“Fuck it.” His fingers are hooked into his jeans as he stares me down.
He slips his jeans and boxers off as one, standing completely nude in front of me. His body is volleyed with ridges, showcasing his muscles on his torso and arms. I take my time, roving my gaze along his body, down until my focus is solely on his cock. It’s color being slightly darker than the rest of his body, and curves upward perfectly; hitting him square onto his lower abs.
I open my mouth to halfheartedly protest, thinking that he is doing this to get out of talking to me, but his mouth claims mine before I can do anything.
His hands cup my round globes, hoisting me up, and my legs instinctively wrap around him. His lips crush mine, bruising them, before he tosses me onto his bed.
He looks like a man on a mission, causing my senses to go into overdrive. Crawling up toward me, he stares into my eyes and asks, “Are you sure?”
The fact that he is always thinking about my feelings first has my heart falling even more for him. For a moment my breath stifles, not realizing I could love him more than I did yesterday and every day before that.
“You plan on making me beg?” I give him a sultry grin as I lift my hips so that they push against his.
He searches my face, most likely wondering what is going on in my head in this moment.
He pushes back against me, equally hard, making me feel him in his entirety. His lips press hard against mine, stealing the gasp that escapes me.
We both grab at my shirt, breaking for only a fraction of a second to rid myself of it. His tongue fights against mine, my hands pushing into his as we give each other as much as the other. Our movements are frantic and needy.
His hands feel so good as they slide across my midsection toward my breasts then slip behind my back. It takes him no effort to rid me of my bra, leaving me only in my panties.
When his lips break from mine, I am left breathless, wiggling and moaning under his touches and kisses on my hot skin. His kisses are a mixture between light and hard as he works his way down my slender neck until he reaches my collarbone. His fingertips trace just above my breasts until they venture around them, circling, until he finally cups them in his hands.
“You are so pretty,” he tells me, dipping his head down as he continues his exploration of my body, steadily moving downward. Each of his groans are filled with need, but I can tell he’s forcing himself to slow down, he’s torturing himself with each precise movement that’s designed to tease my body. This only fuels my desire even more.
I have wanted Luke Rogers my whole life, and I plan on not ever letting him go. In my mind this only solidifies our relationship. It gives us that extra bond that is impossible to have until you fully give yourself to each other.
I can’t seem to stop moaning at each of his exquisite touches, each flutter and kiss branding my heart so that it stays with him. My hands stay in his hair, needing the physical contact with him. I practically buck off the bed when I feel a soft rubbing in my middle, right on top of my panties.
He wastes no time, pulling my panties off my legs, leaving trails of kisses in their absence. All I can think about is his tongue on my pussy and how much I need it.
“Luke.” My back arches as his fingers invade my tight opening, and I most certainly feel like I have risen to heaven as his hot mouth latches onto my clit, sucking on the bundle of nerves, making it feel so good.
I have no control over my body as my hips lift off the bed, trying to help in that fluttery mind blowing sensation that will lead to what I can only describe as an out-of-body experience. Each flicker of his tongue spears me, causing me to need more from him.
Just when I start to feel that light-headedness, his tongue is no longer touching me as I buck under him.
“When you come, I want to feel that tight pussy around my cock.” His dirty words excite me.
I hear his bedside drawer open and open my eyes. Looking up, I watch as he sheaths himself.
The moment he nudges his head between my legs I open farther and he slowly thrusts into me, making me suck in a breath.
“Look at me.” I didn’t realize I closed my eyes and do as I am told. He remains still as I open them for him, then I slowly begin to rock beneath him, chasing that feeling again.
As my juices coat him, he begins to rock with me, his cock pounding into my tight walls.
“Fuck you’re tight,” he growls between thrusts.
“I’ve wanted this forever,” I confess, not meaning to but he feels too good not to say what I’m feeling.
“I’ve jacked off to this image right now so many times. I had no idea it could be like this.” His answer has me rocking harder.
“Kiss me.” The faster I rock, the faster and harder he thrusts into me. I want to ruin him so there is no chance of any other after me. He may be the first love of my life, and I most certainly want to be his last.
His lips find mine, the same time his fingers twist onto my nipple, pushing me over the edge. I scream out, but my sounds are muffled by his lips from our kiss just before he hammers into me, chasing his own release.
His final thrust is deep as he plants himself to my very back walls, groaning out my name. I want to hear my name being said like that every day.
Pulling slightly off, his lips leave mine and he rests his forehead against mine. We are both breathless.
“Holy fuck.”
“That was amazing.” Our breaths are labored as we slowly come down from our high together. Luke rolls to my side, his body never fully leaving mine.
It takes a few minutes for us to catch our breaths, and I begin to overthink everything like I always seem to do. I can’t help but to think if this was all to shut me up. Did it mean the same thing to him as me? When he begins to talk, I am still worried how the aftermath will go. I shouldn’t be worried, we have been together for months, but I can’t shut off that part of my brain. No matter how much I fight against it.
“Remember the night we snuck into my barn?”
I nod, needing to focus on something other than my thoughts.
