Chapter 1
It’s a hot sultry summer day in New Orleans, one could
feel the humidity in the air. You could smell the rain as it
approached from the coast.
Professor Devine finishes his day at the university, looking forward to getting home to his little family.
Walking out of his class room he heads down stairs,
where he heads out the front entrance of the university to the
staff parking lot.
He climbs into his Jeep going over the events of the day, he checks to make sure he hasn’t forgotten anything.
Starting his engine he pulls out of the parking lot onto the main road.
Richard reaches down and turns on his CD player, Merle Haggard is singing an old favorite. Richard soon finds himself singing along as he heads down the road towards home.
As he drives along his cell phone rings, answering he says, “Speak to me baby.”
Cheri on the other end says, “Hi sweetheart!”
“Hi babe.” Richard says. “What do you need sweetheart?”
“Well,” Cheri says, “your daughter wants her daddy to
come home, but she’s also got a request.”
“What’s my little princess need?” Richard asks.
She wants to know if her daddy can stop by the store and pick her up a box of Count Chocula cereal, as she says it’s her very best favorite cereal.” Cheri says laughing.
Richard says, “Let me see if I’ve got this right. My
princess wants her daddy to bring her home some Count Chocula cereal, because it’s her very best favorite cereal?”
Cheri giggles saying, “That’s the way I understand it.”
“Well you tell my little princess that her wish is my
command. See you soon.” Richard says, as he hangs up the
phone. He soon pulls into the market place and parks his Jeep,
shutting off the engine he climbs out and heads into the market.
Searching the cereal aisles it isn’t long before he locates the cereal his daughter Megan wanted and heads to the check out, picking up some packages of baby back ribs, and a bottle of barbecue sauce, placing them in his shopping cart on the way.
He arrives at the check out line waits for the cashier to scan the items, swiping his debit card he grabs his bags and
receipt and heads out the door to his Jeep.
Placing the items in the back Richard slides into the driver’s seat starting his engine, when up along side him
Boo’s pickup truck pulls in.
Boo yells out the window, “What’s for supper old buddy?”
Smiling Richard says, “Count Chocula cereal, coming over for supper are you?”
Boo making a face says, “No thanks I think I’ll pass.”
Richard says, “Well you could bring Isabella over and
have a beer with us while I cook up some baby back ribs.”
Boo says, “Now you’re talking! What time should we
come over?”
Richard says, “Oh give it about and hour and a half, I
should have a good start on the ribs by then.”
“Sounds good,” Boo says, “we’ll be there.”
Richard says, “I’ll call Pierre up see if he’d like some ribs too.”
Boo says, “Yea maybe he’ll bring along some of his white lightning.”
Richard says, “I think a beer will be just fine, I’d like to
keep my eye sight.”
Boo smiles and says, “Yea you’re probably right, you could use Pierre’s moonshine for paint stripper.”
Richard laughs and says, “I have, it works great.”
Boo laughs and says, “You’re so full of it shit Richard.
Isabella and I will be by later, we’ll see you then!”
“Ok.” Richard says smiling, as Boo backs his pickup truck up and pulls out of the market parking lot and heads down the road.
Richard pulls out onto the road turning back on his Merle Haggard CD as he to heads for home.
Standing near by watching as Richard pulls away is
Lucifer, with an evil grin on his face. Lucifer says, “Well there goes my old friend Richard. I’ll have to drop by and visit one of these days and meet his new little family.” Lucifer turns and slowly walks away disappearing from sight.
Richard soon arrives home; pulling into his garage he shuts off his engine and goes inside. “Honey I’m home.” Richard says.
Megan comes running down the hall from her room.
“Daddy, daddy, I missed you.” Richard bends down
picking her up after setting the groceries down on the kitchen
countertop.
Cheri comes out of the laundry room and says, “Hi
sweetheart!”
“Well,” Richard says, “how have my favorite girls been
today?”
Megan says, “We’ve been having fun daddy, I’ve been
helping mommy with the laundry.”
Cheri looks at Richard and winks saying, “Yes daddy she’s been a real big help to mommy.”
Richard smiles and says, “I bet! Oh honey I almost forgot, Boo and Isabella will be coming by for supper tonight. You want to call your dad see if he’d like to come by for supper as well?”
Cheri says, “Oh he’ll like that, I’ll call him right now.”
Megan looks up and says, “Daddy did you get my very best favorite cereal?”
Richard laughs and says, “Daddy sure did princess.”
Putting her down he says, “Come on I’ll fix you a bowl.”
Cheri calls her dad Pierre and invites him over for supper, afterwards she starts preparing the sweet corn for supper, as Richard cooks the ribs on the grill.
