When wrong feels so right Page 11

I pulled away slowly, moving up to pull my shirt off and toss it aside. I slipped my jeans off and joined her on the bed, kissing her eagerly. I knew that she liked her taste on my lips and she pressed closer to me as our tongues danced together.

  Such sweet sin.

Riley pushed me onto my back and moved over me, leaning down to kiss me again. It was so hungry, and I felt her slick pussy resting against my hard cock. I moaned as her heat touched me, making me slick with her. She rose above me, prepared to impale herself on me before she looked at me with wide eyes.

“Hold on,” I reached over for a condom and she tore it open and rolled it over me. I wanted to go without one so much, but this was new. Even though it didn’t feel new, it was. I gripped her hips as she slipped over me, groaning softly. Her sex was tight, and I rocked up inside of her as she let out a whimper. I liked fucking Riley… a lot. I didn’t want anyone else, and that scared me a bit. Wasn’t it just weeks ago that I was stumbling in my house late after a hook up?

That’s right. It was an unsatisfying lay for me and I’d wanted more when I thought back to it. This is what I wanted, but it wasn’t supposed to happen this fast. It wasn’t supposed to be this good.

She fell asleep easily afterward, resting her head against my chest as I stroked her hair. I slipped out of bed and went downstairs to turn the lights off, securing the house as I grabbed my phone from the kitchen counter. I used to have this thing practically attached to me. I glanced down to see a text from Mark about coming out with the guys soon. Maybe this weekend. It wasn’t a terrible idea, and it didn’t mean I wanted to hook up with anyone else. It was just time out with my friends after a trying time in my life. I knew that Ella was safe. That was the point of a nanny.

I slipped the phone into my pocket and decided to get back to him tomorrow. I just wanted to sleep with Riley, a deep sleep that I’d never had before. I checked on Ella and went back into my room, closing the door. I slipped into bed, pulling the covers over us before I relaxed against my pillows.

Mark caught me the next morning, asking me to meet up for dinner and a beer after work on Friday. I agreed, knowing that I shouldn’t ditch my friends because of Riley. To them, she was just my nanny and if they knew anything, it would be like a hot fantasy to them. I told him that we’d head over after work and he clapped me on the back with a grin. I had great friends.

I went to work and spent most of the day talking to a new client. I was pleased with how well the agency was doing. I worked hard on it for a few years now and felt good giving stability to Ella. She’d have the world at her feet when she was older, able to do whatever she wanted. It was what any parent would want.

Carli called me as well and I bitched her out for telling Riley the details about Brenda.

“Geez, Than. What do you care?” Carli asked, laughing.

“I wanted to seem like a decent guy.”

“You are. Brenda doesn’t change that.” Carli paused. “Wait a fucking second. Are you involved with her?”

“With who?” I shot back, playing dumb.

“I knew there was something there, but that’s fast work, Than. What’s going on?” Carli demanded as I rolled my eyes.

“It’s nothing, Car. When are you and Mom coming?” I asked her as she let out a dramatic sigh.

“We were thinking two weekends from now, Friday through Monday. Mom misses Ella.” I knew that he wasn’t done asking me questions.

“That will be great. I’ll figure something out with work. Send me your itinerary when you have it.” I told her as she sat quietly for a minute.

“You’re not going to tell me anything at all?” Her voice was hopeful, and I barked out a laugh. “I am going to pay attention when I’m there. I am happy for you because she is a sweet girl.”

I ended the call after a little more small talk that didn’t involve Riley. I set the phone on the desk and leaned back, knowing that Carli was going to be brutal about this. She was already encouraging me where Riley was concerned. I wanted to figure this out on my own before family got involved.

It was the next day that I told Riley I would be home late on Friday. She nodded, but I saw the concern pass across her face for a fleeting moment. I knew that the Brenda thing put some doubt into her head. She served meatloaf for dinner that night, but it was different from anything I’d ever eaten. It was great, and I watched Ella eat it right up. Riley told me that she’d clean up while I took Ella to the beach, making me wonder what was wrong with her.

I agreed and headed down the stairs. It was cool and beautiful down here and Ella ran forward to a rock, seemingly familiar with it. I pulled my phone out and snapped a picture of her smiling, sending it to Mom and Carli. My daughter was adorable, and my heart filled when I looked down at my screen. I was a lucky man. I glanced up at the house and saw lights on in the house, hoping that Riley was okay. We were new and had to work through the normal dating things even though I just wanted to hide out in the house all the time.

We walked back up to the house, and I saw that Riley’s door was cracked. Ella pulled me upstairs for a bath and I followed, running the water and her favorite soap. She got in and started playing with her bath toys in between washing her hair and skin, giving her plenty of time to have fun. I dried her off and brushed her hair before getting her into clean pajamas, thankful that the maid was coming in the morning to do some laundry and clean up. Riley did a great job with the house, but she was too busy thus far to do laundry.

“Riley?” Ella asked in her sweet accent as smiled. We went downstairs and got some cookies, taking them to the table to eat as Ella called for Riley. She came out of her room with her hair pulled into a messy bun and glasses on. Fuck, she looked hot. “Cookie.”

