“Spring when he went to Hell for you. It changed him. We knew it would. He wants to kill you, to cause you harm.” Andy speaks up.
“Can we change him back?” I whisper tears threaten to fall.
“We are going to sure try,” Andy says looking into the fire.
“We won’t give up on him.” Sammy murmurs, shifting around in his seat.
Nodding it has to work for now. “While I was in Hell I’ve learned a few things. About bonding and finding my mate. We need Michelle here. Can anyone get him here?”
“You can, my Queen, we have tried…” Andy says.
“He is NOT my destined mate. Did you guys know that? It could be another.” I murmur looking at them.
“Yes, we knew, my Queen,” Andy says not looking me directly in the eyes.
“Why would you have me believe that Michelle was the one? You knew I knew nothing about all this. Why trick me?”
“It wasn’t that per-say it was just that…”
“It was you guys thinking you are all that and wanted to decide for her. You wanted to choose and her being none the wiser…” Jax begins to say but is interrupted.
“Things are to change since I’m queen.” Looking around the room, I’ve got their attrition. “I will choose who as you guys mate with me. I will also fight not to be mated to someone evil. End of discussion. I know that I need to so at some point it will be done.” I wait a bit to see if anyone will say something. Looking over, I notice Jax, with that sexy grin on his face. He nods and sits down.
“Also, what the hell is up with Nick?” I look pointedly at Andy.
“He was cursed a few hundred years ago by some crazy witch. That if he ever went to hell, it would change him.”
“Into what?” Smiling at Maggie, looking into the cup of steaming hot coffee she brought me.
“We don’t know, other than he’s a killer now, make no mistake Spring. He will try and kill you. We are hoping because we were not there that long that the effects will change back.”
“Do you think they will? Change back I mean?”
“Time will tell, we have guys with him, talking to him trying to make him remember.” Andy murmurs.
After what seems like hours, I excuse the men to go on their way. I’ve got thinking to do. I just need to get away. Heading into the kitchen, I grab a few things stuffing them into a paper bag. Changing my boots for the muck boots, I throw on my winter coat. Making my way out to the barn, it’s nice that someone thought about shoveling a path the snows high and still coming down. As soon as I walk through the door, nickers welcome me. Taking a deep breath, I love the smell. The hay and grain the barn smells. I head right over to Storms stall. Wrapping my arms around his neck, I bury my face.
“Wanna go out, big boy?”
“If you are on my back, I will go anywhere, my queen.”
“Call me Spring, Storm. I would very much like to go for a ride.”
Opening the stall door, I lead him out. I don’t tie him I know he won’t go anywhere. I brush him down. I don’t grab a bridle and saddle there’s no need. Swinging up, I make sure my backpack is tight against me, so it doesn’t bounce up and down. We head out into the bright snowy morning. The air is crisp and cold. It won’t take long until I’m warm with my legs touching him.
“Where do you want to go?”
“Let’s head up into the mountains; I just need to get away.”
He doesn’t say any more sensing that I don’t want to talk. Instead, I take in the scenery. The ground is covered in sparkling shards of ice. The squirrels are chattering under the trees. He breaks into a full run. This is what it’s like to be free. The wind whips through my hair. Making it go crazy. Laughing, I throw my arms in the air. Storm tenses under me bring me to my senses. Grabbing ahold of his mane, I look around not seeing anything.
“What is it Storm?” Looking around, he’s only slowed a bit.
“We are being followed.”
“Enemy?”
“I don’t know; I’m sorry Spring I haven’t felt it before.”
“It’s fine, stop up ahead. I’m going to hop off, but I want you to keep going.”
“But…”
“Just do it Storm, if I need you, I’ll let you know. I can’t live in fear all my life.”
“All you need to do is say my name; I’ll be there.”
“I know.”
