“Well, let’s see. Number one, I was putting wood on the fire to keep you warm and number two, I seem to recall you calling me your woman earlier today. That gives me the right to put my cold feet on you any time I please.” She said, with conviction.

“Oh, yeah. Well that also gives me the right to do this.” He said, tickling her.

She had thought he would kiss her and was unprepared for a different kind of attack. She nearly fell out of the bed, as he tickled her relentlessly. Finally, no longer able to stand it, she grabbed his head and brought his mouth to hers. She kissed him like he’d kissed her, tongue darting into and out of his mouth, causing him to growl deep in his throat and haul her back squarely onto the bed.

He covered her with his body, taking over. Sabrina was happy to let him, as the waves of pleasure washed over her. They were both naked and the feel of his hard chest against her already swollen breasts was enough to create that telltale wetness between her legs. She craved that connection they had when they were joined, that feeling of finally being whole.

“Oh, Sabrina.” He said, breaking the kiss to look in her eyes. “It’s been much too long since we’ve been alone. Every night I’d watch you at the campfire and all I could think about was pulling you into the woods and taking you right there under the stars.”

“I would have let you.” She said, the trust she had for him shining in her eyes.

“I know.” He said, crushing her mouth with his.

She squirmed under him, wanting to be closer, but pinned under him. Finally, she pushed against his chest and rolled him on his back. Planting kisses up his arm and across his shoulder, she worked her way down his chest, her hands exploring the hard muscles of his thighs.

When her hand finally found his erection, he sucked in a breath both of pleasure and pain. Sabrina’s mouth and hands had him painfully hard, and the more she explored the harder he became. As her mouth drew closer to his cock, he was breathing hard in anticipation, when she took him in her mouth he thought he would explode from the pleasure.

His hands found her hair, grabbing fistfuls in his need to hang on to something as his world exploded with sensation. He was beyond stopping her when she began to use her mouth to stroke him, taking as much of him in her mouth as she could. She used her tongue to tease him, then took his entire length in her mouth again.

Garret was so close to climax he didn’t think he could stop, and when he tried to pull Sabrina up, she resisted, increasing her rhythm until he came in her mouth, crying her name. He laid there, spent as Sabrina crawled her way back up the bed, to rest in his arms.

Garrett was far from finished with Sabrina, he caught his breath, then rolled her on her back. He smothered her with a kiss that was both possessive and tender, his hand found one of her breasts and cupped it, lighting a fire in Sabrina’s belly. When his finger and thumb found her nipple, her whole body jerked as he gently squeezed it, making it harder and more sensitive than ever.

His mouth soon followed his hand, first toying with one breast then the other, he used his teeth and tongue to drive her wild. Her heart beating wildly, she spread her legs in an invitation that he couldn’t resist. Still teasing her swollen breasts, his finger found her clit and he began to stroke the sensitive peak.

Sabrina’s world was spinning, her body wanting more, demanding more. She raised her hips and Garrett plunged his finger into her, relishing in her hot, wet passage. He rolled on top of her, settled himself between her legs and began to kiss his way down her stomach. But Sabrina wanted him and wasn’t taking anything less.

Pulling him back up, she looked into his eyes and said. “I want you inside me now. I need you Garrett.” She rolled them over and straddled him, then lifting her hips she grabbed his throbbing penis and guided him to her opening. In one swift move she lowered her hips, burying him deeply inside her.

She paused as the feeling of him filling her up traveled through her body, the sensation of wholeness taking her breath away. The feeling was even more intense than it had been the first time, and in a flash she understood that she was fully and deeply in love with this man. But Garrett gave her no time to consider these feelings, he grabbed her hips and began to thrust into her, deeply, touching her very core.

She rode him, the waves of pleasure rocking through her with a force she’d never experience before. Her hands resting on Garrett's chest felt like the only thing keeping her anchored to the ground. But Garrett pushed her up and found her breasts, teasing her nipples until they were hard and throbbing.

Sabrina was panting, spinning, her orgasm building when his finger found her clit. He rubbed her with each powerful stroke of his cock, and Sabrina exploded, her body clenching around his hard member. Garrett pulled her hips down and thrust his up, then ground himself into her as he spilled himself inside her, crying her name as he came.

She collapsed on top of him, barley able to breath. Finally, she raised her head and looked at him. He had a pleased smile on his face and she laughed. “You look like the cat that caught the canary.” She said, kissing his chest.

“Hmm, I don’t know about that but I’ve certainly caught something wonderful.” He said, running his hands up and down her back, giving her goose bumps.

“Garrett, how did this crazy thing happen? I mean, are we taking a huge risk? I’ve been down the bad relationship road, I don’t want to go there again.”

“I’ve been there too, and not that long ago. Want to hear about it?” He asked, knowing that they were both going to have to share their secrets eventually.

“I guess, but I can’t promise not to get jealous.” She said, sliding off him and cuddling up with her head on his chest.

She listened as he told the story of his ex-wife, their whirlwind romance, and all the trouble he’d had getting her out of their lives. “I guess I was young and stupid.” He said, when he was finished.

