She thought about it, knowing that it would be a great chance to succeed and gain repute. But she didn’t want to do that. She didn’t feel like she should be running around trying to run a company or anything. That’s not what a princess does, and she knew that Tommy already had the money, so he didn’t need to have her work. It seemed like a foolish thing to do, especially in the sense that she was already being taken care of by him.

“I don’t know, I feel like my talents are best used here. I want to take care of you, and I want to make you the happiest man alive,” she said.

Tommy smiled, sipping from the wine that he had. “Well then my dear, if that’s what you wish, then so be it. However, your parents have been asking me at the joint meetings about what you plan to do with the future, and I think it’s time that the three of you had a talk about it. I heard that Joe is also working in the company,” he said.

“Yeah, he’s doing well. He’s definitely working hard,” she told him.

“I imagine. He didn’t seem too happy about you running off to marry me however,” he remarked.

That was the understatement of the year. Joe was mad about this, because he really wanted Peter and her to get married. Of course, Joe only knew Peter as a friend and as another brother, and the two of them hadn’t really talked all that much. Apparently Peter was hard at work with school, trying to get his engineering degree. He was probably trying to make his student loans as low as possible so he didn’t have to spend a ton of time paying them off.

Why was she thinking about that? She had her prince now, and she was madly in love with him.

“Well my brother isn’t the one who was with you, I was. I don’t care what he thinks, I’m with my prince and that’s that,” she said with an adamant glance.

He got up, kissing her softly. “Well I’m glad that you love me babe,” he said.

“I do. Very much so,” she replied. She knew that she would have to talk with her parents about the future however. She wasn’t going to let this just sit there and fester like a wound.

After a few days, Cindy decided to meet up with her parents and brother. Her brother was the junior manager, and her parents were executives in the company. Cindy felt honored to come from such a successful family, and when she sat down at their round table, she smiled.

“I’m glad all of you are doing well,” she said.

“Thank you dear. We’re glad you found the right man as well,” Kelly her mother said. She was happy when Cindy ran off to marry Tommy, for he was a rich man. She was very happy when Peter and she broke up, simply because Peter wasn’t rich like this other man.

“We wanted to talk to you though. We love you, and we wanted to offer you a position in our company. It’s doing well, and we can bump you right up to a manager,” David her father said.

Cindy thought about it. Her parents were very into their company, sort of how Peter’s father was with his restaurant. It was strange though, because her parents wanted her to marry someone rich and be successful, and she remembered that Peter’s family wanted him to be an engineer and grow up to marry someone that he loved. She didn’t know why she was thinking about this, but it almost seemed like her parents had their map planned out for her and urged her into these decisions.

“Well, I had this great idea because I feel like this is where my talents lie right now,” she told them.

“Let me guess, you’re not going to take the position because of Tommy? That’s silly, why wouldn’t you? You’ll get a great pay to start with, and the work isn’t even that hard. You should do so, especially since our parents are offering it,” Joe said.

“You should take it sweetie. We want you to work in our company,” David replied.

Joe and David seemed very pushy on this. It seemed strange, especially considering that Joe rarely spent a ton of time working. He was still dating random girls and going out on weekends.

“Well, I don’t want to do that dad. I want to be a good housewife to Tommy, and I want to take care of him. He’s my prince, and I want to be his princess who caters to him. That’s the job I feel like I’m destined for, the job I’m meant to have,” Cindy said.

“But dear, you should be smarter about this. You don’t know what’s going to happen in the future. It might be best if you did have a safety net in case something happens,” David stated.

“You don’t have to push it on her David. I mean, she’s happy right now. She’s married a rich man who makes her happy, and I think it’s best that you respect her wishes,” Kelly replied.

“Well I think it’s foolish. You should think twice about what you’re doing Cindy. Dad is offering a great job for you, and all you have to do is say yes. I know that Tommy has a company too, and if you’re going to work there, then that’s fine, but please at least be smart about this. I don’t want you getting screwed over,” Joe said.

Cindy thought about this. She knew that her brother did have a point. A safety net seemed like a good idea in a sense, but at the same time, she felt like she didn’t really need it.

“I don’t need it. I don’t need the safety net. Tommy said that he loves me, and he’s married to me so I’m sure that’s obvious. I just want to be his princess.” she said.

Joe wanted to argue this, especially since Joe never trusted Tommy whatsoever.

“I don’t trust that man Cindy. I really don’t. I’m looking out for you right now, and I came with mom and dad as support, but I’m going to tell you right now, that if you think everything will be hunky-dory forever with that man, you’re in for a rude awakening. I’ve never liked him, especially since he made you break up with Peter. You treated Peter like dirt, and I don’t think you should be putting all of your trust into a guy like that. Sure you guys are married now, but think in the future. Think of how things might change. You’re being a fool for trusting him so quickly,” he said to her.