Soon after Cheri and Richard have supper ready; and it isn’t long before Boo and Isabella arrive, entering they take a seat at the dining room table. Pierre arrives shortly after.
As they all sit enjoying the meal Pierre looks over at
Cheri and says, “Something’s different about you, I can’t quiet put my finger on it daughter.”
Cheri says, “Oh Papa you always did have a way of
knowing things.”
Boo asks, “Know what things?”
Isabella smiles and says, “Boo, Cheri’s expecting another baby.”
Boo says, “Well Richard, Cheri, congratulations! Do you know if it’s going to be a boy or girl yet?”
Cheri laughs and says, “Boo it’s a little to early to know
that, but it’s for sure we’re going to have another baby.”
Pierre says, “I’m going to be a granddaddy a second time!”
Afterwards
they finish eating and slowly make their way into the living room as Richard starts a fire in the fire place.
Relaxing having an after dinner drink, they set talking about different subjects, Isabella and Cheri sharing ideas on
their New Age shop; Isabella tells Cheri she’s been waiting on a new shipment of books.
Richard talks about the university, and how his class has been studying ancient civilizations. Steering clear of any
discussions involving cursed objects.
Pierre tells how his tourist business has been picking up, and that there is one lady who keeps coming back for additional tours.
Cheri speaks up and says, “Papa I think you have a secret admirer.” Pierre’s face turns red as they all bust out laughing at Pierre, his face now a bright red.
Isabella says, “Well I think its sweet Pierre, have you
asked her out for a date yet?”
“No,” Pierre says, “I’m kind of bashful when it comes to things like that. It’s been so long sense I’ve dated. Since Cheri’s mom passed away, I just haven’t thought about it much I haven’t met anyone, at least not until now.”
Cheri says, “Well Papa I think it is way over do. You need a lady friend in your life, that way I wouldn’t have to worry about you being so lonely.”
“I know my daughter,” Pierre says, “maybe I’ll pop the
question to her next time she comes for a tour.”
“Good!” Isabella says. “I bet she’ll jump at the chance to date a handsome man such as your self Pierre.” Isabella smiles and continues, “I think you’re a real babe magnet.”
Pierre’s face now turns a brilliant red as he smiles holding his head down embarrassed by Isabella’s statement. Everyone bust out laughing again pointing at Pierre.
With that Pierre quickly jumps and says, “Oh look at the time, I better be heading home, it’s getting late.”
Boo says, “Yea right Pierre, you know what they say, if
you can’t stand the heat get out of the kitchen.” Everyone breaks out in laughter again.
Isabella says, “We better get going too Boo, it is getting
late.” As they all get up to leave, they thank Cheri and Richard for the delicious meal.
As they all take turns giving little Megan hugs as they head out the door, across the street unnoticed stands Lucifer with and evil grin on his face.
Lucifer says, “Well I see my old friend Richard is quiet the connoisseur, as it turns out.” Smiling Lucifer turns and disappears into the night.
After everyone’s left Richard turns to Megan and
says, “Well princess it’s time for you to get to bed.”
Cheri picks Megan up and says, “Come on mommy will
give you a good warm bath and tuck you in, and then I’ll read you a bed time story to help put you to sleep.”
Richard says, “I’ll be in my den if you need me
sweetheart.”
Cheri says, “Ok babe!” As she heads up stairs with Megan in her arms.
Meanwhile, in Lucifer’s hideaway, he speaks to one of his lesser demons about Richard. Lucifer points to one of his lesser demons and says, “I have a job for you, I want you to take a human form, preferably one of a young female student. You’ll be enrolled into Richards’s class as a foreign exchange student from Ireland. I want you to get close to Professor Devine, find out as much as you can about him and his little family, then report back to me. Then I’ll give you further
instructions at that time.”
The demon speaks up, “Yes Dark Lord! I’ll get started
right away.”
Lucifer says, “Make it so.”
The next morning Richard sits in his class room while his students enter laying their assignments on his desk as they pass by. Richard says, “Thank you students. Well let’s start off
by opening your text books to page one hundred twenty three, chapter four.”
Hearing someone knocking on his classroom door, Richard looks up as the door opens. The Dean steps in with a female student and says, “Richard, I’d like to introduce to you and your class a new foreign exchange student, she’s just arrived from Ireland. Her name is Morgan Marie Hannigan.”
“Well,” Richard says, “Morgan you’ll fit right in, as we’ve had class discussions about your native country and many of the folklores and legends from the “Emerald Isle.” Richard says smiling at her. “Class lets give Morgan a big welcome.”
With that the class speaks up and says, “Hello Morgan.”
Morgan smiles and says, “Well top of the morning to all of you as well.”
