  Chapter 25

We have been here over an hour before Leo shows up. He looks at the bomb strapped on Aaron. “This is high tech. William knew exactly what he was doing when he made this.”

“Can you get if off without…” I leave the blowing up part off. Aaron is already scared out of her mind.

“Yes. Aaron I need you to stay very still.”

She nods her head in understanding. Leo kneels down looking more closely. “You see this green wire. It’s connected to this blue one. We don’t want to cut that. This blue one, connected to this blue one will do very bad things.” He weeds out the ones that doesn’t need cutting. It’s as if he is teaching a class in what not to do.

“For the love of God Leo. Cut the damn right one!” Aaron shouts.

“I thought I told you not to move. That means no talking also.” He fires back at her.

He continues to show us what not to cut. Finally he gets to the last one. Snipping both wires at the same time. We are all holding our breath. Aaron has gone pale. He slowly peals the vest off her. She jumps out of the chair she had been sitting in. Then slaps the shit out of me. “What the hell woman?”

“That’s for taking so damn long to come get me.” She storms out of the building.

“I’m so glad I don’t have an ex-wife.” Lazarus laughs.

“You have no idea.” I throw over my shoulder as I go after her.

Aaron is walking down the street. She’s clearly upset. I catch up with her taking her by the arm turning her around to face me. “Where are you going?”

“Why do you care?” She sniffs.

  “Aaron don’t do this.”

  “Go back to your…girlfriend.”

  “She isn’t my girlfriend.”

“Let go of me.” She pulls away from me.

“Aaron.” I take her in my arms hugging her tightly. She’s shaking. “It’s okay honey.”

“No it’s not. I could have died.”

  “You didn’t though.”

“What took you so long? Was you with her.”

She needs to understand that she and I are over. Yes I still care for her, but not in the way I did. Too much has come between us over the years. “No Aaron I wasn’t. We need to have a long talk.” This is the reason I avoid any kind of relationship. Aaron is going to always be jealous. She will always do this if let her.

  “I don’t want to talk.”

“Too bad.” I let go of her long enough to take her hand. We are going to have this talk right now.

“Where are we going?” She wipes at her eye with her free hand.

  “To have that talk.”

“I told you I don’t want to talk.”

“Too bad Aaron. It’s happening right now,” I sat her inside the car, “I want you to listen to me very carefully. This has to stop Aaron. If I want a relationship with Jessica I’m going to have one. You and I are over. We have been for a long time. You can’t keep doing this. It’s not healthy. You need to move on. I care for you, I really do, but…” I just can’t bring myself to tell her I’m not in love with her.

“But you don’t love me. That’s what you’re trying to say isn’t it?”

“I’m not in love with you Aaron. There’s a difference.”

“You love me, but you’re not in love with me?”

“Yeah.” I say on a sigh.

“I don’t believe you. She is just a passing phase. You will come back to me.”

“What is it going to take for you to understand? We’re not getting back together?”

“It’s the slut. She put that in your head.”

“Aaron don’t be delusional. I can think for myself. Don’t call her that. You have no idea who she is and what she’s been through.”

“Oh. I have a bomb strapped to me and she’s the one who gets all your attention.”

  “It’s not like that.”

  “Isn’t it?”

“Aaron. You will always hold a piece of my heart, no one will ever take that away. You and I are never going to be back together. I want you to move on.”

She looks down sniffs then back at me. “Okay.”

For some reason I think it’s anything, but okay. “Come on I’ll get you a hotel room.”

She nods her head. She slides over to the passenger seat buckling her seatbelt. I drive her to the nearest Hotel. I get her checked in and take her to her room. “I’ll brings you some cloths.” Opening the door and stepping back so she can enter. Only she grabs my shirt kissing me. She starts tearing at my cloths and sliding her hand under my shirt. Her hot wet tongue slides in my mouth. She rakes her nails over the bulge in my jeans. I push her in the room tangling my hands in her hair. She presses her body against mine grinding herself against me. I moan in her mouth. She slides my shirt over my head kissing down my chest. Nipping and biting all the way down to the top of my jeans. I suddenly grab her by the arms pulling her to her feet. “No.” I don’t know what made me stop her, but I’m glad. This can’t happen.

