He held Kaiah until she stopped crying and eventually fell asleep. He picked her up and placed her on the bed so that she could sleep peacefully. He walked downstairs where his mom and Synai were talking while Shauntez had finally made it to the house and was stuffing his face.

“Umm, sorry to keep y’all waiting, but Kaiah’s not really in a festive mood right now so she’s taking a little nap,” Deonte announced.

“Is she okay?” Katrina asked. “Synai kind of filled me in on everything.”

“Honestly, I don’t know. Every time we get everything mellowed out, we get hit with some more shit.” He sighed.

“All bullshit aside, no offense ma,” Shauntez said to his mother. “You and Kaiah just need to get away for a few days. Ain’t nothing here right now but drama and I’m tired of her, you and my niece being stressed out. So make it happen.”

  “I agree,” Synai cosigned.

“I can have Guapo make the arrangements so you don’t have to do anything. A getaway seems like the perfect thing for you two right now,” Katrina said excitedly.

Deonte just shrugged. He didn’t care what he had to do to repair his relationship with Kaiah. If they had to leave the damn planet to fix it, he would rent a damn space shuttle for them.

Naomi had made the phone call that could potentially end Sherae’s life. She honestly didn’t think Kaiah would call her, but she was a little happy when she did. Kaiah gave her the okay to put her plan into motion so that’s exactly what she did.

She placed a call to Cedric, Sherae’s ex-boyfriend and told him that she had something that he might have been very interested in. She didn’t know if he would actually show up, but she was hoping he would.

Naomi sat on a bench in Tropical Park waiting. She was wondering if the plan she had would actually work out in her favor. Even though she was laid back in the cut, she had always kept tabs on Deonte and knew all the shit that was going on in his world. As crazy as it may seem, she was actually rooting for Deonte and Kaiah’s relationship to work.

She noticed a light-skinned man walking towards her and had a nervous feeling hit her.

  “Naomi?”

  “Cedric?” Naomi asked.

“Okay, you called me all the way to Florida, so what do you have that I would be interested in?” Cedric asked.

  “Sherae,” Naomi simply answered.

Cedric rubbed his goatee like he was actually interested in hearing what Naomi had to say. “Sherae? She's here, in Miami?” he asked.

“Indeed she is, wreaking havoc on other people’s marriages and trying to break up a home.”

“You mean a happy home?” asked Cedric.

“It was happy until she showed up; but with your help, she won't be a problem for anyone ever again,” explained Naomi.

“How did you find out about me?”

Naomi shrugged. “I did my research.”

Cedric just sat there wondering if this could possibly be a set up. Some chick was calling him all the way to the other side of the country to talk about a bitch he hadn’t heard from in months. It was no secret that he wanted her head, but only the people in his hometown knew about it.

Sensing his hesitation, Naomi spoke up. “You don’t have to do it if you don’t want to, I have other ways to get rid of her, but I just thought you would be interested in getting your money back,” she said before getting up.

“I’m in,” Cedric said. “When does this plan of our go into motion?”

“I’ll be in touch with you very soon. Look out for my phone call.”

Sherae was a bottle of mixed emotions. She was hurt, confused and angry all at the same time. Since the day she walked into that house and saw Deonte, she knew she had to make him hers again. She thought all the love she had for him when she was a teenager were gone until she laid eyes on him again.

It felt like a dagger had gone through her heart when she found out that he was married. Everything that he had promised her, he had given to another female, and she wasn’t having that. Deonte was hers first so she felt like everything that Kaiah had was rightfully hers.

Knowing that he always wanted kids, she thought that he would be ecstatic once she told him that she was carrying his child. She didn’t give a damn about Kaiah being pregnant. Who was to say that she was carrying Deonte’s child anyway?

One time, when Deonte had invited her over, while he was in the shower she went into his pocket and grabbed his condoms, poking holes in all of them. If she had to trap him to make him be with her, then she was going to do that. By any means necessary.

