She laughed. “No, you don’t have to get down on one knee. And yes, I’ll marry you. I can’t think of anything I’d like more.”
His grin widened until it looked like it might split his face.
“Does this mean we get to celebrate?” she asked, hoping that maybe this would be the night he would carry her off to his bedroom and have his wicked way with her.
He swept a heated gaze over her. “What did you have in mind?”
“You. Me. Naked.”
“Yeah, I think it’s time we took the next step. I even made a stop at the store last week to make sure I was prepared when the time came.”
She pushed her plate away and eyed his empty one. “There’s cake, if you want dessert.”
“Darlin’, the only dessert I’m wantin’ right now is you. How fast you can get out of those sexy as hell shorts?”
She stood, her chair scraping the floor as it slid back. “Faster than you get out of those jeans.”
Knox wiped his mouth and pushed his chair back. “I’ll give you a head start, but once I catch you, you’re mine.”
With a squeal, she took off, taking the stairs two at a time. Unfortunately, she didn’t know which bedroom was his and it cost her dearly. He charged up the stairs and tossed her over his shoulder, carrying her to the bedroom at the far end of the hall. Knox dropped her onto the bed with a bounce and she watched hungrily as he pulled his shirt over his head and reached for the button on his jeans.
“Darlin’, you’re getting a little behind. Strip.”
Unfastening her shorts, she wiggled out of them, taking her panties with them. Next, she pulled her tank over her head, thankful it had a built-in bra so she had one less item to remove. She’d already kicked off her shoes earlier, so she was naked and eagerly waiting for him. When he finished getting undressed, she let her gaze sweep over him. The man was perfection, in her eyes. Sun-bronzed from the waist up, she smiled at his farmer’s tan. It didn’t make him any less sexy, though.
“Come here, handsome,” she said with a crook of her finger.
He moved closer to the bed, grabbing her legs and pulling her to the edge. His hands skated over her body, exploring every dip and curve, paying special attention to her breasts. Dixie thrust them upward, loving the feel of his callused fingers against her soft skin. She looked down, admiring the difference between them, his light to her dark. Her mother had been a very dark-skinned woman, so she was a few shades darker than her brothers, her African heritage shining through.
“So beautiful,” he murmured. “And so damn soft.”
“I’m burning for you, Knox. I feel like I’m going to go up in flames at any moment.”
He grinned and looked down at his erection. “You see what you do to me? I’m dying to get inside of you. But first…” He knelt at the edge of the bed, parting her thighs. His finger caressed her smooth skin. “You wax?”
“Yes. Do you like it?”
“Very much.” He leaned forward and his tongue lapped at her.
The wet heat of his mouth fastened on her dewy lips and he sucked gently. Her nipples tightened in response, her body aching for him. His tongue slid inside of her before flicking over her clit. With a gasp, she grabbed the bedspread, clutching it in her hands. Her hips arched toward him, wanting more.
His lips devoured her, his teeth gently grazing her sensitive skin. He teased and tormented her until she thought she couldn’t take anymore. Dixie was on the edge, her body tight and tingling. Knox sucked her clit into his mouth and lashed it with his tongue. It was just enough to push her over, her climax spiraling through her.
“God, you’re beautiful when you come,” he said, kissing his way up her body.
She felt his cock brush against her pussy and she placed a hand on his chest.
“Condom,” she reminded him.
“Damn. You have me so worked up I nearly forgot.”
He moved away long enough to grab the box on the bedside table, pull a condom off, then rip it open and roll it on. As he settled over her once more, she wrapped her legs around his waist, opening herself to him. Knox teased her with his cock before slowly sinking into her. He stretched her, filling her and making her feel complete for the first time in her life. Her heart filled with love and joy, and she pulled his head down for a kiss.
Knox set up a slow rhythm that had her clutching his shoulders and begging him for more.
“Harder, Knox. Please. I need more.”
“Patience.” He smiled. “We have all night. Or until your brothers come to drag you out of here.”
She laughed. “Don’t even say such a thing, because you know it’s very likely to happen that way. Let’s just hope they wait a while.”
Knox picked up the pace, their bodies slapping together. A fine sheen of sweat coated their skin as he took her to dizzying heights. He plunged into her harder, her pussy gripping him eagerly with every thrust.
“I can’t hold on, Dixie. Come for me, darlin’.”
He braced his weight on one arm and reached between their bodies to play with her clit. It was all the stimulation she needed to send her flying. As her pussy pulsed around him, he came with a shout, burying himself inside of her.
Knox kissed her hungrily, his mouth demanding. When he pulled away, she saw the love and desire shining in his beautiful blue eyes. She cupped his cheek and kissed him once more.
“I love you so very much,” she said.
“I love you, too, darlin’.”
He pulled out of her and disposed of the condom before settling at her side. Knox pulled her into his arms and kissed the top of her head.
“So, when do you want to move in?” he asked.
“Move in?”
“Only makes sense. We’ll be getting’ married. Might as well see if we can stand livin’ together.” He smiled. “Not that I’m worried.”
She tickled his ribs. “You just want me in your bed every night.”
“There is that.”
“You know we’re going to have a fight on our hands. My brothers will not be pleased.”
“It’s time for your brothers to realize you’re a grown woman and can do what you want. Besides, it’s not like I’m just askin’ you to shack up with me. I did ask you to marry me. And as I recall, you accepted. That makes us officially engaged, even if I don’t have a ring yet.” His lips pursed. “Unless…”
“Unless what?”
“Well, before my parents died, my mother gave me my grandmother’s wedding set. It had been passed down to her, but my dad had already purchased a custom made set for Mom. She said she was holdin’ on to it until I decided I was ready to get married.”
Dixie traced a heart on his chest. “Knox, I would be honored to wear your grandmother’s ring.”
He kissed her again. “Don’t go nowhere.”
He got up and moved across the room to the dresser. Opening a small wooden box on top, he pulled out an engagement ring with a small diamond in the center. It wasn’t anything fancy, but Dixie didn’t need fancy. The fact that the ring had meaning for him, that it had belonged to his grandmother, made it more special than any ring he could have purchased in a store.
He returned to the bed, lay down beside her once more, and slid the ring onto her finger. It was a perfect fit.
“It’s beautiful, Knox. Truly.”
He curled his finger under her chin, lifting her face for another kiss. As his lips tasted and nibbled, Dixie knew that she’d finally found what she’d been looking for her whole life. Love and acceptance. Knox would never stand in her way if she wanted something. If anything, he would fight beside her.
“Want to celebrate one more time before we go tell your brothers the good news?” he asked.
She smiled. “I’d love to celebrate with you again. And again. And again.”
“I think we’d better save those agains for when we have more time together. But never doubt that I would love nothing more than to spend the rest of the night worshiping your
body and showing you just how much I love you.”
And that’s precisely what he did. Until her brothers came knocking.