“You want me. I feel how much you do.” She presses her hand against my hard on.

  “Stop it, Aaron.”

“Come on one more time for old time’s sakes.”

“No.” Plucking my shirt off the floor, I walk out leaving her gaping.

I’ll have Tango bring her cloths. I can’t go back there. All it would be is sex and I don’t want to confuse her. I don’t need her to think there is something between us because that would be all it is, just sex. I had a moment of weakness. Yes I kissed her back. Yes I was hard as a rock. It has been a long time for me. I’m only human after all. Making my way to the car. I wipe my hand over my face. I sat there for a moment to get myself under control. How the hell am I going to make her understand that we are over? I have to start by not succumbing to her.

I drive back to the building where Tango, Ash and Lazarus are still questioning William’s men. “Anything yet?” I ask Lazarus.

“You wouldn’t believe how well people sing when they are scared.” He chuckles.

“So we know his next move?”

“Not exactly. They don’t know much, but what I did find out, is that William has a brother.”

“Never knew that. I have known him for a long damn time.”

“Get this. The brother is a twin. He and William are the same. Looks, height, everything.”

“Son of a bitch. So this really wasn’t William here today?”

“Nope. William is licking his wounds. He is laying low. His brother is the one you beat the shit out of today.”

That would explain why he seemed to not be injured after being shot three damn times. Because he wasn’t. “What’s the brother’s name?”

  “Simon.” Tango answers.

“So now we have to capture them both.” Ash states.

“Get this. Simon and William are running the human trafficking ring together. It’s a family business. Their father and the fathers’ before them. It’s fucking handed down from generation to generation.” Lazarus shakes his head.

  “Sick fuckers.” Tango says.

“What are we going to do with these two?” I point to the two men Ash has tied up.

“I’ll take care of them.” Tango lifts one of the men over his shoulder taking him out back and loading him in the car. “We are at a standstill right now. I want all of you on standby. I’m sure Lazarus can get more info out of them once he uses his tactics.”

“So we just what? Go home.”

“Spend all the time you can with Sara, Ty. I don’t know how long you’re going to be gone when we find out their next move. Frankly, I’m sick of the fucking chase.” Tango announces.

“We need the info Jessica has.” I say out loud.

“I think that is the key. Whatever she overheard has to be a vital part in all this. They want her too badly. It has to be incrementing. Ty. I know you don’t agree, but I need that information. We may have to have Lazarus talk to her.” Tango sighs.

  “Are you fucking se
rious!” I roar

“Man I’m not questioning her. She’s an innocent woman in all this. I can’t do that to her.” Lazarus refuses.

“I talked to Abraham this morning. She opened up some. He still thinks she’s holding back.”

  “No!” I’m in Tango’s face.

He doesn’t even flinch. Ash comes in between us. “There has to be another way.”

“We have used all our sources. Abraham was the last.”

“There has to be another way.” Lazarus repeats Ash.

“Let me talk to her.” I hear myself saying.

Tango rubs the back of his neck. “Fine. You have two days. Then Lazarus is going to question her.”

Two damn days isn’t long enough. How the hell am I going to get her to open up in two damn days? “Fine.” I walk out of the building.

Dodging in and out of traffic as if I’m on autopilot and I in a way I am. I don’t recall all the turns I made to get back home. I set in the car for a moment. I have no idea how to approach the subject. I know what I have to do and it’s a bastard move. When she finds out she will not understand. I feel even worse for thinking about it. It’s the only way, I’m doing this for her and Sara’s own good. William and Simon are after them. Dreading the evadible, but knowing it has to be done. She is going to hate me if she ever finds out.

