And I’d give up forever to touch you
‘Cause I know that you feel me somehow
You’re the closest to heaven that I’ll ever be
And I don’t wanna go home right now…
For what seems like the hundredth time that day, tears prick at the corners of my eyes. He really has thought of everything. Before I can have an emotional meltdown, the door creaks open to reveal a dark room alight with a million candles. Tea lights, candelabras and pillar candles provide an amazing display of light. Arabian style ceiling drapes hang from the roof, creating a real feel of magic and romance. I couldn’t have done it better myself.
The music turns up a notch as we step into the room. Dozens of people line a red carpet which is leading to a wicker archway dressed in daffodils. It’s only then that my eyes register the faces in the crowd. Marc and Gina are here! Letting out a squeal of happiness, I begin the procession down the aisle. Fighting with Madison for the camera, Marc flashes me the thumbs up sign. I spot of group of girls from work and give them a little wave. This is amazing. Blinking back tears, I look around as we walk. George is frantically handing out tissues to an emotional Dallas while Dolly and Dixie let out squeals of excitement. My mother and Janie have sandwiched themselves around Oliver’s dad, Randy, who I have to admit looks rather pleased with himself and Lianna is wrapped up in the arms of Pablo. The second our eyes meet she bursts into tears. I love you, she mouths, looking proud as punch. Not wanting to lose it, I tear my eyes away from her and that’s when I see him.
Oliver. My Oliver. My kind, handsome, lovely Oliver who I am about to make my husband. Our eyes lock and I can no longer hold it, tears spill down my cheeks as we come to a stop in front of Oliver and the registrar. Handing my bouquet to Lianna, I turn to face Oliver and take his hand in mine. This is it. This is our moment. I want to laugh, I want to cry and more than anything else, I want to be married to this perfect man stood in front of me.
‘Ladies and gentlemen, we are gathered here today to witness and celebrate the wedding of Oliver and Clara…’
The registrar continues to speak to the guests, but all I can focus on is Oliver. I’d like to say that this is the end, but we both know that this isn’t the finish line, this is only just the beginning. The beginning of a very exciting future that I can’t wait to share with him. I look at Oliver and know that he feels it too, that our journey starts with, I do.