Riley smiled and poured some milk before joining us. She still seemed slightly reserved, and I told her to come up to read a book to Ella. She took our glasses to the sink and followed us, turning into Ella’s room. I went first and read softly, not near as good as Riley. I kissed Ella good night and stood to give Riley her turn. She sat down on the bed and settled against the pillows, opening the fairy book that Ella loved. I left and went to my room, waiting for Riley to join me.

I heard Ella’s door close and glanced up from the mattress where I was sitting with my laptop. Riley poked her head into the room and told me that Ella was asleep, and I gestured for her to come in.

“What’s bothering you?” I asked as she sat down in front of me.

“I guess I am just having trouble figuring out where I fit into your life,” Riley spoke slowly, looking warily at me.

“Is this about tomorrow?” I asked as she shrugged. “I haven’t seen my friends for a while. It’s nothing.”

“I know that. I also know that I have no business worrying about it. This is just… new.” She shrugged, and I set my laptop on the table beside the bed, scooting to be closer to her.

“I used to sleep around occasionally, Riley. I admit that. I was growing tired of it before I met you since Brenda wasn’t much more than that to begin with. When I hired you, I was looking for some stability in Ella’s life and my own, but I never thought you’d be this good for us. I was attracted to you from the first day, but I swore I wouldn’t touch you. Look how long that lasted.” I smiled, and she nodded with a blush to her cheeks.

“I know.” I moved closer, brushing her lips with mine.

“I am going to have drinks with friends and have my driver come to get me… to come home to you.” I kissed her harder, and she closed her eyes weakly, pressing closer to me. We ended up with her on her back and my body pressed between her legs, kissing clumsily. I rose to close the door, stripping on my way back to the bed as she stared at me. “This thing that we have is electric for me.” I knelt and slipped her pants off with a wicked smile. “I can’t find this with anyone else, not at this point of my life.”

“Good.” She lifted her shirt off and pulled me down for another kiss, her tongue eager against mine. We ended up wit
h me on my back and Riley sliding down my body to take me into her mouth. She licked the tip, swirling her tongue over the slickness as I groaned. Riley pressed down, taking me all the way inside as I groaned her name. She worked magic with that mouth. I let her work me to the edge before easing her off to get a condom. I asked her to wear her glasses as I took her, and she spread her legs with a nod. I took her hard and deep as she cried out, gripping my shoulders. We rocked together like a couple that had been together for longer than we had. I moved into her, feeling her tighten as she arched her back. “Nathan.”

“Come for me, Riley,” I begged her as I felt myself harden, fitting tighter in her. She jerked and cried out, flooding me as I released inside of the latex.

We parted, and I went to the bathroom to clean up. I walked back to the bed to see her already under the covers and curled up against a pillow. She smiled at me and I joined her, clicking on the monitor before I pulled her close for another kiss.

  Chapter 17: Riley

I kissed Nathan goodbye the following morning when his driver came to pick him up. I didn’t even know that he had a driver before this. Ella waved at him from the window and then came over to finish stacking her blocks. I joined her, trying not to think about the long day ahead of me. I cleaned up the dishes before we left to go to a kid’s museum for the day, having a blast chasing after her before we went to a pizza place for lunch. It was late after that and I reluctantly drove home, so she could nap. There was pizza left over for dinner and I tried to look forward to a night of movies with Ella.

I wasn’t into jealousy and insecurity. It wasn’t something that I’d ever felt before. I carried her in and took her to her room before fetching the box from the car and putting it into the fridge. I grabbed some water and walked outside to look over the ocean and long stretch of beach. I reminded myself how lucky I was to have this. All of this.

I sat on the deck and enjoyed the weather for a while. I’d probably go to sleep with Ella tonight since I was tired from the late nights with Nathan. I also didn’t want to think about him being out. I should be happy to have some time to myself since that had been rare lately.

  That’s the spirit.

I went in and grabbed my Kindle to read outside along with one of the receivers for the monitor. It was a book about a dramatic relationship full of twists and turns and I felt lucky that I didn’t have that. We were just hooking up at this point. So, would it get that way? I wanted as much peace for Ella that we could give her. Fighting wasn’t going to help that at all.

I kind of knew what it felt like to be a step parent in this moment. In this case, there was no birth mom, and that was probably a good thing. It was just confusing to date a father when you spent so much time with his daughter. It was the complex process of falling for them at the same time in different ways.

I read until I heard Ella stirring, carrying the Kindle inside before I went to get her. We had a snack and went down to the beach for the afternoon to play for hours. I brought her back up to the house for seconds on pizza, sitting at the table as I sipped wine. I wasn’t going anywhere, and the house was locked up.

We moved to my room, and I turned on a movie, listening to Ella as I half-watched and read the book. The air was strong outside and I could smell the salt as I tried to not look at the clock on my Kindle.