“You hurt me for the last time, Deonte. The very last fucking time,” Sherae said as she threw a knife at the wall that held a picture of him.

With the help of Katrina and Guapo, Deonte had the perfect getaway planned for him and Kaiah. Since she was pregnant, they couldn’t fly to any fancy island, so they stayed in Miami at the Acqualina Resort. He was hoping that this stay for a week would be exactly what he and Kaiah needed to rekindle their flame.

“Oh my God Tae, this is beautiful!” Kaiah exclaimed as she walked around the suite.

“This shit is bad, huh?” Deonte agreed.

Kaiah walked into the bedroom and gasped. She opened the doors that led to their own private terrace. “Oh…my…gosh,” Kaiah said in awe.

Deonte stood back and smiled. As long as Kaiah was happy, he was happy. Suddenly, Kaiah turned and looked at him funny.

  “What’s wrong?” he asked.

“How much did all this cost you, Deonte?” asked Kaiah.

He wasn’t about to tell her that he basically paid a grip for this room for a whole week. “Just know my pockets aren’t hurting behind it and money is no object when it comes to making you smile.”

“You could have got me a strawberry cheesecake and I would have been jumping for joy,” Kaiah said.

“Oh,” Deonte snapped his fingers. “I’m happy you said that,” he said as he left out the room.

Wondering what he was up to, Kaiah followed behind him. Noticing that he was going to the kitchen she shook her head. “You didn’t,” she laughed.

Deonte reached in the refrigerator and pulled out a strawberry cheesecake that he’d had sent to the room before they got there so that it would be ready for her to eat.

“You did!” Kaiah clapped her hands excitedly.

  “I did,” he laughed.

She reached out for it and he pulled it out of her reach. “I think I deserve a kiss or something for this.” He smiled devilishly.

“Are you trying to bribe me?”

  “Just a little,” he laughed.

“Loser,” Kaiah rolled her eyes as she stepped as close to him as her pregnant belly would allow. She puckered her lips and pressed them against Deonte’s. She felt a spark that she hadn’t felt in months.

“Now that’s what the fuck I’m talking about,” Deonte yelled after they finished kissing.

“Can I get my cheesecake now? We are hungry,” Kaiah laughed.

“Oh yea, let me feed my babies,” he said as he rubbed Kaiah’s stomach. He felt the baby kick so he moved his hand and she kicked his hand again.

“Tae, leave her alone, she’s trying to tell you not to touch her mommy. Besides, that shit hurt.” Kaiah smiled.

“She better calm her little ass down,” he laughed. “She must not know that me touching her mommy is what made her.” He winked.

Kaiah punched him in the stomach and took the cheesecake from him. “Shut up!”

“I love you too!” he called out to her as she left out the kitchen. “She hit hard as hell,” he mumbled as he rubbed his stomach.

Kaison was in the nursery putting up the crib and decorating the room. Angel was supposed to be helping, but she was sitting in a rocking chair barking orders with Keymani cosigning with her.

“How the hell y’all sitting down telling me what to do but neither one of y’all tryi
ng to help?” Kaison laughed.

“Because you’re the man, daddy. This is your job,” Keymani said as if Kaison was supposed to know that already.

  “What, girl?” Kaison asked.

Angel looked over at Keymani and couldn’t help but to bust out laughing. Keymani was a whole handful, but she got it honest. “Oh, so you’re condoning this?” Kaison asked Angel.

“The girl knows her stuff.” Angel smiled.

Kaison was about to make a smart comment but the doorbell halted him. “I’ll get it, you finish putting this together daddy-o,” Angel snickered as she get up and wobbled out the room.

She slowly walked down the stairs and went to the front door. When she opened it, there was no one there, but there was a baby car seat and a hollering baby was inside of it.

“What the hell?” Angel mumbled as she picked up the car seat to see a handsome baby boy with a note taped to the handle.