“When I got home my dad was sitting on the porch in his chair, waiting for me. He told me a story about him and my mom when they first started dating, and how they had fallen asleep in his truck. When he finally walked her to the door early that morning he had to explain to her parents what had happened and why she was late for curfew. He thought he was going to be a dead man because no one would believe this true tale. Then he asked me how the kittens were.”
I watch as his face lights up as he laughs, shaking his head. Then I realize I had been overanalyzing us once again. Luke must have sensed it and this is why he is finally opening up to me and talking about his father. “My dad knew we were there the whole time.”
“What do you think he meant by it?” I ask, playing with a blond strand of his hair with my fingertips.
“Well, for one, he wanted to remind me that I don’t go unnoticed. He always knew when I was up to no good and when something meant a lot to me. He always had a way of putting things into perspective. He knew how much you meant to me. While my mom may worry about you and me, Dad knows I’ll always do the right thing for you. Like he always did for my mom.”
“He would be proud.”
For the first time I see the old Luke, but with more awareness about himself.
“What do you miss the most?” I’m looking for the real answer not the one practiced and the whole town knows.
“I miss that I can no longer ask him for advice or talk to him about everyday things. There isn’t a word to describe how much I miss him. Thank you for believing in me and hanging around when I haven’t been here.” His voice comes out hoarse, with that charmer look he has had in the past. I feeling like this is a monumental moment for us.
CHAPTER 25
I don’t remember the last few months that have passed. I can’t feel anything, and dream to feel something, anything. Last night, for the first time in a long time, I felt something when I touched Shay. I w
ant to keep that high going longer, to remind myself what life can feel like.
Trying to make myself whole again, Kellen convinces me to go along for a ride against him in a street race. Each time the adrenaline runs through my veins, I feel closer to the person I once was. I have dreams of being the person I was before my father’s death. I need to get back to that person so I can focus on Shay and my family once again.
After last night with Shay, I realized I stopped doing what I loved best, which is being with Shay and causing trouble.
Revving my truck, I look over at Kellen as he stares back at me. Glancing back at the light it’s still red.
My mind is running faster than I can keep up. The ranch is mine to run. My mom has no interest in it, it’s not like she can do the work. So either we sell or it becomes mine until my sister, Jewels, is old enough to help. My heart can’t let it go. How do I tell Shay I can’t leave this town with her? It’s been her dream.
The light turns green and I stomp on the pedal, my truck lurching forward as we race down the road, our two trucks taking up both lanes of the side road.
Kellen’s hood is in the lead but as the road bends I can take the advantage to get ahead. Holding the steering wheel tight, I turn sharp, my wheels slipping off the road onto the shoulder of grass. The truck tries to pull into the ditch but I refuse to let it go. For the first time in weeks my mind is quiet. Nothing but the road on my mind. It’s refreshing, addicting. I’ve missed the silence.
As the road goes straight, I’m right in front only for Officer Rhode’s patrol car to be heading straight for us. I can’t press my pedal any more for the truck to speed up, my governor kicking in to slow it down.
I hear the squeal of Kellen’s brakes as he tries to shift behind me, missing the cop car only by a fraction.
My heart is in my throat but I think it’s stopped beating as my eyes stay on the rearview mirror instead of the road.
Catching me off guard, my wheels slip from under me, catching the ditch. I can’t help but overcompensate, twisting my truck to the opposite direction.
Lights and sirens blur as I try to not kill myself. My truck hits the bottom of the ditch and rocks with its tires still on the ground as I hear Rhodes on his speaker.
“Steele and Rogers, step out of your trucks with your hands on top of your heads.”
My hands shake and for the first time since my father’s death I am definitely feeling. I laugh out loud at how good it is to be feeling something other than numbness. I must look crazy. Adrenaline courses through my body, making my legs tremble. I have too much adrenaline spiking though me to think about the repercussions. I think I have gone mad. My eyes are watering from me laughing so hard, even with me trying to keep my emotions locked.
Kellen looks impassive as Rhodes pushes our heads down into the back of his car. Looks like we’re still living up to our reputations. It’s also time I grow up.
*
This is the first time I’ve had to bail out Kellen and Luke. Normally their sweet charm can get them out of most of their problems. But since Kellen’s fight he’s getting away with nothing.
This town is out to get him. I realize they deserve this, but it’s in the type of looks they get. Like this town is waiting for the right time to strike. Piling everything up to place against them.
I’m running up to Kellen as soon as they walk down the steps from the station. With my arm tightly around my brother, I swing into Luke, holding him tight.
“You scared the hell out of me!” I yell at him, hitting him in the arm as hard as I can, but it only seems to hurt me. My face rests against his jaw, staying in the crook of his neck, happy that he is alive.
Luke holds me tighter. “I’m sorry.” He lets out a small laugh before stifling it. “It’s not like we totaled our trucks.”
Taking a step back I look at him then my brother as they fist pump each other, oblivious to the fact they both could have died. It was reckless and stupid.
“You’re sorry?” I place my hands on my hips, ready to explode on them for their stupidity.