“Daddy.” Sara comes running before I make it to the front door.

“Hey Munchkin. Were you a good girl for Sylvia?”

She nods her head yes. “Jessica is here. She seems sad though, I told her we are going to get a puppy today.”

  “Yes we are.” I smile.

Walking in the house the first thing I notice is Jessica sitting on the couch with a cup in her hand. The next thing I notice is that she looks drained. Sylvia is sitting at her side.

  “Ty.” Sylvia looks hopeful.

I shake my head slightly. No William and no Simon. They almost seem like a phantom. The impossible to catch. Setting Sara down on her feet. I walk over to Jessica. “How are you?”

  “Fine.” She shrugs.

It’s evident that she is in no way fine. I let it pass for the moment. “Sylvia would you help Sara get ready. We are going to get a puppy today.”

“Sure” She takes Sara’s hand leading her to her room.

I sat down beside Jessica taking her hand. “I missed you.” Truth.

She doesn’t say anything for a moment. “You just want information. Like everyone else.”

  “No honey.” Lie.

“I don’t know what to tell you.” She’s clearly upset.

Two damn days. Tango’s words keep ringing in my head. “Jessica…I want you here. Sara wants you here.” Truth.

“For information.” She laughs without humor.

I kiss her passionately. Sliding my tongue against the seam of her lips. She doesn’t open at first. Coaching her to open for me and sliding my tongue inside her hot wet mouth earns me a moan from her. Tangling my hands in her hair I deepen the kiss. It’s rough and hot. “In the bedroom.” I whisper breaking the kiss.

Pulling her to her feet before she can protest. I rush to the bedroom. Closing the door and locking it. I taker her in my arms again kissing her. I feel as if I’m on fire. The need for this woman is cursing though my body in a rush. Ripping her shit off I make quick work of her bra. Damn she’s so sexy. I lay her down on the bed covering her body with mine. Kissing her neck down to the top of her breast.

Jessica threads her finger in my hair holding me close. Taking her pink little bud in my mouth I nip and suck. She moans loudly. I kiss back up her neck taking her mouth once again. “Shh…” I break the kiss.

  “Ty.”

  “Shh...” I repeat.

Ripping my shirt over my head and stripping off her jeans. I take a deep breath and let it out slowly. What a sigh before me. She is so beautiful. I’m the luckiest man alive at this moment. I need to take my time with her. My skin feels too tight and hot. She feels so soft. Biting her lips and down her neck to the center of her belly. I dip my tongue in her navel and kiss around to her hip bone. I don’t think anyone has ever taken their time with her. She should, no she deserves to be cherished. And that’s exactly what I’m going to do. Tango be damned. I’m not going to use her to get the fucking information he wants. This is for her and her only.

Spreading her thighs wide I look up to make sure she wants then. Grabbing my hand she halt me on the spot. “I…I…”

“It’s okay honey. If you don’t want this.”

“It’s not that,” she covers her face looking embarrassed and continues, “I’ve been…used.”

  “Shh… that’s not what’s happening here.” Truth.

“I just don’t want you to think differently of me.” Tears spring to her eyes.

“I won’t. I promise,” I slide up her body so I am facing her, “I want this. I want to be with you because I think you’re beautiful, intelligent, and funny. I just want you for you.” I reassure her. She nods her head. I pull her hands from her face. Looking her in the eye. “Do you trust me Jessica?”

  Chapter 26

  “Yes.”

“Do you trust me that this isn’t just sex?”

  “Yes.”

“Then let go whatever is holding you back. I want to be with you for as long as you will have me.” I kiss her softly this time. Pouring my heart into that one kiss.

“Why did you leave me?” She asks breaking the kiss.

“I needed to find William. I wanted you to be safe.”

“I have a lot going on in my head and it’s a mess. I don’t know what to think. I feel alone and scared. The dreams won’t go away.”

“Baby. You were never alone. I know about dreams. I have some really bad ones too. I can’t go into detail, but I assure you they are frightening.”

