To The Woman He Loves 2 Page 6

by Theresa Hodge

“Well.” Misty slowly approached us. She made eye contact with me briefly as she addressed Ronan. “I didn’t know if you would be able to find the lovely pair of shoes I left in the locker room, and I seem to have lost and earring somewhere...” Misty examined the floor near Ronan’s desk as if she was looking for something small.

“What makes you think you lost it in here?” I asked, one hundred percent sure I didn’t want to know the answer to my question.

“Oh, you know,” she smirked at me, “I may have lost it in here when Ronan splayed me across his desk and took me like a cheap hooker the other day,” she said pointing at the very spot my hand was resting.

I yanked my hand away from the desk and peered at Ronan. He grabbed me around the waist and hugged me close to him. “Ruby, darling, don’t listen to her.”

“Ronan, I can’t fucking believe you!” I said, pushing him away from me with all the energy I could muster. His strong hold held me tight, so I struggled to get away from him. “Let me go, Ronan,” I said in a voice that brooked no room for argument.

“I’m going to let you go, but don’t leave me, Ruby. I will not lose you again. Not after what we just shared,” Ronan said in a low tone against my ear. He released my waist and clasped my hand into his.

“What exactly did you share with her, Ronan? Was it the same thing we shared right here on this desk after Ruby found out about us and ran away from home?” Misty asked.

My head started spinning from the reality of Misty’s confessions. I could feel my body getting clammy and sweaty. The temperature in the room had to have been set on hell. I was hot all over. My hand raised to my head to wipe away the sweat away from my forehead.

“You’re just trying to start trouble for me and my wife, but I can tell you this, if Ruby leaves me again behind this stunt, I will spend my days and nights making sure that your life is a living hell. You will pay for this!” Ronan said, looking at Misty with an icy glare. “Now get the fuck out!”

I yanked my hand away from Ronan’s and started toward the door.

“Ruby wait!” he said, catching up to me and holding me around my waist once again to prevent me from leaving. “Misty, I’m going to tell you this one more damn time. Get out of my office and off this property before I call the police and report you as a trespasser,” he warned.

“Are you sure you don’t need me to clean my sweet nectar, as you called it, off your desk before I go?” Misty asked, throwing daggers in Ronan’s direction, with her spiteful look. “It seems I was good enough for you to bend me over and take me raw just days ago. You were so insatiable that day, Ronan.”

  Sweet nectar. Raw…

  Misty was drawing blood.

Ronan yelled, “Shut your dumb mouth—”

I raised my hand in front of his face. “No, let her talk. I asked you these things earlier and you lied about your ‘sweet Misty,’” I said her name as if it tasted nasty on my tongue. “At least someone is being honest now. Go ahead, Misty.”

“After he bent me over the desk, he splayed me onto my back and dived back in again as if he couldn’t get enough. But now that you’re back he’s decided to toss me aside like yesterday’s piece of ass,” Misty said to me. “No, I won’t let you go that easily,” she added, looking in Ronan’s direction.

Disgust was too nice of a word for what I felt toward Ronan and his mistress. I could feel bile rising to my throat as tears rushed into my eyes.

I believed him! I thought as my mind roared.

“Misty, that happened well over a week ago, before Ruby came home and made up with me. You are causing a scene because you’re insanely jealous and hurt because I love my wife,” said Ronan as he picked up the phone and dialed a sequence of numbers. “Yes, please send security to my office,” he said.

“To hell with you, Ronan,” Misty said before walking toward the door.

“Same to you, and I will personally see to it that you feel the burn of hell before I do. You will never get a job anywhere in Miami, ever again! You’re done, you trifling bitch,” Ronan said, slipping his arm around my waist and holding onto me tighter than he had before.

“Oh, so now I’m a bitch?” Misty said, laughing, “Now, what does that make you, Mr. Ronan can’t keep it in your pants, Michaels?”