Pulling me back in, he holds me while looking right into my eyes. “We didn’t mean to cause a ruckus.” Letting out a breath he tries to explain, “I just wanted to keep feeling normal, like I did last night.”
“You could have killed yourself. Rhodes showed me the video from his car. You are lucky to be walking.” I can feel the wetness in my eyes.
“I love you. I’m sorry I scared you,” he confesses. Our arms wrap around each other tighter.
“I love you, too.” The fraction of a second I allow myself to feel our hearts beat against each other quickly is forgotten.
Kellen’s booming voice cuts into our moment. “What the fuck is going on?”
Jumping at his loudness, I’m reminded that my brother is right here beside us. Slowly, I move out of Luke’s embrace to face Kellen. How I wish we had told him before this moment.
His look is one of disbelief and then his eyes flash to Luke. They narrow in on him and it looks like he is chewing on the inside of his cheek. His nostrils are flaring wide as his chest heaves. I can see the gears in his head move; almost as if he were playing connect the dots until realization hits.
He looks big, powerful, and angry in his stance, his eyes not leaving Luke.
“I thought we trusted each other,” Kellen says accusingly. “My sister is not a girl you fuck and have fun with until you get bored.”
His words cut through me. How can he not see that isn’t what this is?
I wait for Luke to tell him how it is. I turn to face Luke. Kellen and him are in a stare down.
“I’m going to count to five and you need to get out of my face,” Kellen says each word almost as if they were each a sentence. He looks to be hardly hanging on by a thread.
“I’m not letting her go.” Luke pulls me into his side and places his warm lips to my cheek.
I relax as soon as I hear his words. Relieved he’s willing to fight for us. A small part of me was concerned Luke would drop me when Kellen found out. I was worried I wouldn’t be enough to fight for.
“One.” My brother starts to count, Luke stays firmly planted to the sidewalk.
“Two.”
“Kellen, don’t be ridiculous,” I begin to scold.
“Three.”
“Don’t be stupid, Kellen.” Luke continues to hold his ground.
“Four.”
I can see Kellen’s temper flare, his muscles twitching. His fingers curl into his palms and clench before he stretches them out wide and then begins to form fists at his sides once again. I’ve seen Kellen’s rage and temper, recognizing he’s trying to calm himself down.
My eyes go back and forth, my body paralyzed, not knowing how to control the situation.
“Five.” In controlled movements Kellen steps between Luke and me.
“You are a dead man. You better hope I’m not carrying the next time I see you.” His words are full of venom, his threat carrying promise that he will shoot his ass.
Then, like Kellen can’t help himself, he punches his fist into Luke’s stomach, making him buckle in half under the strain.
“The one damn girl you can’t fuck and you go ahead and claim her anyway,” he sneers, looking down at him. His jaw clenches so hard I can hear his teeth grinding as he talks.
“Kellen!” The words are ripped out with my scream.
Luke does nothing other than stand back up and smile.
I watch helplessly as my brother’s left shoulder rolls, the only sign of his punch before it hits Luke in the face.
Luke holds his jaw, probably deciding if it’s broken or not before using his back hand to wipe the blood from the side of his mouth.
“Feel better now, brother, because I’m here to stay.” Luke doesn’t flinch when Kellen steps closer, his chin stuck out, goading him to fight back.
“See you soon, Rogers,” Kellen promises before turning his back on us and walking away.
Taking Luk
e’s hand, I feel the weight of our secret lift, thinking that Kellen only needs time to adjust. If only that were true.
CHAPTER 26
The silence of no one home has me taking the opportunity to read a book in the family room of our house. It’s not too often there is silence in this house. There is always some sort of commotion. Just as these thoughts run though me, a knock breaks the silence. I should have knocked on wood.
My eyes go back to my book, hoping whoever is there will go away, but the knock comes in louder the next time.
Getting up I swing the door open, ready to give my death glare to whoever is disturbing my quiet time.
I’m shocked to see Luke standing in my doorway. It also melts my heart that he is here. I figured with Kellen threatening his life he would try to stay clear of this house.
“Hi there, handsome,” I greet him, opening the door fully for him to come in.
He stands there awkwardly, probably scared that Kellen will come around the corner any moment. I watch as he looks around the house as I close the door. He looks nervous.
“Um, is Kellen around?” His hand rubs the back of his neck. “I wanted to talk to him.”
“Oh.” I can’t help but let surprise and disappointment fall onto my face.
Grabbing my hand, Luke lowers his voice. “I’m trying to make this okay for us.”
Once again my heart soars with his words. “No one is home.”
“No one?” He takes a step closer to me.
“Nope.” I turn around and start going up the stairs where my bedroom is. I don’t have to turn around to know that he is following me.
We both burst through my bedroom door as I kick my door shut. My hands are threading through his hair as he pulls my shirt off of me and I toss my phone onto my bed, which bounces off, landing hard onto the floor. Before I can begin to pull off his shirt he has rid himself of it so that our skin is pressed against each other.
“I can’t get enough of you.” His voice is gruff and his hands smoothly run up my arms and down my torso. “No one will keep me away from you.” His voice is protective and I believe it.
