I prepared carefully and made certain I had the ticket, a lipstick, a spritzer and a compact in my bag. Of course, cash was neatly tucked away in a garter on my thigh. I felt like a school girl on a first date.
The night was warm and bright so I walked to the show caught up in throngs of other revelers and enjoying the rhythm of the city.
I showed my ticket at the door and was directed to the right aisle and seat by an usher. There was a vibrant hum that permeated the theater. Activity, noise and life began to swell into being as people took their seats. The warning bells sounded that the time was near for the show to begin.
I barely noticed when someone sat in the seat beside me. I remember turning and placing my hand on an arm and looking into the bluest eyes. I hadn't seen those eyes in a long time and I couldn't help but smile and laugh. Jon was with me. We clasped hands and held each other's gaze until the lights faded and the orchestra struck up the music. We would find home together. The show must go on!
