Salena started to laugh, but then stopped.
“Hold on a moment.” She grabbed his face and looked deep into his eyes. “You see purple when you look at that? Maybe we should take you to a medical booth.”
“No.” He pushed his pants off his hips and kicked out of his boots.
“But…” She glanced up at the curtain. “That curtain is blue.”
Grier pulled off his shirt and threw it aside. Once he was naked, he pulled the belt from her waist and dropped it on the floor.
“Grier?”
He tried to pull the long tunic over her head. “I know it’s blue. You told me to lie.”
She stopped him from undressing her. “Tell me another lie.”
“I am sorry I didn’t send for proper nightclothes.” Since she did not let him lift the tunic over her head, he grabbed the neckline and ripped it open. He grinned now that she was exposed. He moved to kiss her.
She pushed his head back, and he groaned in disappointment.
“Tell me another lie,” she insisted.
“I don’t like to see you naked.” Grier pulled at the tunic again, ripping it further so he could draw it from her shoulders.
“How is this possible?” Salena stared at him as if he’d just told her the secrets to the universes. “Grier, no one has ever been able to lie to me before.”
He gazed into her eyes. “Maybe it’s different because I’m your mate, and your power doesn’t need to work on me, because I will never deceive you.”
“Tell me another one.” She appeared fascinated with the idea. “All this time, you have been telling me the truth because you wanted to.”
Grier went to the bed and pulled back the covers. He gestured that she should get in. “I haven’t been thinking of you all morning.”
Salena pulled the boots off her feet and moved to the bed. She slid onto the mattress and he covered her with the blankets. Then, walking around to the other side, he joined her.
He drew her next to him, letting her head rest on his arm as he held her. “I don’t want to lie like this forever.”
He felt the connection between them growing stronger with each passing second, almost as if he could hear her thoughts in his head and feel her emotions. She would be able to feel the same from him.
“I love you,” she whispered, her breath tickling his neck.
“There is one lie I will never tell. I will never lie about my love for you.” He pulled her closer, hugging her against him.
She pulled back slightly to study his face. “My ability might not work on you, but I feel like there is something else between us, a connection. Is it crazy that I keep hearing that word in my head—connection?”
“No. That is what it means to be my mate. My life is now yours. I give you my long years. I give you my thoughts in your head whenever you want them. I give you my heart.” He turned to smile at her and reached to caress her cheek. “You are my everything, Salena. You are my soul, my heart, my life. You are the very air that I breathe. All that I am is yours. I love you, Salena. Forever.”
Forever.
The word hung between them. Nothing more needed to be said, for their love was all that mattered. It would get them through the times to come, through the battles with the Federation, through Cysgodian hunters, through any number of threats facing them.
“Yes.” Salena snuggled into him, and he intended never to let her go. “Forever.”
