Heart Bound Page 10

by Diana Rose Wilson

Ursa felt her throat go dry and gave her head a shake. Bringing him back did not seem like a good idea. If it was so simple, why didn’t he just slip back out? She tried to convey that he was hiding. He was a Kyrie, she was just—

The seeker believes he is in danger, war bride. That is not a place for mortals. Not even Valkyrie-born. He should hide somewhere safe. More softly, he rumbled, If there is another reason he lingers in the gray, we should see why and fix it.

Ursa balled her hands into fists as Victorious agreed with a soft green rush of light in the back of her mind. Nothing about this seemed good. She was just asking to get trapped on the far side for someone who didn’t want to be saved. And fix it? Fix what exactly? What did she know about fixing things? How was she to convey that Beatrix wanted to use him if he were found?

What was worse? Stuck on that side, or facing Beatrix? Or was there another reason for him not to come out?

Victorious whispered softly in the back of her head, You have your weapon and you have your mount and you have your guard. We can fetch him from the far side. Once the Engel heir is safe, we will deal with the Adler whore.

Ursa was certain her warrior heart wasn’t up for any of that.
