‘Oh, right,’ Bo replied guardedly, sensing his sarcasm. As if on cue, the opening notes of The Promise by Girls Aloud boomed out of the barn. Emil and Florence sniggered.
‘Good choice,’ Bo said wryly, pushing herself up from the sagging sofa, ‘It’s one of my favourites.’ She took Emil’s hand and, with the setting sun casting long shadows behind them, and the promise of a night of jubilant celebration ahead, the four of them walked across the grass and disappeared inside the barn.