“That makes him a liar and a cheater,” I answered Misty’s question with an accusing gleam in my eyes towards Ronan. “What the hell are you holding on to me for, Ronan?” I painfully found my voice to say. “You have a perfectly fine pin cushion right over there. Why don’t you just let me go?” I squirmed inside of his strong arms that held me in a vice grip as I tried to get away from him. My words caused Misty’s feet to stop moving. She glared at me.

“Ruby, I wanted to spare you the details of my affair,” Ronan said in a low voice with his lips against my ear. “The only reason I was with her after you left was because I was weak, and missing you.”

“Well, that’s nice to know. Whenever you miss me, you should just run off and fuck another woman,” I said. “And raw?” I cringed on the inside as I thought about the supposed love we’d just made after he entered her raw a mere week ago.

Ronan released me from the prison of his embrace and turned me to face him. He held onto my cheeks to keep my eyes from wavering from his. “Ruby, everything we did today meant the world to me. Don’t let her come in here and cheapen anything we have shared. That’s all she’s trying to do!”

“That is such a crock of bullshit, Ronan,” I said, pulling completely away from him knowing Misty couldn’t tear us down even if she tried. We were doing a good enough job tearing our own marriage down. In this instance, it was Ronan.

“Yeah, I’m not trying to cheapen your love of your wife Ronan…or be his pin cushion Ruby! Ronan, you did that yourself when you confessed your love for me time and time again. Was I cheapening your love for Ruby when you went up in me raw without a condom? Huh?” Misty had no holds barred as she kept driving her points home.

“I never told you that I loved you. That is simply not true,” Ronan argued.

“What about when you shouted my name and told me how much you loved being with me?” Misty said, closing her eyes as if she was reliving their shared moments all over again. “How about when you ate me out? You said you couldn’t get enough of my flavor. Your word’s Ronan Michaels, not mine. Was that me cheapening your marriage or you?”

“Shut the fuck up! You’re acting like a silly little girl!” Ronan shouted angrily, before lunging in Misty’s direction.

“Little girl. Oh, now I’m a little girl,” Misty said on a laugh. “Keep your insults coming. It’s actually funny to see you go there,” she said.

“Why don’t you just leave, before this becomes more of a spectacle than it already is? I will not have you disrespecting my wife!” Ronan hollered at the top of his lungs.

Misty did not budge from where she was standing.

Security walked in along with our friend, Carl Stevens.

“Is everything alright in here. We can hear you guys in the hallway,” Carl asked.

“Oh, everything is fine,” Misty said. “Just airing the truth. That is all.”

Carl sought out Ronan for an answer and Ronan said, “We’ll be okay man, thanks. I do need security to escort Ms. Crewe out of the building and not to allow her back in.”

Carl stepped back outside the door.

Ronan looked one hundred percent embarrassed over this scene playing out in his office. His embarrassment could in no way top my hurt.

“Miss, I’m going to have to ask you to come with me,” the security guard said, placing a hand on Misty’s arm.

Misty yanked her arm away and said, “I’m not leaving until you explain to me why you used me and then dismissed me like a whore you found on the street. I’m no one’s whore…not even yours, Mr. Big Shot Ronan Michaels!”

“You walk in here throwing the details of your affair with my husband around, as if telling me that he had sex with
you on this desk or put the same tongue that I’ve enjoyed for years on you is supposed to be something extraordinary. You cause a scene in front of me, and you want my husband to stand here and give you answers?” I asked. “You really have life messed up.”

“If you had been honest with him, then you would have kept that extraordinary tongue action to yourself!” Misty spat. I could tell she was just grasping for anything she thought would cut deep. “I just felt you deserved to know the truth,” she added.

“Since we’re all telling the truth and doing what the fuck we feel like doing, I guess I should punch you in the face,” I said squaring up to her with tightly balled fists.

“Ma’am,” the security guard said, searching Ronan’s face for instructions on how to handle the situation. “I can’t allow you to hit her,” he said to me. “And, I need you to come with me peacefully out of the building,” he said to Misty.

