Ferio’s eyes glimmer. “How many people could you help with your gift of acting and your passion for story? How many kids could you save?”
I’m silent as I realize that he’s right. Being an actor is my destiny, but it’s not in the way I thought.
Hollywood isn’t where I belong.
It’s home.
“And that is why,” he says, “I am paying full tuition, room and board for you to study Theatre for four years at the college of your choosing, and then, once you receive your degree, to return home to take full ownership and responsibility for the recently built Mayhem Theatre in Limesville, Connecticut.”
My mouth drops open. “Are you serious!?!?”
“I can’t run the Mayhem Theatre from hundreds of miles away,” he smiles. “I need somebody with compassion, Raz, and Puppy couldn’t give me that. She doesn’t care to help others unless it gets her ahead. The idea for this theater had formulated in my mind long ago. I had been searching for years to find someone with as much love for the art as I did, and the minute I saw you walk in the door at The Glamour, I knew I was done searching.”
“No. I can’t.” I shake my head and back away. “I can’t accept this. It’s too much.”
“I have the right to spend my wealth any way I please, and I think you’ve earned it. I don’t want to see any of your potential go to waste.” His eyes shine even more.
“It’s not about the money… well it is, but… a whole theatre?” I ask. “I… I can’t do it. It’ll fail.”
“We both know that you’ll never let that happen.”
The door opens. Maymee cautiously steps in, and I say breathlessly, “Maymee. Your uncle is giving me a theatre.”
She grins and runs toward me, giving me a huge hug. “I thought with all that happened tonight that the news would cheer you up.”
“Yeah, that takes away the sting a bit,” I say breathlessly as I hug her back. “I just can’t believe this! It’s too surreal!”
“Believe it,” Ferio says. He puts a hand on my shoulder. “In the future, you’re going to be the boss of an entire theatre. I suppose you have an idea of who you want to cast?”
“Kids,” I say. “I want to help kids. Teenagers who have nowhere to go. Who need help.”
“I’ll be with you, Raz,” Maymee joins in enthusiastically, before she looks away. “I mean, if you want me to.”
“Of course I want you to, Maymee. You’re the whole reason this is happening.” I smile.
Maymee, Ferio and I talk for hours about all the ideas we have for the theater. When we’re finally finished, the sun is rising and soft clouds are drifting across the sky.
“Goodbye, uncle,” Maymee says as she hugs Ferio. “I won’t forget what you did for us. For me.”
“You’re welcome, my child.” He kisses her on the head, and turns to me.
Ferio shakes my hand and says, “Good luck. I look forward to seeing your first production.”
“You won’t be disappointed,” I promise. Maymee and I head back toward the limo, ready to leave Hollywood behind us.
Relief floods my veins. I’m coming home. Everything’s going to be all right. It doesn’t feel like it, at the moment, but it will be. There’s still this gaping hole in my heart where Puppy used to be, but somehow, I know it’s going to heal.
One thought crosses my mind as we head back for the hotel.
I’ll see ya later, Puppy, I think. You’ll be my best friend for always. No one will ever take your place. But sometimes, best friends just have to say goodbye, in order to start new beginnings. And mine just started.
I take a deep breath, look at the brightest star still hanging in the sky, and wish her luck.

Lights, Camera, Razberry Sweet
(Razberry Sweet #3)
That’s a wrap!
I suck at college.
Correction: I suck at life.
My roommate blows. My friends keep ditching me. And my ex-girlfriend won’t stop rubbing her fame in my face.
But there’s one good thing about it... Maymee.
I love her. She’s the one. But we’re messed up. Too broken to put back together, unless I somehow manage to glue my jagged pieces to hers and make a whole heart out of two halves.
Theater can change that. I know she feels the same way about me.
She just has to give me a chance.
Can I save the day, and this time, get the girl?
I’d said it before, and I’ll say it again; nothing’s impossible for Razberry Sweet.
Acknowledgments
Save Me was a difficult book to write and edit, because I had to be honest. We all know that high school relationships— both friend and romantic— don’t usually work out like they should. The Disney channel High School Musical happy ending usually turns into something spectacularly messy.
At least, that’s what it ended up like for me.
Throughout this book I had to remember what being a teenager was like, and remember how people treated me. I had to revisit a lot of things I didn’t want to, and it was hard. But I’ve gotten to the point where I have to remind myself I’m not that person anymore… and neither is Raz.
Thanks to Sam for always being supportive of Razberry Sweet, to Marisa for cheering me on, and for everyone in high school who read the first drafts and who believed in me.
I have a feeling that Raz’s story isn’t over yet.