I will be damned if I let you mistreat my child. You created him, so you will be taking care of him. Say hello to you son, Kartier.

  -Mesha

“Kaison!” Angel yelled as she took the baby out of the car seat.

“What the hell! You had the baby that fast?” Kaison questioned with a crazed look on his face.

“Stop playing.” Angel rolled her eyes. “Here,” she said, handing him the letter.

Kaison read over the letter and looked like he was ready to kill. “This is some bullshit! I told that bitch too many damn times that this is not my fucking baby!” he yelled.

  “What’s wrong daddy?” Keymani asked.

Kaison had forgotten that she was even there. Once again, he was caught slipping with his mouth by his daughter. “Nothing baby, daddy’s just a little upset right now.”

“Who’s baby?” she asked, peeking around her dad at the baby Angel was holding.

“We’ll talk later. You go play somewhere.”

Keymani knew her parents were about to talk about some grown folks stuff so she didn’t put up a fight, but did as she was told. Kaison looked over at Angel cradling the baby in her arms and was trying very hard to contain his anger.

“That bitch need to come get her baby or his ass will be taken to child services,” he spat.

“The hell he will,” Angel said.

  “What?”

“You heard me, plus you never did a DNA test, so how do you know for sure that he’s not yours?”

Kaison had to step back and look at Angel to make sure he was hearing her right. She didn’t even like Mesha, so why was she so worried about this damn baby?

“Why does it matter?” he asked.

“Unlike me, you had both of your parents in your life. I know how it feels to be thrown to the side by parents that don’t give a fuck about you. No child should ever have to go through that,” Angel said as she looked into the baby’s eyes. He was innocent in all this and she hated for him to be mistreated. He didn’t asked to be brought into this world.

“He’s not my son, Angel,” Kaison damn near yelled.

  “Prove it,” Angel challenged him.

“Are you serious right now, Angel? What are you trying to prove?”

Instead of answering him, Angel headed towards the stairs. “I hope you finished putting the crib up because he’s not going anywhere until you get that blood test done,” she threw over her shoulder.

Kaison blew out a breath of air. He did not need this shit right now. He hadn’t heard from Mesha since he left that voicemail on her phone when she busted his window and now she just dropped a baby off on his doorstep. Who does shit like that?

“Push Kaiah!” Deonte yelled as she felt like she was being ripped a new asshole.

“No, Tae! It’s too early. She’s not supposed to be here yet,” Kaiah cried as she refused to push.

“I see the head!” a nurse called out.

  “No no no!” Kaiah yelled.

“You have to push Kay Kay,” Deonte pleaded as he held Kaiah’s hand.

“Ahhhhhh!” Kaiah screamed, finally deciding to push.

“One more big push for me,” the nurse called out.

  “I can’t!” Kaiah cried.

  “You have to Kaiah.”

“Ahhhhhh!” Kaiah pushed with all her might for a second time.

“We have a girl!” the nurse yelled.

Kaiah had a funny feeling come over her. “Something’s wrong,” she said.

She looked over at Deonte who had a worried look on his face.

“My baby’s not crying, why isn’t she crying?” Kaiah cried out.

The doctors walked over to her with a sad look on his face. “I’m sorry, but she didn’t make it.”

  “Nooooooo!”

“Kaiah,” Deonte said as he tried to wake her out of her sleep. “Kaiah!” he yelled as he shook her.

Kaiah jumped out of her sleep in a cold sweat. Immediately, her hands traveled down to her belly. She felt a sense of relief come over her when she realized she was still pregnant.

“Are you okay?” Deonte asked worried.

“I think I messed up, Tae,” Kaiah cried.

  “How? What’s wrong?” he asked.

Kaiah told him about her dream and how terrified she is now. “What if this is karma for all those times I didn’t sit my ass down somewhere?” she asked.

“Chill, Kaiah. That was just a nightmare and it doesn’t mean anything. Our daughter is going to come out healthy and looking just like her handsome daddy.”

