  Mom linked her arm with mine. “You’re an adult, and I’m going to treat you like one. Now, your daddy will freak out, but I’ll distract him.” She waggled her eyebrows at me, suggestively.

  “Ewww, Mom. Come on!” I laughed. “I’m not ready to talk about that with you. I’m not that much of an adult!”

  I kissed her cheek and found Jon. “I talked to my Mom, let’s go to our room for the night,” I whispered in his ear. “Grace’s bridesmaid gift to me is a suite all to ourselves in downtown Indianapolis.”

  Jon’s eyes bugged right out of his head. “Seriously?”

  I nodded and pressed my lips together to keep from laughing at him. He looked like a kid on Christmas morning.

  Jon grabbed my hand and jogged out of the tent, yelling passing goodbyes to his boys and pulling me behind him.

  “Slow down!” I laughed, full on running to try and keep up.

  “Nope,” he replied, panting as he got to his truck.

  “Will Ricky or anybody else you missed give you a hard time for not staying longer?” I asked.

  “Don’t care,” he said, lifting me into the passenger seat and smacking a quick, loud kiss on my lips before closing my door.

  ~~~
  Twenty minutes later, we stood inside a beautiful hotel room. We had stopped at a drug store to get a few overnight necessities like toothbrushes and toothpaste, bottles of water, and a large box of condoms.
  Most definite necessities.
  Jon slid his jacket off his broad shoulders and hung it in the closet. Sitting on the bed, he untied his dress shoes, toeing them off before removing his socks.
  “Come here.” He motioned me to him.
  When I was within reaching distance, he sat me next to him, pulling my legs onto his lap, so that I sat sideways. He slid my heels off my feet, massaging my arches until I moaned.
  “You okay?” he asked.
  I brought my hands to the buttons on his shirt and slid the first through the hole. “Never been better. You?”
  He chuckled, reaching behind me to my zipper. He pulled down slowly. “Oh, I’m good. Although I think we’ll both be better a little later, Sunshine.
  I pulled his dress shirt off, grabbing his undershirt by the hem next and yanking that over his head. I stood, and my dress fell to the floor, pooling at my feet.
  Jon growled and lunged forward, unclasping my bra strap while I loosened his belt buckle.
  Clothes were flying. Bra, belt, pants, panties, briefs. The condom box was ripped open, condoms scattered about as I hurriedly slid one on him. We laughed, falling back onto the bed and slipping under the covers. Jon lay on top of me, keeping his weight on his forearms, hands in my hair.
  “I love you.” Jon looked into my eyes, his laughter fading away. “I will always love you.”
  I shook my head, almost as if I needed to snap out of it. As if the last few days had been a dream. “I have always loved you, Jon. No one but you.”
  Jon brought his mouth to mine and his kiss was tender. My lips were pliant, meeting his. My tongue sought his, but not in the deep, aggressive strokes we so often used to show our desperate passion.
  No, this kiss was careful. It was one to be cherished, so that looking back everything about this time would be remembered. Jon rocked his pelvis gently against mine, and my legs fell open, wrapping around his hips. Our arms held each other, enveloped in our own cocoon as he entered me ever so slowly.
  “I love you,” he whispered as he thrust forward at a tempered pace. The restraint causing his arms to shake as he held himself over me.
  “I love you,” I breathed as he moved again.
  “I love you,” he whispered again, pulling out and then entering me again. So slowly, savoring every second, every touch.
  “I love you,” I sighed, the pleasure building despite the fact that I wanted to hold it back. To press pause—stop time.
  “I. Love. You.” His grunted words were labored, as I felt sweat form on his back.
  I stared into his eyes like I never had allowed myself to do before as I came. Shattering into a million pieces in his arms. And I watched, never breaking contact as he let go, gathering my pieces with his and returning us whole.
  That was how it felt to make love to Jon Roberts.
  Whole. Together. Fulfilled, in body, mind and soul.
  NEW YORK REAL ESTATE was insane.
  My parents agreed that we could live together, a decision based on safety and frugality, with a healthy dose of parental amnesia concerning anything sexual sprinkled in.
  Our studio apartment was literally one room. A bed on one end, a couch, coffee table, and television on the other, and a kitchen in the corner. I used the term kitchen loosely. It was basically an efficiency. Small refrigerator, a shoe box of an oven, out of date microwave, and woefully little counter space. For a chef, this was an issue.
  But New York. We were in New York City.
  Swoon.
  There was one luxury item in this apartment that while it made no sense, we enjoyed. In the tiny bathroom with the shower that fit one and a pedestal sink, sat an old-fashioned, claw-foot tub.
  My theory was that the owner who installed it at some point was a true romantic. That was because the tub was next to a window, with a view of the city, and if you looked at just the right angle, you could even see the Empire State Building.
  I sat there now, surrounded by bubbles, looking out the window, while Jon sat behind me, washing my hair.
  Funny, but a hot guy washing my hair?
  Holy. Shit.
  Instant foreplay.
  “Feel good, Sunshine?” Jon asked as his fingers did all the necessary talking, massaging my scalp.
  “Mmmmm.”
  He chuckled. “How was school?” Culinary and law school started this week. There were classes and books and projects and study sessions galore. It was glorious.
  “Mmmmmmm.”
  He laughed louder as he poured a cup of water over my head, rinsing out the suds. “You happy?”
  “Mmmm hmmmm.”
  “Which do you love more, me or New York City?” He pulled me back, so I was lying against his chest.
  New York City taxis beeped and people bustled around on the streets below us with an energy I had never known in Indiana. I turned my head to the side to look up at him. “Always you, babe. But this tub with this view is a close second.”
  He kissed my forehead, and we sank deeper into the water.
  Life was exhilarating beyond the doors of this tiny apartment. But inside? Life was love, friendships, family, food, and us.
  Our story had just begun.