Cindy was getting mad. “I’m not. You might think it’s a bad reason right now, but you’ll see. At least I have a man who loves me. You can’t even keep a girl for more than a few dates. You’re still a player after all these years,” Cindy said.

“That’s because I’m waiting for the right one,” Joe replied.

  David whistled, stopping them.

“That’s enough. I love you Cindy, and I want you to be happy. Even though I was a bit shocked about the whole Tommy thing, I’m still supportive of you. I just wanted to offer you a position as a manager of a branch. If you don’t want to take it at the moment, that’s fine. Just remember that you’re an adult now. You make your own decisions, and you will choose the fate of your future,” he told her.

She listened to her father, and although her father was being paranoid as well, she acquiesced.

“Thank you dad. I’m glad that you finally listened to me. Don’t worry though, because I’ll make the right choices. I’ll do what’s best for me,” she replied.

“Good sweetie. I’m happy for you,” David replied.

“Yes. If you’re happy with Tommy, then I’m happy. You’ve picked a fine, rich man, and I’m glad that you feel so strongly about him. I’m so happy for you,” her mother gushed.

“Thank you. Thank you both,” Cindy replied.

The meeting broke off, and Cindy was happy that she would get to cater to her prince. Joe wasn’t happy, and when they left he flashed her a disappointed look. She didn’t care though, because she was with her prince and was happier than she ever expected to be. This was the right choice for her, and at this point, she didn’t give a care about what others thought. It’s her life, and she just wanted to do what made her happy.

  Chapter 4

The first six months of the marriage were great. Cindy felt happy, she was able to cater to Tommy, and overall she felt really excited. She was able to take care of him, be the right-hand woman that he needed, and in general she had felt better about her life than ever before. Still though, she had this bad feeling that something could be wrong, and at the moment she reall
y didn’t know what to do about it.

Maybe it was just her intuition betraying her or something, but she continued to have this strange gut feeling. She was very happy with her marriage, and Tommy seemed happy as well. The man was smiling more than ever before, and she was happy to see him looking at her like that.

“Hey there babe,” she said with a smile.

“Hey love. How you been?” he asked.

They kissed, and Cindy felt like she was the happiest woman in the world.

“Good. I’m thinking about your birthday gift. I’m trying to figure out something that you will love,” she replied.

“Well, I’m good with just about anything. If you spoil me by making me something I’ll be more than smitten with it you know,” he said with a wink.

She blushed, knowing that being the perfect woman to her prince would be the best gift in the world.

“Well I’ll think of something, okay love?” she asked.

“Thank you,” he said with a grin.

She started to look round, trying to determine what she should do for him. She looked through magazines, and then finally, she noticed this cake. He loved animals, and it was an intricate cake, but the recipe was right there.

“Oh my gosh, this would be perfect for a present. I’m definitely going to have to learn a thing or two about making cakes, but this would be simply amazing,” she gushed to herself.

She decided that would be the present. It would be the best thing for him. After all, it was made with love and affection, and that’s what really matters. She knew that it would be the best present in the world for him, and she could learn how to do so in due time.

Cindy got together with the chef, telling him about her surprise present. The chef offered to help make it, but Cindy was insistent upon making it herself. She wanted to learn how to make it, and she knew she would have to spend months getting everything together to make it amazing. She knew she would have to test it a few times, and she might mess things up, but with the chef nearby helping her so that she doesn’t burn the kitchen down, and with a determined look on her face, she knew that she was going to get it done.

Cindy strived to make this cake amazing, and she spent two months perfecting it. There was a lot to learn, but she was quick about it, determined to learn how to do this in a simple, effective manner. She was ready for whatever challenge would come her way next, and once she learned how to make it, she mastered it.

The final product was made the night before, and Cindy was going to bring it to his office to surprise him. It would be a great way to show how much she loved him, and the fact that she learned how to do it herself made her feel like she was the epitome of a great housewife because of her actions.

She got to the office, feeling sure of herself. She knew that it was going to be a great day, and once they were done there, they would go out and have a romantic dinner. It was definitely surprising to her that she was so happy about this, especially since in the past she never went this far with a birthday. But this was the first birthday her husband and her had together, and she was determined to make this work. He treated her right all this time, and it was only fair that she paid him back.

She got into the elevator, and then that nagging feeling came back. She tried to shake it off. She really didn’t know why it was here, but it kept eating away at her like some sort of bug. She tried to shoo it away, to make it not bother her as much as it was, but at the same time, she could already feel the apprehension coming over her. Why was this happening? What was going on? Did she have some sort of strange doubts about it all? Or was this just her own imagination playing tricks on her. As the floors started to go up and up, the aching feeling started to become stronger, and it only culminated when she got to the top floor.

She stepped out of the elevator, trying to deduce what was the source of this feeling. She then went over to the door to the office, and when she heard the strange noises, she immediately grew a bit nervous. There was the sound of something smacking, almost like a kiss, and there was a small sound that uttered through the door. Either way, it seemed like there was something wrong, something very wrong indeed.

