“Baros,” I greet him with disdain dripping from my voice.

“You honestly think giving my daughter your car is going to keep her safe? You think it is going to protect her from the heat of- say, another explosion?”

  “You are a sick bastard!”

Baros chuckles sardonically, clearly not phased by my insult. “I told that whore the deal. She fucked you and it ended her protection.”

He hangs up and the dial tone is loud in my ear as it rings. I can’t believe how callous the man is.

The Greek Mafia isn’t like the other mafias in the world. We are not as well known. If history books from America can give us a definition or an example about us, I would say we are just like the wild west in America. We have our own rules that we govern ourselves with, but not a lot of people know about us.

With all of that being said, our laws are made by us and we enforce them on our own.

Alki is right. If I would have known who Vera was, would I have fucked her? No. I wouldn’t have wanted to strike like that. I’m giving him a direct line to shoot and try to control my family by doing this. You never fuck another don’s wife, side piece, or daughter.

I don’t deny what I did. I just hope I can save Vera.

After everything has been said and done, would I be able to keep the woman who has made her way into my heart? Would I be able to keep her safe knowing her father is not going to stop until one of us dead?

If I was Baros, I wouldn’t stop until I have won or dead. I didn’t want a woman before because I didn’t want the responsibility of trying to keep one safe. I didn’t want to know if I could run my family and take care of the woman at the same time.

It looks like I haven’t been the choice. I’m not going to kick Vera to the side. I’m not going to let her go without a fight. The woman is definitely mine.

Baros can choke on his dick.

With all of the men piling into the room, I’m seething and foaming at the mouth. I can’t let the men know how worked up I am by Vera. I can’t seem weak at all.

“You sure about this?” Milo, my right-hand man who was at our warehouse when it got broke into by Baros, asks.

“I’m sure. Go ahead and strike. Get my shipment out and I’m going to get the girl on the phone and put her in a secure placement.”

Everyone leaves my office and they are practically growling at me. I know they didn’t want to get into this fight so soon. Unfortunately, the fight was sped up by my fucking Vera. Because of that, we have to attack next and hard.

Vera’s phone rings and rings. It keeps ringing.

  And it keeps ringing.

I hang up and try it again. It rings again. This time it rings for over a minute.

I’m worried something happened to Vera because of me and I call in for a special favor. I call the police officer that’s in our pocket to track down the SUV. I have a tracker in the SUV and I’m hitting refresh over and over again until the screen has refreshed.

I would never buy a vehicle and not put a tracker on it. There is no way in hell I would do that. Plus, I put a couple more on the SUV before bringing it here.

I’m happy Milo brought the SUV to me when he got here.

The officer, Gregio, answers the phone quickly for me. “Octavious, what can I help you with today?” He asks.

I’m so pissed off I can’t help but shake from the anger.

“I need you to block out all circuits to and from my ski lodge. Something happened and I can’t have my lodge swarmed with officers.”

Gregio tuts his tongue. “Look, I don’t know what you got yourself into, but I don’t want anything to do with it.”

It is my turn to chuckle. “You got yourself into it when you needed thirty thousand euros to save your house from foreclosure. I saved you and I’m cashing in my chip.”

  “Fine. What do you need?”

“Send an ambulance to my new ski lodge just in case. I have a bad feeling.”

I hung up before he can say anything and call Vera again. The phone rings, then rings. And rings again.

  Chapter Twenty

  Vera

The hair on the back of my neck is standing straight up. I know they are watching me as I leave the ski lodge. I feel their eyes watching my every move.

I walk quickly to my brand new Mercedes SUV that Octavious gave me and I play with the keys in my hand. I’m fingering the driver’s key fob in between my pointer and middle finger to use as a weapon when the inevitable begins.

I know my time is up but I’m not giving up without a fight.

People all around me are having the best time of their lives at the ski lodge. Octavious and his men have done an amazing job of turning the ski lodge into one of the most prestigious vacation spots in northern Greece. I love it here.

I just hope I’m not going to die here.

My new SUV is sitting in the middle of a group of cars surrounding it giving me the protection I need. At least that is wishful thinking. All of these cars surrounding my beautiful new car only means there could be men hiding under the cars. There could be people waiting to pounce on me.

I grew up living in a dangerous world. I grew up knowing that at any moment, I could be taken and held for ransom. I knew that at any moment, I could be killed just because someone was mad at my father. I also knew the risks of leaving my home without a bodyguard. I knew that I could be a casualty of a war between two families. With all of those evil thoughts roaming through my mind, I still decided to fall for Octavious.

Actually, I couldn’t even remember falling for Octavious. The man has captivated my whole heart and mind. The enigmatic man has captured me. I couldn’t stop myself from falling in love with him.

This is what led me to Mount Olympus on the day that could possibly be my very last day on earth.

My fingers squeeze the keys to quickly unlock the car. My salvation and my safety are all in the car. I just have to get in the car and leave.

I quickly open the door and jump into the car. The seat is a lot higher than the Mini Cooper I had before this car. The jump inside is quick and effortless. In seconds, I have started the car and am pulling out of the parking spot.

I look behind me to see the ski lodge and then I see the shadowed figure of the devil himself.

My father sent him to me? My father sent him after me?

The “Devil” is one of the most lethal men in the underworld. He’s the one that comes to get shit done and the reason why many don’t live long in this life.

The Devil is also someone I grew up with. Baron was like the brother to me I never had and now he’s been sent here to kill me. I couldn’t believe it.

I know what this means. I know that I need to get to safety before it is too late.

I’m speeding out of the driveway and onto the main road. There is a semi-truck blocking the main road causing me to panic.

I go to slam on the breaks but they don’t work. “Shit!” I cry. I do my best to veer off the side of the road and into the mounds of snow.

My brand new car is smashing into the semi before I can do anything to stop it.

  Epilogue

  Milo

When I got the call from Gregio to get back to the ski lodge, I was prepared for the worst. Why would a police officer be calling me to come back to the lodge?

I’m driving as quickly as I can back to the lodge after leaving everyone at the Baros location. I’m prepared for the worst.

There are a bunch of emergency lights lighting up the road as I approach the white SUV I dropped off before leaving to go to Baros’ house. My gut churns in my stomach.

  Something happened to Vera!

I speed through the cars and see Octavious yelling at an ambulance driver. “I want to see my woman! Let me through.”

The ambulance driver, George, is glowering at me. I have known George my whole life since we grew up in the same foster home. He’s the man I would have called if I knew something bad was happening. I’m glad he’s here.<
br />
George has stated he doesn’t have any interest in joining the family, and I’m okay with it.

“Milo, you need to get your boy!”

Octavious turns his eyes to me. “She’s dead! I know she’s dead.”

I shake my head and run over to him. “George, is Vera alive?”

  George’s eyes glare at me.

  Fuck.
