“That’s it?” Mike asked. “That’s the most fucking awful thing I’ve ever heard.”
Trevor pushed himself back from the monitor and sighed. “A new ‘Epic of Gilgamesh,’ this is definitely not.”
“Fuck no. That was depressing as all hell. It’s not like there was even a dragon or cool shit like that. Just a fucked-up warrior obsessed with some god. Oh, and I’m still pretty certain it’s actually pronounced Tor...”
“I spent days working on this giant pile of crap and that’s what you’re hung up on?”
Mike nodded. “Sorry, you’re right. Who cares how any of it is pronounced? I mean, it’s a god-awful story about a god-awful person.”
“More like a Twareg-awful person.”
Mike opened a desk drawer and pulled out a bottle of bourbon and two glasses. “Drink?”
“After that? Shit yeah.”
The archeologist poured himself and his colleague a shot, then thought about it for a second and made it a double.
“You thinking what I’m thinking?” Trevor asked looking down at the brown liquid.
“We tell the director the scrolls were too degraded to translate, then we shove this shit back in the archives and forget we ever saw it?”
“You got it. It’ll definitely be better for our careers than introducing the world to Silas Kane.”
“Hell yeah. Fuck Twareg!”
“Right in his ass.”
They clinked glasses and took the first of what would be several long drinks.
