Spring's Destiny Page 2

I can’t tell if she’s being serious or not. “What kind of stipulations?” Looking at her, I can’t wait to hear this. I knew it was too good to be true.

“Nothing that bad. The first is two horses would come with the property.” Sticking my hand up, I stop her.

“I didn’t see any horses, Ruth, and I was in the barn.” That doesn’t make any sense.

“Well, the second is that you meet with the brothers in two days at the house and they will bring them. I guess one of the brothers rescued them or something like that. At that time, you would need the cashier’s check for the full amount for the house,” she says. I go to say something as the waitress comes with our drinks and salads. Thanking her, I put my napkin on my lap. Taking a bite of my salad, I think, I was looking for an amazing house; it’s just I as I hoped it would be. Everything I dreamt of wanting and then there’s the fact that I feel at home on the mountain in that house. I can’t put my finger on it.

“Anything else?” I look over at Ruth.

“Yes, there’s a groundskeeper that usually stays there; they don’t want him to have to leave. Of course, you don’t have to pay him. That is already taken care of for you. You can move in tomorrow and then do everything the day after.”

“OK, I’ll take the house, I hope the horses are nice,” I say, looking grumpy. Ruth busts out laughing. Shaking my head, I finish up my salad. Ruth gets on the phone and calls the brothers. The smell of our dinners, which were, set before us, is amazing. Not waiting for Ruth, I dig into mine. With each bit I take of mouth-watering steak, the delicious meat melts in my mouth. I guess I didn’t realize how hungry I am.

“OK, the day had to be changed so you’ll have four days to yourself before the brothers get here.” She smiles and slides the keys over to me. “Congrats, you own the home,” she says, laughing. Putting my fork down, I grab the keys, running them through my fingers.

“Thank you, Ruth, you have been the best.” Smiling at her, she just laughs.

“You are so picky that I didn’t think I would ever find a house to suit your taste.” Shaking my head, I finish up with the steak. The waitress comes and clears our plates; then she sets a drink in front of me.

  “I didn’t order this,” I tell her.

“No, you didn’t, but he did,” she says, nodding over to the bar. Looking behind me, I get that feeling I had at the diner this morning. Shivering, I look at the guys at the bar; the one in the middle raises his glass. Picking mine up, I do the same to him. Turning back around, I look at the waitress.

“Man, I wish they would buy me a glass of that wine. It’s $1,500 a bottle.” Freezing, I stop from bringing it to my lips. Shaking my head, I take a sip. It’s the sweetest wine I have ever had—it bursts with flavor in my mouth and tickles my tongue.

“Please tell him I will greatly enjoy this but that he shouldn’t have.” The waitress nods and heads over there. I hear him chuckle, then another guy walks over to Ruth and asks her to dance. She looks over to me, and I shush her away smiling. Grabbing our purses and our drinks, I make my way over to a couch no one is occupying. Sitting down, I settle in to watch the dancers for a little while.

Feeling the couch move under me, I look over just as the guy who purchased my wine sits down slowly. Raising an eyebrow, he just smiles at me.

“You like the wine?” he asks.

“Yes, thank you, but you shouldn’t have,” I say, blushing. Why am I blushing?

“It was nothing.” He stands up, setting his wine glass down and reaching his arm out. “Dance?”

“OK.” Standing up, I take his hand. He leads me to the dance floor and pulls me to him. His body is rock hard in all the right places. He takes my hands and wraps them around his neck. Sliding his hands to my hips, he pulls me in close. We are touching everywhere. Moving to the music, I start to relax into him. Looking up into his eyes, they are black as midnight. I don’t think I’ve ever seen eyes that dark before.

“What’s your name?” he murmurs in my ear.

“I’m Spring, and you are?” His hands run slowly down my back then back up.

“I’m Maddox, my full name is a bit hard to say,” he whispers. Smiling, I tuck my head to the side of his neck. I see the other people on the floor dancing just as close. Feeling eyes on me, I look over to the bar—the three men that are with him are smiling. Looking away, I see Ruth, and she’s having a good time. Shaking my head, Maddox shifts so he can look down at me having a clear view of my face. But our hips are just as close.