“What I can’t imagine is, leaving your baby behind. I’ve heard about mother’s who leave their children, but I can’t imagine it myself. It must be hard for Scott, to know that his mother doesn’t care enough to stick around. Does he see her?”

“No, he hasn’t for a long time. She calls every once in a while out of the blue, sends birthday presents and all that but she doesn’t visit. Last I heard she was in Europe somewhere living off the divorce settlement. Probably looking for her next rich husband.” He said, with a laugh.

She could tell that it still hurt and she could understand. “Well, she’s the one who lost out. Scott is a great kid and you’re not so bad yourself.”

“I’ve told you my story, now it’s your turn.” He said, kissing the top of her head in encouragement.

  Chapter 8

She hesitated, trying to decide where to start. “It’s going to sound a bit like a made for T.V. move. I married Stan right after I graduated from college, he swept me off my feet. I’d landed a job in a little town not far from where I’d grown up. My parent were already gone, so I think I was looking for a place that reminded me of them.” She said, sitting up in bed and hugging her knees.

“Stan swept me off my feet, he was a big man in town and I was the new comer, it was flattering that he’d chosen me above all the other women. He had a big family and I was attracted to that, but after we were married I realized that he wasn’t all that he appeared to be.” She stopped to collect her thoughts, then took a deep breath, ready to continue.

“Things were okay for a while, I’d come to terms with the fact that all my husband’s business dealings might not be quite legal. He was good to me, showered me with gifts, took me on expensive vacations, but that didn’t last. His business took a turn for the worse and he took it out on me.” She could feel Garrett stiffen beside her.

“At first it was just words, but eventually he used his fists to release his anger.” She put her hand on his leg to stop him from getting up. “Stay put, you can’t get to him. I was getting myself together to leave him, but then I got pregnant. Things were better f
or a while, but eventually he returned to his old ways, including sleeping with as many other women as he could.” She shuttered a bit at the thought.

“I let him do what he wanted as long as he left me alone. I was dreaming of the day when I could escape. But then he decided that he wanted a son, and he wouldn’t leave me alone. That’s when I decided I had to leave.” She was still composed, but just on the edge of tears.

“Did he...?” He couldn’t finish the question, the anger of what he’d done to her, burning like a fire in his veins.

“More or less. I let him do what he wanted, it was easier. I didn’t enjoy it, in fact it became a chore. Finally, I’d had enough, I packed us up and left one night when he was out with his mistress. I’d saved up enough cash to hide for a while, but I knew that if I ever wanted to be free I would have to face him.” She was having trouble controlling her emotions, the memories coming at her full speed.

“We were living in a motel, when I contacted him, I have no idea how he found us but he sent two of his goons to try and bring us home. I don’t even know why, he didn’t care about me or Marie, I think he looked at us more as something he owned, than his family.” She stopped again, not sure if she could go on. She’d told this story before, but not to someone she cared about. It was different talking to a therapist, there wasn’t so much at stake.

“What else did that bastard do to you?” Garrett asked, sitting up and taking her in his arms. He leaned up against the headboard and held her until she was ready to continue.

“I fought them, and they shot me, then grabbed Marie and tried to take off with her. Lucky for us, they had been stupid enough to get in a fight at a bar just down the road while they’d been waiting for it to get dark and the cops had been looking for them. When they came out of the room, the cops were waiting.” The tears were running down her cheeks. “If they hadn’t been I would probably be dead and Marie would be with her father.”

She sobbed into his chest, soaking them both with her tears, she finally managed to get herself under control. “Sorry, it’s all been so fresh in my mind. I find myself thinking that if I’d known then what I know now, I would have made better decisions.”

“I found myself having those same thoughts.” He said, rubbing her back. “But I’ve decided that all that stuff that’s in our past is just that, in the past. It led you to me, and maybe that’s how it was supposed to be.”

“I guess that’s a good way to look at it.” She said, beginning to feel that comfort that always came with being near Garrett.

“You know I love you.” He said, looking in her eyes.

“Oh, Garrett. I love you too. I’m scared to death but I can’t imagine being anywhere but with you.”

“I’ll never hurt you. I may not be perfect, but I’ll always take care of you.”

“Oh, Garrett, you wouldn’t be half as interesting if you were perfect.” She laughed, kissing him.

“I may not be perfect, but you’re about as close as can be, especially when you’re under me.” He said, sliding them both down onto the bed, then settling between her legs, a place she was beginning to like him to be.

Before she could reply, his mouth found her breast, silencing her with passion. He kissed his way down her stomach, spreading her legs, then found her sensitive spot with his tongue. “My turn.” He said, as her fingers entwined in his hair.

  *****

They awoke the next morning to sunshine and the birds chirping. They could hear the horses moving around in the coral, hungry for their breakfast. They’d worked hard yesterday and would need extra feed today. Sabrina stretched her sore muscles, not sure if they were a result of the day on horseback or her night with Garrett.

“Morning sunshine.” She said, kissing him just as he opened his eyes.

He grabbed her around the waist and tried to pull her back into bed. “We have no place to be and nothing to do. Let’s spend the day in bed.” He said, wiggling his eyebrows at her.

