“I can,” He said, nodding his head and stepping to the side, “I can. So just… get out of here, I won’t stop you. And I won’t tell anyone what I saw, you just disappeared, that’s all I’ll say.”
Shane nodded his thanks, watching as Leo marched off into town, not in any sense of direction, more that he… just needed to walk. He smiled, uttering one last, “Thanks kid,” before he turned back to his friends.
“Well, should we get out of here?”
Though it was safer to be in the back of the truck, after the fiftieth mile Shane had to admit that he was dying to sit up in the front seat, if for no other reason than giving his tired body a rest. After all was said and done, he felt like he could rest for a year.
“So, where are we going?” Holly asked, curled up next to Shane and running her hand through his hair, “Kind of a long way to go without having a destination.”
“For now, I think we’re just going to drive,” He said, closing his eyes and relaxing into her side, “Probably going to have to meet up with my family sooner or later.”
“Oh that should be fun.”
“Tell me about it, I still owe Orson a broken jaw…” He groaned, falling limp next to her and muttering, “Wake me up when we get somewhere ok?”
He was out in no time at all, but he still had time to smile when Todd said, “I still don’t have any idea what the fuck is going on…”
But there would be time to explain everything soon, when they were all ready for the truth and when they’d had time to heal. But for now?
Well, now was the time to rest.