“Is that your friend?” He nods over to Ruth.

“She’s my realtor, I just bought a house today,” I say, smiling.

“Well, congrats, is it in town?”

“No, it’s located up on the mountain,” I say. I don’t know why I’m telling Maddox this; I don’t know this man well. For some unapparent reason, I’m affected by his presence. I need to get a grip. I still have a bad feeling about the men he’s with, but I can’t put my finger on it. The song ends, so we walk over to the loveseat and sit back down. He hands me my glass of wine, and I take a sip. The feeling is amazing. Almost hypnotic. Drinking the last bit, the waitress comes over and fills both our glasses up.

“Thank you for the first glass of wine that I’ve ever had, which I thoroughly enjoyed drinking.”

“Ah? I would have to say this is one of my favorites as well,” he says. “You have impeccable taste, my dear.” One of the men comes walking over and leans in to tell Maddox something. I see him stiffen up, nodding his head.

“Spring, I’m sorry, but I have some business to take care of that seems it can’t wait.”

Standing, he bends down and kisses me on the side of my mouth. I can smell the wine on his breath, and it makes me shiver. I see him try to hide a small grin that wants to appear.

“Please enjoy the rest of the wine, one of my men will let the waitress know to take care of your every need. I will see you soon, my love,” he whispers in my ear. With that, he’s gone.

I can’t believe how fast he left; I didn’t get to say goodbye. Taking a sip of my wine, I watch the dance floor.

Ruth comes over and sits down next to me. I wave to the waitress and point between us. She comes over and sets a glass in front of Ruth and refills mine. Smiling, she leaves us and goes back to taking caring of the tables.

“Oh, I see that mister hotty left you the wine,” she says smiling. “What is this hotty stranger night here or what?”

“I have no clue, never been here before. Ruth, I’m going to leave after I drink this. Got to move in the morning,” I say, smiling.

“Well, then come dance with me before you go. And promise me you’ll meet me here tomorrow night for dinner and dancing.” Looking over at her, I get up, and she follows me to the dance floor.

“OK, I’ll come tomorrow night.” It can’t hurt; this has been fun. The song that’s playing is a fast one. The song gets turned up, and I start to sway. Turning, I kick my left leg out followed with my right and turn again, creating a sexy dance to this song.

A few of the guys are watching me. Laughing, I turn and start the other way. Moving my hips back and forth, as I turn again, there’s a line of guys facing us. Great, I get to dance with someone I don’t know. All in fun, I guess. Dancing up to the guy in front of me, I notice it’s Maddox. Smiling, he grabs me by the hips and moves with me.

  “You’re back?”

“One last dance for the night, Spring?” Nodding, I let him turn me. He pulls me back a little so that I grind against him. Raising my hands in the air, I turn and twist. Looking at the bar, I see the five guys that I saw come in earlier all staring with grim faces. The ones with Maddox are standing between us staring them down, their hands at their belts. What the hell is going on? It looks like there’s going to be a huge fight.

“Maddox, what’s up with your friends?” I ask him. Breathing a little harder, we move to the right, and he dips me low. Pulling me up, I’m pressed hard against him. He’s grinning at me.r />
“I’ve got to go, Spring, I’ve enjoyed myself.” Bending down, he kisses me gently on the lips. Pulling back, I shove at his chest. Out of the corner of my eye, I see the five men making their way toward us. Maddox lets me go and heads out the back door. Starting off the dance floor, one of the younger ones of the group grabs my arm gently and makes me stay on the dance floor.

“You have to finish the dance there, young lady,” he says, smiling and twirling me around. Looking over my shoulder at the back door, I watch as the guys he’s with exit the door closing it behind them. We move to the left then the right. This guy is nothing but gentle handling me. His hands, never straying where they shouldn’t like Maddox’s did. The song ends so I thank him and make my way to my seat to finish my wine. It takes me all of ten seconds to finish. Grabbing my purse, I stand to head out of the bar. Waving to Ruth, she waves back mouthing the word “tomorrow.” Smiling, I nod my head. The guy I was dancing with opens the door for me.

“Here, let me walk you out.”

