tilly, Elle, and Hetzel sitting together in the center of the bridge. They now knew who the third Q Ship belonged to. Mike said, “Take a seat; we have an issue to discuss.”
Adams and Jeanette skipped saying hello to everyone and went to two empty chairs. Jesse went and sat down beside Elle. “What’s going on Mike?”
“Hetzel has made a request and I want you to hear it.”
Adams looked at Hetzel and he looked extremely uncomfortable. He looked at Mike, “You should tell him. I think you can explain it better than me.”
Mike shook his head and looked at Adams, “The Central Government has requested that Earth be armed.”
Adams stared at Mike and then looked at Jeanette.
She was just as shocked as he was. He looked at Mike again, “What do you mean by armed?”
“He wants Earth to rebuild its military forces.”
Adams stared at Mike and then looked at Hetzel, “Are you serious?”
“I’m embarrassed more than you know for asking; but yes, we want you to rearm your planet and train your populations on how to wage war.”
“Are you out of your mind? You forced us to disarm or be destroyed. You gave us no other options and most of my planet hates you for being so heavy handed with us.”
“It seemed like the right thing to do at the time.”
“And now it isn’t. Do you have any idea what your actions have caused!”
Mike shook his head, “Let it go, Adams.”
Hetzel said, “No, let him say what he has to say.”
Adams’ anger was clear, “You removed every weapon on the planet. You knew my species has a violent side and just removing weapons didn’t stop the crazies from attacking innocent people. They use knives, hatchets and any other dangerous object they can get their hands on.”
Hetzel lifted his hands, “The ones that attack others are removed.”
“But what about the ones they attack? You removed anything their victims could use to defend themselves. Sure, the attackers were hunted down and killed, but that was after their victims were often murdered or maimed. The attacks have not gone down over time but have risen in number. You don’t remove a million years of violent behavior just by removing weapons. What you did was to place billions in danger. Now you want to rearm Earth; for God’s sake why; so you can destroy the planet?”
“No, we’re prepared to promise that your planet will not be harmed if you agree to our request.”
“What if we don’t?”
“Then all of our worlds, including Earth, will be destroyed.”
Adams looked at Mike and saw him nod. He looked back at Hetzel and saw he was serious. Jesse said, “I don’t know if we can do it even if we wanted.”
Hetzel looked at Jesse, “You have to try. Our existence depends on it.”