“I for one need to visit the little girl’s room or whatever passes for a bathroom out there, then we’re going to see what there is to eat. I’m starving and I can hear your stomach growling from here.” She said, pulling their clothes down from the line hung across the room.

“I guess you’re right, but I reserve the right to drag you back to bed later today, since you’re my woman and all.” He said, slapping her on the butt on his way out the door.

He’d gone out stark naked, but since there wasn’t anyone around, it didn’t matter. She’d just gotten her clothes on when he was back. “Wow, it's cold and wet out there. I better get the fire going again, then the horses need fed.” He’d begun putting on his clothes.

“I wondered if you were going to run around naked all day.” She said, putting together a pot of coffee.

“Well, it would make things easier for later, but I guess since you're insisting on being a grown up, I will too.”

She kissed him on the way out the door and said. “Poor baby.”

When she got back to the shack, Garrett was taking care of the horses, feeding them oats from a bin in the barn. Sabrina had to laugh, the barn was bigger than the shack, which said a lot about how important these animals were to the boys.

She took inventory of the kitchen, discovering that there were lots of canned goods, some flour, sugar, basic spices, and a can of shortening. She even found some oatmeal and brown sugar which she cooked for their breakfast, topped with some sweetened condensed milk she found. It was a tasty filling breakfast.

“There are some decent supplies in the kitchen but not much protein. How long do you think it will be before we can get out of here?” She asked, as they ate.

“Well, it will take at least 48 hours for the water to recede, but I don’t know if we’ll be able to cross there anyway. Those trees may have blocked the path, unless the water moved them further downstream, we’ll have to find another place to cross. But there’s no way we’re going anywhere for a couple of day.”

“Well, then we better find a way to supplement our diet, canned soup and vegetables won’t keep us going. Do you have a plan?”

“There are fishing poles and traps in the barn, I think I’ll try my hand at trapping some rabbits. I can set the snares this morning then we’ll check them tonight.”

  Sabrina wrinkled her nose. “Rabbit?”

“Yep, there’s plenty of them around here, and they make a tasty stew. I would bet that everything we need to make my grandmother’s rabbit stew is in the kitchen. Tomorrow we can try for some fish, but right now the lake’s going to be too stirred up to catch anything.”

“Okay, but you’re cleaning and cooking the rabbit. I’m a bit out of my element here. Bring me some fish and I’ll be okay, but rabbit, ewe.”

“The city girl finally emerges.” He said, taking her bowl to the sink.

“I’ll eat it, I just can’t promise I’ll like it.” She said. “But there’s a big patch of wild raspberries on the hill over by where we camped, I bet I can get enough to make us some desert.”

He considered telling her that it might be dangerous to go picking berries in the fall when the bears were fattening up for winter, but she was a grown woman and he had to trust her instincts. So far she’d surprised him at every turn, holding her own no matter what had been thrown at them.

“That is an excellent idea, although you’re all the desert I need.” He said, grabbing her and kissing her until her knees went weak. “But, if you’re going to be picking berries this time of year, you need to be very aware of your surroundings. Bears love berries too, the sugar turns right to fat, so if you see one, get out of there.”

“I’ll be careful.” She said, touched that he would be so concerned for her.

“This afternoon, after the rest of our chores are done. I’m going to teach you to shoot a gun. We’ll start with a shot gun, that’s the most effective weapon out here.”

“You’re going to teach me to shoot? A gun.” She asked, not sure if she
was comfortable with the idea.

“You should know how to protect yourself out here, we haven’t had anyone hurt in a long time, but that’s because we’re prepared. We can talk about it when I get back. Be careful, I love you.” He planted a kiss on her forehead and was out the door before she could reply.

Hearing him say those words in broad daylight made them undeniably true, she should have felt panic, but all she felt was a warm sensation that spread from her toes to the top of her head. She emerged from the shack, found a bucket in the barn and headed for the berry patch.

By lunch she had a pail full of berries and was planning how to best use them when she heard Garrett coming back from his bunny hunt. She shook her head, if she continued to think of them as cute little creatures she wouldn’t be able to eat one, and she was hungry for more than oatmeal and the soup they were having for lunch.

He was out in the barn long enough that she was sure he’d done the cleaning and butchering out there, and was thankful. It would be easier to eat the rabbit if it was just pieces of meat. He came in and put the meat, wrapped in a clean towel, on the counter then washed his hands.

“I caught one almost immediately, so we’re eating rabbit tonight. I’m sure there will be more tomorrow, hopefully you’ll like it.” He said, taking a bowl of soup from her and sitting on the bed to eat.

“Me too. I’m starving for some meat. I wouldn’t make much of a vegetarian.”

“Me either, especially since beef is my business.”

  “Good point.” She said, laughing.

“Are you ready for a shooting lesson?” He asked, when they’d finished lunch.

“I don’t know. I’ve never thought about shooting a gun. It seems kind of dangerous.” She said.

“Guns are definitely dangerous, but if you’re going to be running around up here, you need to be able to protect yourself. It’s not like you’re going to be toting around an automatic weapon. I just want you to learn to shoot a shot gun.”