Ella fell asleep at the beginning of the second movie and I picked up my phone to text my sister. We chatted a bit, and she asked how things were with Nathan. I told her how he was out tonight, and she assured me that I shouldn’t worry. He was a successful businessman with a lot of acquaintances and friends and needed to decompress. It was flattering to me that he trusted me enough to go out at all.

I knew she was right and didn’t mention it again as we discussed meeting again next week. Jada and Ally were asking to see me again even though they were so distracted with Ella that I barely got a hug. They also wanted to play with Ella and I glanced at her with a smile. I wanted to plan something where we could stay the night there or them here, but I was not at that comfort level yet.

I told her I’d call her on Monday and we could make plans, feeling a little tired. I shut off the lights and closed my door, turning the TV to something for me as I tucked us under the covers. I listened to the waves over the muffled voices and thought about how great this job was for me.

I woke up in the morning to the sun, blinking. Ella was sleeping with her feet poking my ribs and I looked around to see that my room looked the same. Where was Nathan?

I got up slowly and left the room, making sure that she was still sleeping. I walked through the kitchen and noted that everything was just like last night. My heart dropped as I imagined him at some woman’s house and I breathed in slowly. I walked upstairs and through the locked gate, scared to look in his room. Did I have the right?

I noticed that his door was open and peered inside to see him sleeping across the bed. His laptop was out, and I heard his TV as I smiled with relief. I was so glad that he was home. I knew that I needed to go back down and wait for Ella to wake up, giving him a chance to sleep in. I had no idea how late he was out.

I walked down the stairs and into the kitchen to make coffee. I poured a cup and set it down to look in at Ella, who was stirring under the covers. I walked over and sat beside her, stroking her hair as she looked around the room.

“Hey, kiddo. You’re in my room again. You fell asleep watching a movie.” She rubbed her eyes and moved to lay in my lap, asking for Nathan. “He’s sleeping in his room. Let’s stay down here so he can get some sleep, okay?”

We made our way to the kitchen as I sipped some coffee. I asked her if she was hungry and she only wanted a banana with her milk. I got that for her and took her to the playroom, leaving the food at the picnic table inside. We played dolls and blocks in between bites of her food and sips of my coffee. It was fun, but I was anxious waiting for Nathan to wake up.

He wandered into the playroom about an hour later, freshly showered. He explained that he went to work out given how long it had been after making sure we were fine. Nathan sipped coffee and sat by Ella, helping her with a puzzle. I felt his eyes on me a few times as I cleaned up one corner but kept my attention focused on the mess.

We went out to have lunch, and I fixed Ella a sandwich and cut up some apple. I asked Nathan if he wanted anything and he mentioned the pizza in the fridge, asking if he could have some of it. I told him yes and made myself a sandwich since I didn’t eat breakfast.

When we were seated, I asked if he had fun. I saw the look that crossed his face and sighed.

“It was good to see the guys again. We had a good dinner and some drinks at a sports bar we liked.” I nodded and tore at my sandwich, hating myself in that moment. “Riley?”

“I’m sorry. I don’t know how to act or feel right now.” I admitted as he reached a hand out to cover my hand.

“It’s okay. I didn’t drink too much and when I got home, the two of you were sleeping. I decided to let you.” I looked into his eyes, seeing that the decision had bothered him. He really did want me last night. His eyes promised something to me and he pulled me into his room when Ella took her nap.

“Nathan,” I protested softly as he pulled my pants down and told me to get on my knees.

“I want to show you how much I wanted you last night,” he murmured as I moved for him. “I was so hard thinking of you on the drive home.” He tore open a condom, and I felt him behind me, inside of me. I gasped, needing this. “Do you feel me, Riley?” I could only whimper in return as he moved hard. Nathan fucked me as I rocked with him, needing him deeper. I wanted to scream when I came but held it on, pressing my face into a pillow to muffle my cries. We dropped down together on the mattress with our bodies entangled, both of us listening for Ella.

“Thank you,” I told him as he reached out to stroke my hair.

“Thank you. I considered waking you up last night, but you looked so peaceful. You and Ella were beautiful.” He took a
tendril in his fingers, pulling gently. “This is a thing, Riley.”

  “It is?”

“My friends wanted me to meet someone last night. They think it’s time to move on and while I want to tell them about you, it’s not the time. They can be assholes sometimes.” His voice held regret in it and I glanced his way.

“The nanny thing?” He nodded. “I can understand that.”

“Give me time. We’re already going to have to deal with Mom and Carli in a couple of weeks. She’s suspicious.” I laughed. “I held her at bay for now, but I might not have the strength in person.”

“That’s okay. They’ll support it. Your friends might think you’re crazy.” I moved to wrap my arm around his stomach, shuddering at his perfect stomach muscles.

“I don’t want them to see you to judge. I might have to end the friendship.” I gazed at him. “Men are like teenagers their whole lives when it comes to some things. We’re all rapidly approaching thirty and they still surprise me sometimes.”

“My sister knows.” He looked curiously at me. “She could see it in my face and she’s the one I talk to.”

“Does she think I’m a pervert?” He asked as I shook my head.

“She told that it works that way sometimes and to enjoy it. She has a point.” I smiled as he kissed me.