“I’m scared Tae, I’m really scared.”

Deonte wrapped his arms around Kaiah and laid back down with her on his chest. “You don't have anything to worry about Kaiah, you're going to have a smooth delivery, we’re going to meet our daughter then bring her home and love her. Now chill out and get some sleep.

“I have a feeling that I'm up for the rest of the night.” Kaiah sighed.

“You'll fall asleep eventually. It's only two in the morning.”

Kaiah lay there lost in her thoughts. She was praying that God wouldn't punish her because she acted a fool a few times and didn't go sit her butt down somewhere. She just wanted her daughter to come out healthy.

  “Tae?”

“Yes baby?” Deonte said as he yawned.

“What are we going to name her?”

Deonte had to think about it for a minute. So much was going on that it never hit him that they hadn't discussed what they were going to name their daughter.

“I'm not sure, but we will think of something.”

Kaiah looked up at Deonte and smiled. It was funny how a few months ago she couldn't stand the sight of him but now she felt safe in his arms. His face looked so handsome from the moonlight that was peeking in. She lifted up and kissed his lips before snuggling back into him.

Deonte sat in a chair across the other side of the room watching Kaiah sleep. He felt her tossing and turning last night after the nightmare so he was going to let her sleep since was sleeping so peacefully now. He was thanking God for allowing Kaiah to give him a second chance.

All the shit that he did wasn’t worth it and definitely wouldn’t have been worth it if Kaiah would have left him for good. Not only did he have a second chance to prove his love to her, but he was also blessed with a second chance at being a dad.

He walked over to the closet and reached in his bag. He pulled out a new ring that he’d had made for Kaiah that was bigger than the original one he gave her. He had more diamonds added so it had more carats. He walked over to her and took the old wedding ring off and slid the new one on.

This whole scene reminded him of when he first proposed to her and she jumped out the bed and tackled him. He didn’t have to worry about that happening this time since she was almost six months pregnant. He bent down and lightly kissed her lips before leaving out the room.

They had three days left at the hotel and he wanted to make these last three days special. He already had in mind what he wanted to do for tonight so all that was
left to do was put his plan in motion.

After finishing cooking breakfast, Deonte took a tray of food into the bedroom for Kaiah to eat. Surprisingly, when he went back in there she was already woke. “It’s about time sleeping beauty.” He smiled.

“What time is it?” she asked as he put the tray in front of her.

  “Twelve thirty,” answered Deonte.

“What? Why didn’t you wake me up? You know I never sleep that late.”

“Girl, hush and eat this food. Apple juice or orange juice?”

“Apple, orange juice gives me heartburn,” Kaiah said with her face scrunched up.

“Got ya, one apple juice coming right up,” he said before leaving the room.

Kaiah grabbed the fork on the tray and that’s when she realized the ring on her finger. She stared at it with her mouth open for a few seconds before she screamed. “OH MY GOD!”

Deonte heard her scream while he was in the middle of pouring her juice and just smiled because he knew she had seen the ring. That was the exact reaction he wanted from her.

“Deonte come here, now!” Kaiah yelled.

Trying to hide his smile, he walked into the room trying to play it off. “What’s up?”

“What is this?” she asked as she continued to stare at the ring.

“It looks like a ring.” Deonte shrugged.

She pulled her eyes from the ring and looked over at him like she wanted to punch him. “Don’t play with me, I know it’s a ring but I’m wondering what it is doing on my finger.”

“What? You don’t like it?” he asked.

“Like? I love it, but what was wrong with the other one?”

“I just thought you deserved something new and better since we’re starting new and this time around is going to be even better.”

Kaiah was speechless. To be honest, she didn’t even think she deserved something so beautiful. She wasn’t going to act like every problem they had in their relationship was all because of him because she had done her dirt too.

“Come here,” Kaiah said as tears blurred her vision. Deonte did as he was told and bent down to her level. “I love you,” she said before tenderly kissing his lips.
