She laughed as he rolled them both so that he was on top of her.
“Your mother is on her way.”
He took her bottom lip between his teeth and tugged. Heat surged through her. “She can wait. I have something to prove to my lady.”
He lowered his head, and she felt her heart fill with love for him, enveloping them both for the hours to come.

He waited hours to hear from her. There was nothing, nothing that could be done to contact her. He shouldn’t have left her alone, shouldn’t have allowed her to wander around unmonitored. She was fragile, and the one thing she wanted was to get back with Shane, for him to take his place. He knew that in the end, that is what she really wanted, and he tried not to resent it.
His cell went off, and he looked at the number. He didn’t want any interference from the rest of the family, but they never seemed to understand the mission they had.
“Yes.”
“Marianna’s dead.”
Silence filled the space. “Dead? How?”
“Shane. He shot her to protect the woman.”
Then, she hung up. How his aunt knew he had no idea, but she always seemed to know. Pain pierced his heart as he thought of his mother, the fragile beauty, the crafty woman, the only one he could ever truly love. Who truly loved him. She might have been obsessed with Shane, but he knew in the end, it would be he and his mother, they would be together forever.
The sob caught him off guard as he fell onto his bed. Anger and betrayal, the loss…it all consumed him. They had taken her from him. She was the only one, the only person who understood what drove him. His mother had made him what he was, what she needed. And he had let her down.
He rolled over on his back, tears now streaming down his face as he sobbed. He would not let the Dillons get away with this.
Marianna would be revenged…and he knew just how to strike at the Dillons. He knew just who to hurt. There was one person that every one of those bastards needed. They took his mother. He would take their mate.