“Be safe.” He stops short throwing me forward. Smiling to myself, I need to be ready next time. Slipping off, I hide behind the first tree that’s big enough. Storm takes off at full gallop. A few minutes later, I hear the snow crunching from footfalls. Crouching down, I slowly pull my dagger out. Waiting for the right time, to attack. I’m not playing around anymore. I’m getting sick of being hunted. I wonder if it will ever change or is this my new life. A man comes into view a short distance away. I can’t make out who it is; their head is cover, and face is down. I wait till he passes, jumping out I clip him in the shoulder knocking him to the ground. Straddling him in a flash, I have the knife at his throat. I’m staring into piercing blue eyes.
“Jax, what are you doing out here?” I pant.
“I can ask the same thing about you, Spring.”
“But I asked you first.”
“I’m one with nature. It’s easier for me to breath out here.” He murmurs.
“Well, I’m just getting away.” Looking around, “to think.” We are quiet for a few minutes.
“As much as I like you straddling me, I am getting a bit wet.” He says chuckling. Blushing, I move off him, getting to my feet. I brush the snow off my knees.
“What do you want Jax?” Looking at him, he seems so full of life out here.
“I was worried about you going off by yourself.”
“I can take care of myself, Jax.”
“Of that, I have no doubt. But my Queen, the things that want you or to harm you, are more powerful then you can imagine. Turning to look at him. “What kind of thing Jax? You said you needed to talk to me, so talk to me.”
Watching him, he sniffs the air. “Now’s not the time, Spring.” Turning, I see Storm heading right at us fast. Something's wrong.
“Jax, something’s wrong. We need to leave. How did you get here?”
“Why I walked,” he says with a smirk. For some reason, I don’t believe him, but why would he lie about something like that. Turning, I look to see how close Storm is. My arm starts tingling; it’s powering up. Something is coming. Storm stops suddenly at my feet. Rearing up.
“Spring we must go now, evil is coming. We have to go now; Now we must go.” He prances around acting strangely. Not thinking twice, I pull myself up. Looking down at Jax, I reach my hand down to him.
“Come on.” He doesn’t hesitate, grabbing my hand he throws himself, behind me. It doesn’t even faze Storm with the added weight.
“I would throw him off if it wouldn’t hurt you Spring.”
“Be a nice boy, Storm what’s going on. Who’s coming? I’m getting supercharged.” I say laughing a little.
“They are coming from hell with hellhounds on their heels; it’s going to be chaos, Spring.”
“We need to get her out of here, Storm. Away from it all.” Jaz says in our minds.
“Stop right there, I’m going back to the house; I will fight, not hide.” I feel Jax hands slide up my jacket and around my waist. It’s a feather-like tickle on my sensitive skin. Making me shiver. He chuckles.
“Spring I think the fairy is right…”
“Don’t, I will fight, that’s what I was made for right? Take us to the house.”
He doesn’t say anymore and gallops toward the house. I didn’t realize how far we came into the woods.
“You know he can fly, don’t you?”
“Yeah, I know. But isn’t this safer so we’re not seen?”
“I guess just slower.”
Doubling over, grabbing my stomach I let a moan escape my lips. Breath in, then out, I have to ride this wave of pain.
/>
“Spring?”
Panting, “I’ll be fine, I get like this when something bad is coming. I haven’t had it this bad in a while ” I feel Jax hold a little tighter around my waist. My back starts to hurt I don’t think I can take this pain.
“Storm, you need to stop at that little hut up ahead. Her wings are coming.” By this time, I can’t even talk. The pain is too great.
“They will see the tracks to the hut Prince.” Storm says, trying to move my mouth to call him a liar, but it won’t work. I knew something was off about him. Shit!
“You know better than most I make no tracks when I don’t want to.” I grip Storm’s mane tighter. A few yards up ahead he stops, “Go to the house and deal with what’s going on; we will be back tomorrow. Tell them she will be safe and what’s going on. They cannot lead them here today.”
“Understood, keep her safe.”
Jax coaxes my hands-free gently picking me up, cradling me to his chest. He closes his eyes, and we start to float over to the hut that’s 500 yards into the thick woods. After walking or floating through, the doors shut gently behind us. He gently sits me on the floor in front the fireplace.