“I feel as if I’m just a pawn in a big plot to find William. I feel used.”

“Honey. I will never use you.” That is the truth. I decided that I wouldn’t use her own body against her. Instead I’m going to earn her trust. I want her to trust me enough to tell me everything.

“Then why drop me off at Abraham’s front door step? Why leave me there for him to…”

“I didn’t agree with any of it. That’s why I had Sylvia bring you here. I want you here with me.” How do I make her understand I didn’t abandon her?

“He wanted to know everything. I can’t tell him everything. I just don’t remember.”

“It’s okay baby. You will. This thing takes time.”

“I am trying. Some of the dreams are so vivid it feels as if I’m there again.” She sniffs.

“I know baby.” I kiss her softly.

“William did really bad things to me. I don’t remember all of them, but the ones I do remember are scary.”

“You’re safe now. He won’t ever hurt you again.” She buries her head in my neck and cries softly. I kiss the top of her head. This is the first time she has really opened up to me. I will not break her trust she has in me. “I feel honored that you trust me enough to tell me all this. I love you.” Okay I wasn’t meaning to say that. But now that it’s out there I realize that I do really love her. I don’t know when it happened, maybe when she looked out the window of the hotel room. I’m not sure.

“You love me?” She looks me in the eye. Okay that wasn’t what I expected her to say.

“Yes. I. do.” I say in between kissing her.

For the first time since I came home today she smiles. Really smiles at me. “What about Aaron?”

  “What about her?”

“She’s still in love with you.”

“I had a talk with her, by the way we saved her, I told her she needed to move on because I am.”

  “You saved her?”

“Yes. Long story. The point is I’m not in love with her, I’m in love with you.”

She kisses me. “I love you too. I tried not to. I didn’t want to, but I do.”

  “That’s not what a gu
y wants to hear. Try again.” I smile down at her. I just want to hear her say it again.

  “I tried not too?”

  “Wrong. Try again.”

  “I didn’t want to?”

  “Try again.” I tickle her.

“Okay. Okay. I love you too.”

“That’s better. I will always be here for you. I want you to be permeant in mine and Sara’s life.” No I’m not asking her to marry me… yet.

“What are you saying?” She narrows her eyes at me.

“I’m saying I want you to live with us. We missed you so much. Sara and I were like two lost puppies trying to find their way home. She and you have gone through so much I want you both in my life. I need you in my life. I have no idea how I walked this earth without either one of you.”

“I have a long road ahead of me, Ty. I still have a lot I don’t remember. Are you patient enough to hang in there with me?”

“I will be here as long as you want me.” I kiss her cutting off anything else she was going to say.

“Daddy.” Sara calls out. Lightly knocking on the door.

“Looks like we are going puppy shopping.” I pull her off the bed.

“That’s all she has talked about while you were gone.”

“Yeah I promised her one back at Lazarus’s house. She took good care of his.”

“Who is taking care of them while his place is getting remolded?” Jessica asks pulling her shirt over her head.

I grab her one more time kissing her soundly. Breaking away I say. “Dr. Bailey and his wife.”

  “Oh that must be fun.”

“His wife is a dog lover, he not so much. But what is a guy supposed to do when his woman states matter of fact that the dogs can stay.”

She playfully punches me in the arm. “And her man better agrees to what she says or he’s on the couch.”

  “Exactly.”

We walk out and Sara is bouncing off the walls. She is so excited about getting a new puppy. Sylvia bids us goodbye. We all jump in my car heading to the dog pound. I’m holding Jessica’s hand and it feels so natural. Tango will just have to wait on that information she has. She just doesn’t remember right now. I still haven’t brought up anything about William’s twin brother nor have I told Sara about going to Virginia to see her real family minus her parents. I try to keep up the good spirits. I know I have to bring up both subjects soon. Sara and Jessica are talking a mile a minute. It feels so right with these two.
