Bulky & Beauteous Page 21

by Mary E Thompson

“Sam? Where are you?” Addi yelled into the phone.

“I told you I had a wedding tonight,” I said, annoyed.

“Oh. I thought you made that up so you didn’t have to hang out with Joey and me.”

I rolled my eyes. Was it ever going to stop? “No, Addi, I didn’t make it up. Did you just call to see if I was lying or did you actually need something?”

“No, Joey and I were talking and we wondered if you wanted to come over for dinner this week. Maybe Tuesday?”

“Tuesday is girls’ night. Unless you’re not going anymore.”

“Oh, I forgot. No, of course I’ll be there. What about Wednesday?”

The bride and groom stood up and were getting ready for their first dance. It was a moment I could not miss.

“I don’t know, Ads. I need to check my book, but I don’t have it here. Can I get back to you later? I really need to go. The couple is about to dance.”

“Oh, yeah, sure. Sorry I bothered you at work.”

I hung up before Addi could lay on the guilt. I knew she wasn’t doing it on purpose, but I felt it anyway. She was blissful, and I was happy for her, but I was still a 29 year old woman with no prospects sitting at a wedding all alone, who would be going home alone. I wasn’t sure I could handle any more happiness thrown in my face.

I moved into position so I could capture Brad and Amanda spin around the dance floor. They looked so happy, gazing into each other’s eyes like the other was their whole world. I wanted that. God, how I wanted that.

Maybe one day I’d find it, but I knew it wasn’t going to be that day.

I felt someone beside me and turned. One of the groomsmen was standing right next to me, so close that I could feel the heat from his body. He was gorgeous. Dark hair, dark eyes, nice build, a bit taller than me.

“Did you need something?” I asked him kindly, wondering if there was a particular shot he wanted me to take.

“Yeah,” he extended his hand. “I’m Cade, and I need your phone number.”

  Thank You!

Thank you so much for reading Bulky & Beauteous. In Buffalo skiing and snowboarding is basically a way of life. I had to write a story that included the sport, even if I’ve never done it! I might learn if I had an instructor like Joey.

Reviews are huge for writers, especially new ones like me. I’d love for you to leave a review of Bulky & Beauteous wherever you buy books. And please check out my other titles!

  About the Author

Mary E. Thompson grew up loving to read, like a good little girl. Many nights she would fall asleep with the flashlight still turned on as she hid under the covers trying to finish the last few pages of a book. As an adult, the light from her ereader means she doesn't need a flashlight, but she still stays up way too late to finish a book.

When Mary's not reading she's playing with her two kids or living out her own romance novel with her hubby. She has a weakness for chocolate, especially when it's paired with peanut butter, and has been known to have a bad day just because there's no chocolate in the house.

Mary grew up in Buffalo, New York and swears she's the only local to never ski or snowboard. Soccer was always her sport, with a couple adventures white water rafting and skydiving to keep things interesting. Mary moved to South Carolina for college but missed Buffalo every day. Yeah she thinks she's crazy, too. She somehow convinced her South Carolina born and bred hubby to return to Buffalo to raise the kids and live out their lives. He’s still not sure what he was thinking.