“OK, I guess, but I don’t see a need for it.”

“Oh, just humor me. I’m Nick, by the way.”

“Spring, thanks for dancing with me, it was fun.” Walking over to my SUV, I stop and push the unlock.

“Well, thank you for walking me out. Have a great evening,” I say. Opening the door, I get in and start my car.

“Anytime, Spring, and I’m sure I’ll see you around,” he says, closing my door. Heading out of the parking lot, I can’t stop thinking about the weird night I’ve had.

  Chapter 3

Walking around the lake, I see a beautiful waterfall and someone standing next to it. Making my way over, the closer I get I see it’s Maddox. He’s got a smile on his face. Picking up my pace, I walk right over to him.

“Hello, Spring,” he says softly. Gently, he wraps his arms around me pulling me in close. Shivering, I look up into his eyes.

“Hi, Maddox, why am I dreaming about you? This is a dream, right?” I ask. I see creatures flying over us, swooping down grabbing things. Oh, there’re men with wings. Shaking my head, I look up at him.

“Oh, Spring, it’s something like that,” he says, taking his finger and tracing along my jaw slowly moving to my collarbone. He slowly unties my nightie opening it to expose more of my chest, making me slightly uncomfortable with the exposure. Covering his hands with mine, he stops.

“Remember it’s a dream, Spring, what’s the harm?” he whispers in my ear. Hmm, what’s the harm? He’s right.

Wrapping my arms around his neck, he lowers his head, and our lips meet in an electrifying kiss. He traces the tip of his tongue over my lip. Opening them a little, he takes advantage and plunges his hot, wet tongue inside, playing with mine. Picking me up, he walks over to a grassy area and kneels to lay me down. He lies down on top of me, kissing me again. His hand roams over my body; making its way underneath the top, I am wearing; he grabs my breast and squeezes my nipple. Moaning from the pleasure his hand is creating, my back arches up wanting more. He chuckles as his hand goes lower underneath my scantily covered body. Slowly, my nightie slides up my legs. Then his hand goes beneath it. I haven’t wanted this so much in my life; I want his hands all over me. He moves my undies over and cups me with his bare hand. I know he can feel how wet I am.

“Oh, Spring, although the blush is sexy on you, there’s nothing wrong with wanting me. I want you just as bad,” he says huskily. To prove it, he grinds his hips into mine, and I can feel that he’s rock hard under his jeans. He starts to unbutton them and pull them down. Opening my eyes, I see one of the guys from the bar flying over and landing behind us. Stiffening up, Maddox opens his eyes and chuckles. Looking into his eyes, they are all black. I push him to get him off me.

“Oh, my little lover, you wanted me not two minutes ago,” he says huskily.

Still trying to push him off, I hear the guy behind us say, “Maddox, she doesn’t want you now, and by the laws, you cannot take her,” he growls. He pulls out a wicked looking dagger. Maddox stands up and adjusts his clothes.

“You know this will happen; it’s her rightful place,” he snarls. The angel or whatever he is looks down at me as I’m trying to cover myself. Taking a few steps backward, I try to get space between us.

“It’s her choice, and there are others that will stop this at all costs. You don’t need to be told what she is.”

What the hell is going on? Looking over his shoulder, Maddox smiles at me. “We will continue this later in another dream, my dear,” Maddox says. Then he disappears.

Looking over at the other guy, I take a few steps back. He raises both his hands, palm side up, showing he means no harm. Looking at him, I know he’d never hurt me.

“I know you would never hurt me, in fact, you would do whatever I want. Why do I feel this, know this in my heart?” I murmur to him. He walks over to me and gently puts his hand on my hip. Just that simple touch has me hot and ready to jump him. Looking up at him, I see he is trying to hide a grin on his face. “And who the hell are you?”

“Spring, you are right not to fear me. Ever. You will meet me, all of us, in three days, where I will explain things.” He gently touches my chin with his fingers, then drops his hand and steps back. I feel the loss instantly.

  “Now wake …”

  ###

Sitting straight up in bed, I look around the motel room. Holy shit, that was some dream. Looking at my nightie, I see it’s untied. My lips feel swollen, but how could that be? Throwing the blankets off, I run to the bathroom. Looking into the mirror, I can’t believe what I’m seeing—I have a bite mark on my neck.

