It’s going to be rough raising two babies at the same time, I think. But we love them, and we love each other more every day, so I know we can get through anything.
Jeremy rolls over, opens the top drawer of his nightstand, and takes something out. He sets a small black box down on the bed between us and pushes it toward me.
“I bought you something to remind you every day how proud I am to be your husband, and the father of our babies.”
I sit up on the bed and open the box. Inside is a beautiful Claddagh ring. It’s unlike any ring I’ve ever seen. The hands are holding a heart-shaped topaz, which represents the month in which our babies were born. The tiny crown holds a diamond, and the band of the ring has three more diamonds on either side of the hands.
“Jeremy, it’s gorgeous. Thank you so much. I love you,” I say before he takes the ring from me and slides it onto my finger. It fits perfectly.
“I love you too, Red. Now, we should probably get a nap before those two wake up. I have a feeling we won’t be getting much sleep for the next year.”
We wrap our arms around each other, kiss, and close our eyes. In our bed, in our home, with two tiny babies sound asleep in the bedroom next to ours.
If there’s one thing we’ve both realized, it’s that life is so much better when you’re running toward it, not running away from it . . .

She grew up in a ‘car family’ so her life has been spent around old hot rods. She and her husband, Jake, even have a few of their own. In her spare time, Jen loves to travel wherever she can. She finally lived her dream of traveling to New Zealand to see her favorite rugby team, the All Blacks, play. Jen loves to do photography as a hobby and continues to write.