Richard says, “Morgan we have a seat right over there next to Sheila, make yourself at home.”
“Thank you Professor.” Morgan says as she turns and
walks over to her assigned seat.
“Well,” the Dean says, “I’ll let you get back to your class Professor.” He turns and says, “Well Morgan once again, on behalf of the staff and students here at the university, it’s a
pleasure having you!” As he closes the door on his way out.
Richard says, “Sheila why don’t you show Morgan what chapter we’re on.”
Later that afternoon the class bell rings, as the students get up to leave, Richard says, “Remember tomorrow we’ll go over this chapter and have a small test, so be prepared.” He says smiling as they file out of the classroom some of them frowning on their way out.
Morgan stops at Richard’s desk and says, “It’s a pleasure to meet you Professor, I really enjoyed the class today.”
“Good,” Richard says, “I think you’ll really love
Parapsychology Morgan. As we study a little bit of everything
with regards to the paranormal. From paranormal activities, to
different religions; as well as the occult along with the different
cults as well! Not to mention UFO phenomenon. That seems to be one of my class’s favorites!”
Morgan says, “I think I’m really going to enjoy it. Well I guess I better go! I’ll see you tomorrow professor.”
Richard says, “Goodbye Morgan, once again welcome to my class.”
When Morgan leaves the university she turns and walks
around the building to a near by alleyway. Lucifer appears in a
cloud of grey putrid smoke.
“Well,” Lucifer says, “have you got settled into Mr.
Devine’s class?”
The demon transforms into his true persona and says, “Yes Dark Lord.”
“What have you found out about our Mr. Devine?
Something juicy I trust.” Lucifer says as a wicked grin comes
across his face. “Tell me what you’ve observed my most disgusting servant.”
“Well,” the demon says, “the papers to be graded are
always left on his desk, then taken home to graded that evening.Then while his students are at lunch Mr. Devine usually takes a short break as well.”
“Plenty of time Dark Lord, when do you want me to do it oh Dark One?”
Lucifer says, “I’ll let you know, for now just keep me
posted on his activities, where he spends his time, his closest
friends and so on.”
“Yes Dark Lord, I hear and obey.” The demon says.
“Now,” Lucifer says, “Change back into your disguise
before someone sees you.” Having said that, Lucifer disappears into a cloud of putrid smoke. The demon once more transforms back into the form of Morgan, and walks off soon disappearing out of sight.
Meanwhile, back at the docks, Pierre sees his lady friend walking down the dock towards his boat. Pierre climbs onto his boat quickly and heads into his quarters.
Checking himself in the mirror, he looks to make sure he doesn’t have any meat stuck between his teeth, then slicks what little hair he has back replacing his captains hat back on his head.
He soon hears his lady friend calling out to him from the dock. He e
merges from his captain’s quarters, looking down at the dock he spots his lady friend and says smiling, “Permission to come aboard granted.”
She then says smiling, “Aye, aye, Captain!” She comes on board and says, “I’m ready for another moonlight tour El Capitan.”
“Alright,” Pierre says, “then what are we waiting for!”
Pierre climbs up deck to the wheel and starts the twin motors.
It isn’t long before he and his lady friend are heading off towards the swamp. She hands Pierre a wad of bills, Pierre starts to take the money but then changes his mind.
She looks at him and asks, “What’s wrong Pierre?”
Pierre says, “Not a thing Marie, it’s just that I was kind of thinking maybe we could consider this trip uh,” Pierre says turning red, “sort of like a date instead of a tour.”
Marie says, “Pierre do you really mean that?”
CHAPTER TWO
Pierre’s face turning back to a normal color again says,
“Sure I mean it Marie.” Pierre says, “You know if you think about it, in a way we’ve been together now for over a couple of months.” He says sheepishly.
Marie smiling wraps her arms around Pierre
and plants a long passionate kiss on his chapped dried lips. Pierre looks at Marie blushing and says, “Can we do that again Marie?”
“We sure can lover boy pucker up,” Marie says smiling
and leans in planting a second kiss on Pierre’s lips. When she’s
done Pierre lets out a loud Yeeee Haaaw! Marie smiles and says, “You can say that again!”
Meanwhile back in town, Isabella is working late at the
shop, Cheri had to leave to pick up her daughter Megan at her
babysitter’s house.
Across the street in an alley, Lucifer speaks to his demon disguised as Morgan. Lucifer asks, “Well did you do as I asked?”
“Yes Dark Lord just as you instructed me,” the demon says. “I waited for the black haired lady to leave, then while the other one was busy in the back room, I waited for the UPS driver to show up. When he rolled the box of books to be delivered up to the door, I stopped him and told him I was instructed to take care of the package. So he dropped it off at the front of the store and left.”
