“Okay, the cream linen wins,” Bee said. “Flowers next.”
They spent the next half hour running through floral arrangements, cakes and favors, until finally Aunt Bee jotted down her last note and closed her notebook with a flourish. “Well, thank you so much everyone. You have no idea how helpful that was.” She grinned at the chief. “Now Charles can stop scolding me for constantly discussing that infernal wedding.”
He grinned. “I only said the planning seemed to take forever. I’m looking forward to the ceremony itself.”
“I should hope so,” Bee said.
“Wait, Aunt Bee,” Mel said, looking around the table with a frown. “What about the venue? Isn’t that the biggest decision?”
“We’ve already decided on that,” Aunt Bee said coyly. “It was the first thing we did.”
Jessie waited for her to elaborate, but she didn’t. “Come on, aren’t you going to tell us where?”
Bee glanced at the chief. She smiled and shook her head. “Not yet. We’ll keep it secret for now. I know how much you two love surprises.”
Jessie groaned but her aunt remained tightlipped.
Mel rolled her eyes. “It’s the café, obviously. Gosh, you’re slow first thing in the morning, Jessie.”
“It’s not,” Bee grinned.
“Oh, come on,” Jessie pleaded. “You can’t keep us in suspense. You’re going to have to tell us sooner or later.”
“Am I?” Bee said, grinning. “Or am I going to drive the two of you crazy? Now, finish your food. We’ve all got a long day ahead.”