I need to get out of this motel and move into my house. Dropping my nightie, I hop into the shower letting the water run down my body. I’ve never had a wet dream like that. It was almost real. And the things that were said. They will all meet me in three days. I know I have been feeling weird around town and feeling like someone was watching me, but I don’t know what’s going on. I’m going to try and find out.

Getting out of the shower, I throw on a pair of skinny jeans with a small hoodie. Throwing my hair up into a messy bun, I put some makeup on. I can’t go out looking like crap; I have to go to the store before heading out of town. Walking over to the bed, I put my socks and cute little UGG boots on.

Grabbing my suitcase, I head out the door to start packing my SUV. Throwing my case in, I go back for all the bags from different stores. That’s one of my downfalls; I love shopping, and my shoes have to match my clothes. Getting all the bags in, I go back in for the boxes. When I’m done cleaning out the motel room, I grab my purse and head to the motel office to check out. After I’ve finished, I get into my SUV and head towards Walmart to shop. I saw two hours outside of town. It’s the opposite way to my house, but I must make the trip. As I drive down the road, I realize there’s nothing open yet since it’s only 5:30 in the morning. Seeing a Starbucks, I turn on my blinker and wait for the light to turn green, so I can pull into the parking lot. Parking I get out and a gentleman beats me to the door, opening it up for me.

  “Morning, thank you,” I murmur.

“You’re welcome, ma’am,” he says back. Making my way to the counter, I wait in line for my coffee. Whoever is in front of me is taking their good old time. Getting a funny feeling, I look around the little store. I can’t find what’s making me feel this way. Fisting my hands, I grit my teeth until my hands start to hurt. The feeling has only happened one other time when I found my husband murdered. I was so mad that blue fire shot out of my hand and hit the stranger. I don’t know what else to call it. I know it hurt him bad that he fell to the ground. He didn’t stay that way for long.

The guy in front of me turns to leave and bows low. “My Queen,” he says, smiling. It’s one of Maddox’s friends. He doesn’t say anything more and walks out the door. The uneasy feeling dissolves, and just a little tingle remains.

“Good morning. What can I get you?” the server asks.

  “What, h
uh, oh yes ahh, I’d like a venti coffee with cream and sugar, please,” I tell her. She walks back and starts getting my order ready.

“That guy was weird, don’t you think?” the guy behind me asks.

“Yes, he sure was.” Turning back around, I pay for my coffee, smile at the guy behind me, and walk out the door. That feeling of danger comes back. Grabbing my stomach, I just about bend over and fall to my knees from the pain. Looking over at my SUV, I see that guy standing there with an evil grin on his face. Squaring my shoulders back, I walk over to him.

“What the hell do you want?” I ask.

“You don’t know, do you?” he asks, shaking his head and laughing.

“Know what?” I grit out. Shifting on my feet, I wait for him to answer.

“You will know soon enough, my Queen,” he says, bowing.

“Get out of my way,” I sneer. He starts laughing. I’ve had enough. Walking forward, I grab his arm. Looking down, I see it start to glow blue. He stops laughing at me, and his eyes go wide with shock. Turning it up a little bit, I see him bite down on his bottom lip. I watch as blood starts to run down his chin.

“I said move!” I say harshly. He suddenly flies back twenty-five feet and hits the ground hard. Hoping no one noticed, I hop into my SUV and lock the doors. Safely inside, I see the man stand up, holding his arm where I held it. Bowing his head, he takes off straight up into the sky. What the hell is going on?

Starting the SUV, I back up and pull out, heading to Walmart—it still must be done. Two hours later, I’m in Walmart’s parking lot. It’s now or never.

Grabbing a cart, I start walking down the aisles putting stuff in that I will need. Stopping at the deli, I get tons of lunch meats and cheeses. Going to the bread, I grab five loaves. I have two carts filled by the time I make it over to the candles. I really must look funny pushing one cart and pulling the other. After picking out a few candles, I had to check out. Waiting in a long ass line, I guess they are all the same. They need to hire more help.
