“Silas, that wasn’t me. I’m the child. You killed my father, remember?” She tried to stay calm, but she didn’t know what the hell was wrong with him.
He was confused.
“He raped your daughter, and I had to stop him. So now, I’m going to make sure you are okay.”
He pointed at her belly.
“When you have that baby, it’s going to be taken away. You aren’t fit to raise a child, Linda.”
Roxy was getting scared. “I’m not Linda. Linda is dead. I’m Roxanne.”
He laughed. “You can’t fool me, Linda. Now sit down and be quiet.”
She went to move.
He slapped her.
Roxy was stunned as she cowered in the chair. Silas stood over her, and he grabbed her by the hair. “Maybe, had I been harder on you, Linda, you would get it. I’m done playing around.”
He hit her again, and again.
All the while, Roxy protected her child. She curled around her belly, trying to save their daughter.
When he was finished, he left her sitting there, chained like some animal.
She closed her eyes, reached out, and began praying.
Not to God.
TO Avalon.
She needed a miracle.
And fast.

The Next Day
Bishop was on the mend. After seeing the doctors in the emergency room in Ireland, Lucian wasn’t taking any chances. While he didn’t doubt they could do the job, his wife was a battered, broken mess.
She needed the best of the best, and he could buy that. So, as they loaded her up onto a jet, he shook hands with the team.
They were heading home. Bishop would need plastic surgery, and extensive care to rebuild her body.
While he wanted to go after Silas then and there, she had to come first. At the jet hanger, he hugged them all.
Especially Avalon.
“You’re leaving me?” Avalon asked.
“Just until I get Bishop better. We’re going to head home, and we’ll meet with you somewhere.”
He pulled a credit card out of his pocket. “Use this to secure a place for you. Call me, and let me know where you are. Once I can leave her…”
Jagger shook his hand. “Kiss her for me again. I know she tried.”
Lucian knew how she felt. “She wanted to save her.”
“I know she did. I don’t blame Bishop. She nearly died to protect her. I blame Silas. He’s the enemy.”
Oh, he certainly was.
Lucian was already looking for him. He had feelers out, searching for the two men who’d done this to his wife. Once he found them…
They were dead.
Well, after they told him where to find Roxy and Silas.
“I swear I’ll catch up with you both,” he said, hugging them. “Bishop will be better and back too. We aren’t leaving you. We’re just taking a hospital hiatus.”
They got it.
Avalon gave him a kiss on the cheek. “Stay in here,” she said, touching her own head.
He did the same.
“You stay in here.”
Then, she let him go.
As he walked up the stairs, onto the jet, he glanced back. “Find him, Avalon. I know you can do it.”
The door of the jet closed, and they saw Lucian take a seat beside a hospital bed. Bishop was a mess, and they could see her through the windows. She was sedated for the flight.
He looked out, blew Avalon a kiss, and then waved. He said something inside, and the jet took off.
As they watched, they were filled with worry.
Could Avalon do it without her other psychic half?
Could she actually control the static and find Silas Reed? The man wasn’t psychic, so…
This might be harder than they thought.
“What next?” Jagger asked, still feeling edgy. If it were up to him, he would have followed Silas back that same day.
Only, he needed Avalon’s help.
He was putting all his faith in her.
“We have one thing left to do,” she said, taking Jagger’s hand in hers.
“Let’s get something to eat.”
“Avalon, I’m not hungry,” Jagger said.
“She’s playing his game,” she said, morphing into Oracle. Her body shifted, she stood straighter, and her eyes got that misty look.
“Roxy?”
“He’s insane, and he’s hiding her.”
“How do you know?”
She smiled. “Roxy. I can hear her.”
That helped him relax. “Is she okay?”
She didn’t tell him the things she’d heard. He knew Jagger would lose it. If they wanted to save Roxy from Silas, they had to do this right.
“He’s told the Irish mob you’re alive.”
He didn’t move. “I don’t care.”
“You should care. What’s coming is going to change everything. If we don’t do this right…”
He got it.
“Okay, tell me what to do.”
She smiled. “First, we have something to eat…”
He relented. “Okay, I’ll drive.”
No one argued, but everyone was worried.
Something was coming.
It was big.
And it was going to be bad.

At his place, he was grateful that Brianna only had a broken arm. They’d placed a cast on it, and she was healing. As she sat on the couch, petting Molly, he paced.
“Are you okay?” she asked.
“The static.”
She got it.
She heard it too.
“I feel like we need to leave and help them,” Laird said. “I want to help them find Roxy.”
She didn’t argue. “Okay.”
“But you’re pregnant. You deserve that dream of a home, a life where you can do anything.”
She got up and headed his way. “We owe them, Laird. If you want to go, then we’ll go.”
He looked around the place.
“You don’t mind going?” he asked.
“It’s an adventure. Besides, she’s meant to do this. How are we going to teach her to be like Oracle if we don’t watch and learn ourselves?”
She had a point.
“Molly.”
The dog lumbered over. “I’m not leaving Molly behind,” Brianna said. The dog licked her fingers. “She’s our family. She comes too.”
He knew what it meant. “Pack a bag.”
She gave him a kiss. “We will be fine, Laird,” she said. “We will do this together.”
He knew he could always come back. He knew his job would be waiting for him. After all, he solved a serial killing that was out of control. His boss, Jack O’Brien was grateful.
This was just going to be a short hiatus.
A vacation.
A break.
He pulled out his phone and left the man a message that he was taking a honeymoon, and a little break.
Then he went and packed his suitcase.
They were heading out. In his mind, he saw the address. He knew where they’d be. Avalon was waiting.
As they locked up his door, closed it up, for now, Laird loaded his dog, his wife, and himself into the vehicle.
It was time for an adventure.
His wife smiled over at him. “Let’s find them.”
Laird pulled out of his garage, hit the button to lock it up, and headed toward the people he’d become fond of over the last week.
“I love you, Mrs. Maguire.”
She grinned. “I love you, too, my husband.”
Molly got in on it. She licked them both.
It made Brianna laugh.
“Here’s to our new adventure.”
The both reached for Avalon. She welcomed them with open arms. She told them the plan.
It was crystal clear.
It was about to begin.
Laird saw their destination. What an adv
enture it was going to be. Laird, Brianna, and everyone else were heading to America.
A week ago, he wouldn’t have seen this coming.
Now, he couldn’t wait.
Life had gotten a new purpose. He had a gift, and so did his wife. They could stay and be simple people, but fate wanted more.
He wanted more.
They were going to make a difference.
They were going to save lives.
Laird had finally figured it out. He’d written his own fate, and also Brianna’s.
They were meant to save the world.
On psychic at a time.
And THEY were okay with that.
It was time for Oracle Hunting...
