"That's crazy, Amber." She took another step back and glance towards the back exit. "You can't prove anything!" She took off and sprinted towards the back door and I ran after her, lunging at her and wrestling her to the floor.
"Get off me Amber! You've lost your mind!"
I sat on top of her. "And to think I trusted you June! I thought you were my friend! How could you do this to me?"
"I didn't do anything!" She screamed kicking out her feet behind me. "You can't prove it."
Just then a bell rang out, and the front door flew open. I turned around. Just whom I was expecting. Beverly.
She walked up to us and looked down at June like she was an insect writhing around on the floor. "Monica ordered vanilla ice cream that day, young lady! I was there, and I heard her. She was also very careful to tell you all about her peanut allergy."
June kept trying to kick me but it was no good for her. Ryan had already called the police and soon a pair of non-uniformed detectives joined us.
"This is her," I said, standing up. "She's the one who killed Monica Musgrave."
They looked at me and nodded. I stood back as they attached the handcuffs to June's wrists, and Ryan put a hand on my shoulder as they led June away.
"I can't believe it," I murmured, once it was just me, Ryan and Beverly left in the store. "I really thought June was on my side."
Ryan looked at me. "You need to be careful who you trust, Amber, and, who you distrust."
I smiled at him sheepishly. "Yeah, you might have a point about that." I put my hands in my pockets and turned away, looking around at the empty store. "I still have one big problem you know. I might be cleared of any wrong doing, technically, but how is the shop's reputation supposed to recover from all this?"
Beverly looked at Ryan. "I might have an idea if it's okay with Ryan that is...."

"So what did we all think of The Velvet Dungeon prequel, ladies?" Beverly called out around to her circle of eager book club devotees. They nodded with varying levels of enthusiasm.
"I thought it was very tame compared the original."
"I loved it! I thought it was even better than the first one."
Beverly turned to look at me. "And you Amber?"
"Hey," I said, reaching down to clear her coffee cup and gelato bowl. "I just serve you ladies, right? I don't have to read these nasty books you entertain yourselves with." I gave her a wink.
"Can I get another coffee?" Beverly asked.
"Of course. Anything for my best customer." I looked around at the bustling store. I'd already had to hire new staff to keep up with the demand. "Now that you're hosting all of your meetings here business has never been better. I owe you Bev."
She looked down. "No, I owe you. At least, I owe Monica, to do one thing right."
I smiled and turned back towards the main counter.
"Hey!" Ryan called out with his trademark grin plastered across his face. "I'm getting swamped over here."
I bumped into him playfully. "You know I really appreciate you helping out while I get back on my feet. Especially for a competitor's business."
He reached out and put an arm around my waist. "I don't care about stuff like that, Amber. We can both be successful. And hey-" he nodded out at the busy shop. "Maybe one day we can even think about... combining." He coughed. "Ahem. Our businesses, of course."
"One step at a time Ryan. One step at a time."