“I’m going to start a fire to warm this place. I can shield this place no one will find us here.” He says, going around getting the wood to make a fire. I watch as he bends down putting wood in the fireplace. He snaps his fingers and bright fire starts. He goes to all the windows, chanting something that I can’t make out, there’s a light pink glow that encases the windows. Panting, I get on my hands and knees.
“Listen I know I have some explaining to do. But I can get you through this. I can lessen the pain; please let me help you Spring.” He murmurs kneeling next to me. He takes his hands and starts rubbing my back. I arch into his hands because it feels so good. His hands start warming up, and the pain lessens. It’s not entirely gone, but it’s better.
“We need to talk.” I manage to get out. The pain in my back is driving me crazy. He continues to run his hand up and down paying particular attention to the bumps.
“And we will, but first let’s get you through this. I promise I’ll tell you everything. But not right now.” Nodding, I breathe through another bout of pain. His hand comes around to unzip my jacket. He helps me out of it.
“Let’s get you out of your hoodie and bra. It will make it easier.” He murmurs, reaching the hem of my hoodie, my hands cover his stopping him.
“What the hell are you doing?” I try and move away from him. I don’t get too far on my hands and knees.
“Stop Spring, it’s not like that. And if that’s what I wanted I’m a fairy think about it.” He grumbles.
I let him help me out of my clothes; I only have my jeans on. Covering myself, he just shakes his head laughing under his breath. He comes back with a pop and hands it to me He stays behind me. I feel his fingertips gently run over my guardian tattoos. Making me shiver. I need to get a grip. He’s off limits.
“You only choose three, why is that?”
“Sleeping with three is overkill for me. I feel like a slut as it is.” I pant through the pain.
Chuckling, “are you serious Spring? Humans think of sex, so differently than we do.”
“So, you’re saying it’s OK to sleep around with as many as you want?” Turning I look at him. He doesn’t stop running his hands down my back.
“Sure, why not, once you're mated, you're mated for life. You get to keep your guardian lovers for eternity, plus your mate. I will only sleep with one. You have got it made.”
“You’re crazy you know that?” Grabbing my stomach, the pain is starting there again. My tattoo is glowing again.
“Their close Jax, I’m no good like this.” I pant.
“I’ve got you Spring; they can’t feel us in here.” He murmurs. He helps me to sit, leaning back I rest against his bare chest.
“Why don’t you have a shirt on Jax?” I ask turning to look. Boy, I wish I didn’t “You’ve changed.”
“I’m taking back my normal form so to speak. I made myself a lot smaller and changed my looks a little bit. I couldn’t have the King of hell knowing who I was now could I?”
“I’m so going to kick your ass when I can.” He starts laughing and doesn’t stop. “You're not very nice, now are you? I went to Hell to protect you, and you want to cause me bodily harm.”
“You deserve it,” I scream out.
“All I wanted to do is find my future mate.” He grumbles.
Breath through this Spring, your wings are breaking through the skin. This is going to hurt like hell. He moves to the front of me looking me in the eyes. Breathing hard, I arch my back almost like I’m pushing. Screaming they come tearing out of my back. Breathing heavy I try to look behind myself. They are beautiful. They are a charcoal color. With light blue tips. They move on their own. Jax holds me in place. I’m thankful but will never tell him that. I’m still pissed at him.
“It will take you awhile to get used to them. But for now, you have to concentrate to have them retract.”
“Why they feel so good being out.” Looking at his chest, I want to do so many things to him. God, I must stop thinking like this. Seeing his chest moving my eyes meet his. He’s laughing the cocky bastard.
Chapter 28
Jax has me practicing calling my wings and putting them back. I’ve done it what seems to be a hundred times. I’m getting drained. I’m hungry and tired. The threat has passed us, so I know they are headed to my house. I’m sure Storm has arrived there, and they will be ready. I feel that I need to be there to help them. Jax comes in from outside with a bunch of wood. Now that he’s his usual self, he takes my breath away. We still need to talk, and I still want to kick his ass. I know now isn’t the time.