When she opened the door, she immediately dropped the cake, all of the hard work that she had ruined. She never thought that she would see this, but in front of her was the sight that she never wanted to see.

Her intuition was right. Something was very wrong. Her husband was there kissing her best friend Nancy. His hand was up her shirt, and the two of them looked flushed, and Cindy was about to burst at the sight of them. This was shocking, especially since she didn’t know what to think.

She felt numb, and when Tommy moved away from Nancy he started to move towards her.

  “Babe,” he said.

“Don’t babe me. What is going on?” she asked him.

  “It’s not what you think—“

“Oh? Then what is this? Because I just walked in to see your hand up her shirt, and she had swollen lips. I see only that. I can’t believe you,” she admitted.

“But you don’t get it do you?” he told her.

“No I don’t. I never would’ve thought that you of all people would do this sort of thing. Honestly, I can’t believe you. I really can’t believe you. I thought you were better than this, I thought that you loved me,” she said.

She couldn’t stop feeling the shock that was roaring through her body. Her best friend Nancy and she had been through a lot, and she helped her get to where she is today. She now saw her best friend kissing and touching her prince. The prince that she had sworn her life to, who she had married and decided she would take care of. Why did this have to happen to her of all people? Just why.

“Why did you do this? Why?” she asked.

“It’s not what you think. You don’t get it Cindy,” Nancy said.

“I helped you a lot. I can’t believe that this is the thanks that I get. I hate you,” Cindy said. She did help Nancy a lot. Nancy was his secretary, and she had been working there for a few months. Cindy knew that she had a rough life, and she needed a job fast. She couldn’t believe that Nancy would treat her like this. She wasn’t able to find a job, so Cindy talked with Tommy and he agreed to allow her to work for him through the difficult times. Now it seems they were both doing some other type of work as well, a work with one another.

“I can’t believe you. I can’t believe it,” she said.

Nancy was about to speak, but Cindy wasn’t going to have it. She wasn’t going to let Nancy get away with this. She marched over to Nancy, heading to her face. She slapped her cheek, and soon Nancy was rubbing it.

“Why would you do that? Why?” she asked her. She was sobbing, and Nancy just looked at her with a cold glance.

“Well, maybe you should ask your husband why? He’s the one who prompted it. I just went along. I can’t believe you got so darn lucky with this man, ‘Oh I’m a little princess! Look at me, look at me.’ Pathetic,” she said to Cindy.

Cindy felt numb. She didn’t know what else to say. The tears were cascading down her face. She thought that she was doing the right thing, that she was treating the prince that she loved in the way that he wanted to be treated. Obviously, that wasn’t the case. However, there was something else that she wanted to ask. She turned towards him, looking at him directly in the eyes.

“So why? Why did you do it?” she asked.

“Well, I wanted to. he agreed. I’m sick of you, and I don’t really care anymore,” he said.

He wasn’t like how he was before. He was different, cold, and in a way it kind of explained why he wasn’t answering her messages when she tried to text him. He stopped doing so recently, and it was bothering her. She thought that maybe she was bothering him. Obviously, that wasn’t the case so to speak.

“I still can’t believe you. You’re a bastard,” she said.

“Well you should believe it. That’s what’s going on, and if you don’t like it, then I’m sorry. I’m so sick of you. I don’t care any
more,” he said.

He turned away, and Cindy tried to talk to him again. She was feeling hysterical now, the tears coming down her face, and she felt like she was being betrayed by the only person she could trust.

“But Tommy! I thought you loved me,” she said with a cry.

There was nothing. There was nothing going on, and he didn’t move or say anything else to her. It was like she was talking to a wall, and Cindy wondered what she could do next. There was nothing for her. All of her options were gone, and she felt like she was in shock.

However, she couldn’t stay here anymore. She couldn’t stay in this place with these two people. They were both betrayers, and she hated both of them for that. There was nothing else that they could say that would make her think otherwise, and she knew that being in the toxic environment wasn’t going to make her feel better.

She ran to the elevator, slapping the button and going down the elevator. She had to get out, and immediately she ran out of there, trying to cope with the feelings that she had. She couldn’t believe everything that was going on. She felt numb to the touch, and it bothered her a whole lot.

She went to where the park was, heading there and sitting on the bench. She felt like all of the air that she had in her lungs was gone, replaced with an empty feeling that she had never felt before. It scared her in all honesty, and it made her wonder if maybe, just maybe there was something that she could do. She sat there, looking out blankly in the distance.

All of the confidence, all of the sureness that she had in her life, tanked at that very moment. The only thing that she felt was hurt, insecurity, and a lack of confidence. She was sure that the man loved her, that he was the perfect prince for her. He married her, and this was the thanks that she got. She felt like all of the work that she did to be with him was for naught, and it hurt her to imagine that. She really didn’t know what to say at that moment, and the only thing she could do now was to look out.