“Go ahead, punch me! You get one free punch for the good dick and then I’m going to knock you out,” she said with a smirk as she stuck her face out for me to hit her.

And that was it. A switch went off in my head. The old Ruby of yesterday left my body and was replaced with hell’s fury that was embedded deep within my veins. In a snap, my body appeared to agree with her about deserving a punch. It wasn’t a punch but my hand came down and landed in a hard slap across her face. I wasn’t ashamed at how good it felt. I was finally awakened and it felt too good. The security guard let Misty’s arm go and came toward me.

“Ma’am, I’m going to have to ask you to leave as well,” he said.

  “She’s with me,” Ronan interjected.

“Yeah, she’s with that no-good cheater,” Misty said, rubbing her cheek. “That’s your free one Ruby because maybe I had that coming, but if you ever put your hands on me again, there is going to be a different outcome.”

The security guard once again seized Misty’s arm and began to walk her out of the door as she was saying, “Is this what you want to see? Your wife hitting me, while you stand there and do nothing? Do I really not mean anything to you, Ronan?”

“You know what, you two can have each other,” I said as I held the unquenchable fury building in my heart at bay. But it was much too late for that. Red fire fury burned through my entire being. “You talk about me reducing you as a man, but standing here fighting with your mistress has reduced me to less than the lady I am. Think about that.”

“Ruby, Misty has no reason to be here. It’s over between us,” Ronan said attempting, once again, to stop me from leaving. “I’m sorry that this is happening.”

“I’m the one that is sorry,” said Misty, appearing to mean it. She took a long and hard look at Ronan and added, “I guess what I’m fighting for doesn’t even exist.”

“Don’t you dare apologize to me, after barging in here talking shit,” I said. “What makes you think you can just go around wrecking people’s lives with that stupid smile on your face? What gives you the right?”

“I don’t have one,” she digressed as studied the stern look on Ronan’s face.

“Come on, ma’am.” The security guard finally walked her out the office door and out of my sight.

  “Baby,” Ronan ventured.

I raised my hand and brought it against his cheek in retaliation against his blatant betrayal. I found consolation in seeing the imprint of my hand stamped across his cheek as it left an angry red mark. Between Ronan and his lies and Misty and her cruel admissions, I had certainly heard enough for one day.

“Ronan, I asked you if you had sex with Misty without a condom and you lied outright. What if she’s pregnant? What if you…I…we contracted something from her? And I can’t believe you had your face buried all between that woman’s legs…You told her how good she tasted on—”

I couldn’t complete my thought as my throat begin to swell at the thought of his tongue being in my mouth after having ate Misty out. I felt like my tongue was growing thick and my throat was closing. Misty’s admission had sucked the wind out of my lungs. It took all the strength within me not to buckle to my knees.

Ronan walked over and sat down on his office sofa and ran his hands through his hair. His silver eyes pled with me for understanding, but there was none. His act of betrayal settled within my spirit. I could feel every blow he'd dealt down to my bones.

I made the first move by keeping my illness from him. however, he hit back...hard. It was one thing to think he was having an affair, but to stand there and listen to that woman talk about the many pleasurable ways Ronan took her, and how he took her with no protection, shook every notion of his loyalty to me from my soul. We had nothing sacred left. The fire and love that once burnt between us had left nothing but burning black ashes. These ashes would be tattooed on my heart forever.

  Chapter 8

  Ruby

The sound of my phone repeatedly singing our matrimonial love ballad did little to jar me from the zombie-like trance I was in. I raced down the stairs and to the entrance of Turner Enterprises. The exact words Misty said escaped me as I walk-ran toward the exit. What my mind reliving was:

He took me right on that desk. He took me raw because he loves the feel of my bare body. I made him feel good enough to step out on you again and again. He loves everything about me. He loves me...and he doesn’t want you. He never did. I’m the beautiful rose that blossoms the way he likes, not you. He wants to be my knight in shining armor, not yours. I am the mist that waters the most precious flowers, his sweet Misty.