Watching him, he throws a few logs on walking over to me. “Let’s get some rest Spring. We need to start heading back in the morning. I feel a huge storm coming. There’s no food here so getting stuck here would be bad.” He reaches his hand down to me. Taking it, he pulls me up and into him. He’s so hard and warm. Not what I would have thought of a fairy.
“Spring, fairies are not little pussies.” Scowling.
“Why can you read my thoughts?”
“I can’t tell, but in time you will figure it out. I can teach you to block some of it out.” He says, leading me over to the big pile of blankets on the floor. With the fire going we should stay warm. Yawning, I lay next to him.
“You need to feed.” He murmurs, nicking his throat, I watch as the blood trickles down.
“I’ll be OK; I can wait.”
Growling, he gathers me into his arms and pulls me to him. “I want you too. We won’t be mated with taking each, other's blood.
“You need blood?”
“I do, we all do,” Running my tongue, up his neck he shivers. Wrapping my arms around him, I bring his neck closer; his blood is fantastic. Sucking for a while longer, I finally get what I need. Licking his neck, I watch as it heals instantly. Laying my head down on the pillows, he’s breathing hard. Turning to face me.
“May I?” He asks his eyes growing dark.
“Yes, you give freely to me.” I murmur.
Laying on his side, he comes closer. Moving my hair, I groan. Damn, I need to get a grip. He grazes my neck with his fangs, kissing my neck. He lifts a little, “I can make this pleasurable or pain, how do you want it Spring.” He runs his finger across my bottom lip.
“I don’t want it to hurt.” I murmur closing my eyes. Hearing him chuckle I close them even tighter. His mouth is at my neck and before I know it he’s pierced my skin. Tensing for a second before the pleasure starts. I wrap my arms around him pulling him down on top of me. He doesn’t stop but helps me. I need to release while I feed it must be the same here. He runs his hand down to the top of my jeans. They are undone faster than I can blink. This can’t happen. If we do this, it will lead to other things.
“We can’t Jax, stop.” He growls but doesn’t try to take it any further. Th
is mating thing had kind of got me worked up. Besides we need to talk. Feeling his fangs leave my neck I shiver, while he still lays over me. He dips his head. His lips are so soft; I don’t stop the kiss it’s incredible. Opening my mouth his tongue plunges in, playing with mine, he tastes so damn good. He breaks it off grinning down at me.
“Well now Spring, what do we do?”
“Sleep, we fight the fight tomorrow.” Looking up at him grinning. “Keep your damn hot lips to yourself.” I murmur yawning. He wraps his arms around me, laying my head on his chest I listen to his heart beat. Thunk, thunk, thunk…
The cold wakes me up. Looking around, I’m by myself. The fire has died down casting a dark glow around the room. Standing up I grab my clothes putting them back on. Jax lent me his shirt so that I could sleep comfortably. Holding my bra, I know I can’t put it on. If my wings come out, I’m in trouble. Sticking it in the bag, I walk over and sit on the fireplace. It’s still throwing off some heat but not much. Putting my boots on I wait for Jax. Where did the heck he go? The jerk didn’t even wake me up.
“My Queen, are you in there?” My eyes fly open I run for the door.
“Storm, why are you here?”
“We must go now they need you back at the house.”
“I’ve got to wait for Jax; I don’t know where he went.
“Spring, he’s already at the house.”
“What do you mean he’s at the house?”
“Get your things, I will tell you on the way.” He says.
Turning and heading back into the house. I grab my coat putting it on along with everything else. Reaching down to grab my bag, there’s a note sticking out of the side pocket. Grabbing it I open it up,
Spring, I know there will be hell to pay when we see each other again. I’ll be looking forward to it.
XOXO,
Jax
Crumbling it up, I throw it into the ambers. Putting my pack on I head out the door. Strom is waiting for me.
“Leave the bag; someone will come for it. We are making one hell of an entrance my Queen.” He rears up letting his wings out. They are huge and black. Taking a few steps back I start breathing hard. Mine want to come and but, just not the time. I don’t know how to use them. Breathing through the pain, it settles down. Running over to Storm, I mount. Moving to make sure I’m not in the way of his wings.