I shook my head in attempt to shake those thoughts from my mind. I stumbled out onto the street without thinking about or looking where I was going. Midday traffic on the busy intersection didn't even register in my mind, until I heard a man yelling, "Hey lady! You should really watch where you’re going!"

Soon after, the same man unfolded from his car. He was tall and medium built with cocoa colored skin, and he had an extremely worried look in his eyes as he approached me. His SUV was parked in the middle of the busy intersection as he ran over to me.

Looking around at all the cars that were stopped, I noticed everyone who stopped, even the passersby, were watching me. Had I been so upset that I ran out of the building and into traffic?

“Lady, I was within inches of hitting you! Are you okay? Why are you running into the road like that? Is someone chasing you?” the man asked a variety of questions, while looking around for a possible assailant.

"No sir. I…I’m so sorry I ran out in the road, sir," I said as I turned away from him frazzled. I sped walked in the direction of my car, which was toward the parking deck.

"Ma'am," the man called after me. Cars started honking their horns demanding he move his SUV out of the street. He finally gave up calling after me and got back inside of his car.

Whew! I thought as my senses returned to me. When I reached the row where I had parked my car, my lower stomach was in so much pain. I had overcome a lot in the past months. It would’ve been a shame to overcome ovarian cancer and a cheating husband, only to be struck dead after running out in front of a car after slapping my husband's mistress and then slapping my husband, himself.

The reality of what happened this morning settled in. I had a good mind to do more damage than passing out slaps.

No Ruby, you’re stronger than that…You have to be, I silently reminded myself. I just needed to go somewhere to put things into perspective.

I breathed a sigh of relief, when I reached my car. That relief was short lived, when Ronan stepped off the elevator and headed toward my car running full speed. I started searching my purse for my keys to unlock the door before he got there, but he was too fast.

"I was about to come looking for you, Ruby. Where did you go?" he asked. I reached for the door handle to get into the car, but he took my hand and pulled me to him. "Baby, please hear me out."

"Don’t…don’t you talk to me, Ronan."

"You are the single most important person in my life, Ruby," he said, raising my
hand to his mouth and kissing it repeatedly.

"Ronan, I shouldn’t have even come here today. I mean, I knew about your affair. I just didn’t know how deep things were between you and Misty. I must admit hearing it from the horse's mouth is more than I can handle right now," I said, as the syllables of my husband’s mistress name burned my ears. “I’m glad to hear the truth though. It’s better than the phony poetic shit you tried to feed me.”

“The only truth you heard was the sexual acts, and even that was shallower than she portrayed it. There is nothing deep about the way I feel about her. It was all lust and temptation based on me missing and misjudging you. What I know is deep is the thought of losing you forever. That thought keeps me up at night, starves me, and drives me to drinking. You are the only woman I have ever loved this way. Please…I beg of you, don’t take away the second chance you gave to me earlier."

"Ronan, there is no way after hearing that woman talk about your affair the way she did that I am going to come back home."

"Ruby," Ronan said, pulling me close to him. “Don’t leave me again. I can’t stand another night alone.”

I couldn't help but to suck in his scent in one big gulp as I took a deep breath against his chest. Lord, he was my husband, after all. I thought he would always be there for me and only me. What we had was so special and magical. I never thought we would be here. In this space. Inhaling and exhaling secrets and unfaithfulness.

"Ronan, I will call you later," I said as I pulled my hand away and attempted to get in the car again.

"I can’t let you leave me, Ruby!" he said, grabbing my arm to pull me back to him. “Promise me that you will be at home when I get there. I would surely stop existing, if you completely disappear again.”

"Lady, are you okay?" the same man who almost hit me earlier pulled up beside us and asked in a thick southern drawl that I didn’t hear before.
