“Well Ms. Kylie it was a pleasure caring for you. You take care of yourself. Okay?” the doctor said as he touched Kylie’s hand and prepared to leave the room.

Just then Kylie noticed that the nurse bringing in her chair and preparing to help her out of bed was not nurse Constance. She had to know where she was. She had to say goodbye.

“Excuse me doctor, but where is my nurse?” Kylie asked him before he could get out of the room.

Her heart pounded and she felt anxiety take over her again as she thought about Nurse Constance being fired.

“She had to go to another part of the hospital. She told me to tell you goodbye,” the doctor said before disappearing into the hall.

Kylie’s heart sank with the thought of not being able to say goodbye to the nice nurse who had the warmth of her mother and showed her just as much love. Alicia smirked at Kylie and aunt Tricey rolled her eyes as they walked towards the door. The nurse with the wheelchair helped Kylie to sit down in the chair and get comfortable as she watched aunt Tricey and Alicia with tears in her eyes.

“We are going to get the car. We will be parked out front. You can bring ha down whenever you are ready...we’ll be waitin,.” Aunt Tricey said as she laughed and turned to leave out of the room.

Kylie shivered as the evil, searing echo of aunt Tricey’s laugh sent jolts of panic through her body. The nurse noticed the stunned look on Kylie’s face after aunt Tricey and Alicia left the room and she had to ask Kylie what was wrong.

“Are you okay sweetheart? Do you want me to find Nurse Constance for you?” the lady asked as Kylie looked up at her with tears streaming down her face.

She wanted to say goodbye to nurse Constance more than anything and possibly still get the help she offered. Kylie shook her head yes as she wiped away her tears and tried to smile at the nurse.

“Yes, please find her. I have to say goodbye,” Kylie said as the nurse smiled at her before quickly disappearing into the hall.

Kylie sat there in her chair thinking about how she would get herself out of her current situation as she waited on Nurse Constance to come. She thought about killing herself the first chance she got, but quickly dismissed that option. Next she thought about killing aunt Tricey and Alicia as she had done in her dream, and wondered would she be able to pull it off without being caught. So many thoughts ran through Kylie’s mind as she sat paralyzed in a wheelchair waiting to be taken to her tormentors. She wondered was this all in God’s plan for her or was this just karma coming back to bite her in the ass. She wondered had her mother and father did things in their lives so bad that their sins were visited upon her.

Kylie shook her thoughts off and a huge smile spread across her face as nurse Constance rushed into the room with the other nurse behind her.

“Kylie you’re still here. I’m so glad you didn’t leave yet. I am really sorry about how they talk to you, but believe me when I say that I am going to help you. I already talked to my friend at CPS and the nurse they will be sending to your home is my sister. I made sure of that so that she could watch you. She will protect, I promise. Now here, tuck my number into this pocket in your chair and if you need me, no matter what time you call and I will come,” Nurse Constance said as she kneeled down and hugged Kylie with tears in her eyes.

Her embrace was so warm and loving Kylie didn’t want to let her go as she cried and held on to her shirt.

“Thank you nurse Constance for everything. You have been so good to me and I will never forget that. I hope that one day I can be happy and overcome adversities just like you...I hope,” Kylie said as she hugged Nurse Constance once more before tucking the number away in her chair.

Both Kylie and Nurse Constance had tears streaming down their faces as they made their way to the elevator and down to the first floor. Nurse Constance ensured Kylie that everything would be okay as she fixed her legs into the foot pedals of the wheelchair. As nurse Constance rearranged the blanket across Kylie’s lap she noticed the bruises all up and down her legs, causing her to gasp out loud. Kylie quickly sat up and tried to pull the blanket down to hide the bruises, but Nurse Constance had already seen them.

“What happened to your legs Kylie? Did your aunt do that? Nurse Constance asked, shaking her head in disbelief.

Kylie wanted to yell yes and tell Nurse Constance all of the things aunt Tricey had done to her, but she couldn’t say the words. Instead she just closed her eyes and wept as they exited the elevator.

“Kylie if she did this I can have her arrested right now,” Nurse Constance said stopping the nurse from pushing Kylie towards the front door.

Kylie could see aunt Tricey and Alicia sitting in Alicia’s new red SUV parked in front of the door laughing and joking as if they didn’t have a care in the world.

Suddenly, Kylie felt a surge of hatred she had never felt and she knew what she would do to end her pain. She would make her dream come true and kill aunt Tricey and Alicia, ending it all. Kylie didn’t want to get nurse Constance involved in her bullshit, unless she had to because she was afraid she would be hurt. She really didn’t care what happened to herself at that point, just as long as she could see those evil bitches suffer before she died. At that moment Kylie buried her light deep inside and replaced it with something dark.

“No, I’m fine nurse Constance. Everything will be fine. I am going to handle this. I will call you when the time comes,” Kylie said as she hugged Nurse Constance once more before the nurse pushed her towards the door.

Once outside of the hospital doors, Kylie looked back to see nurse Constance standing there with tears streaming down her face. Kylie waved goodbye before the nurse picked her up and put her into the car and then put her chair in the back. Kylie watched nurse Constance walk away with her head down as aunt Tricey turned to look at her.

“You ready to go home lil’ wanch?” Aunt Tricey asked as she smiled that cold, evil smile at Kylie.

That smile always made the hair on the back of Kylie’s neck stand up, but not this time. Kylie was so consumed with anger she didn’t feel fear anymore. The only thing she could feel was hate and a deep, burning desire for revenge. She was determined to turn the tables in this situation and show aunt Tricey that pain went both ways. As soon as she was able to walk again, she was going to be their worst nightmare. However, she knew that she would have to endure more pain before that happened.

She didn’t care though. She was willing to take whatever pain and hurt they could send her way just to see aunt Tricey and Alicia beg for their lives. Their day was coming, and that gave Kylie strength and hope. Suddenly, she looked back at aunt Tricey with so much fire and hate in her eyes that she made aunt Tricey blink. No more was she that scared, broken little lamb. It was time for Kylie to be a wolf and eat aunt Tricey’s ass alive. Kylie smirked at aunt Tricey as she stared her down from across the seat.

“Yeah I’m ready to go, but the question is are you ready,” Kylie said as she turned to look out of the window, leaving aunt Tricey sitting there looking dazed.

  Chapter 9

The ten minute ride from Regional One in downtown Memphis to aunt Tricey’s house in North Memphis seemed like an eternity. Kylie stared out of the window at all of the cars speeding by as aunt Tricey and Alicia talked loudly over the blasting R&B music coming from the radio. Kylie ignored the sporadic bitch and slut remarks Aunt Tricey and Alicia hurdled at her as she focused on the inner strength and malice she knew she had. Kylie channeled the Lakea spirit she had in her and decided that she would give her abusers no more satisfaction in seeing her hurt. No matter what they threw at her Kylie would show no pain or fear. She would just hold it all in until it was her turn.

When they pulled into aunt Tricey’s driveway, Kylie felt anxiety for what she knew was about to happen and for all that she would do if she got the chance. The thought of actually killing aunt Tricey and saving the world from having to deal with such a sick, hateful person made Kylie nervous, yet happy. Kylie felt so much spite at that momen
t it didn’t even matter to her as aunt Tricey and Alicia prepared to get out of the car while taunting her.

“Oh shit freak you can’t get yoself out can you. Ha!” Alicia said as she got out of the car and closed the door, walking around to help aunt Tricey out.

Kylie just stared at Alicia with hate as she helped Aunt Tricey to get all of her fat ass out of the truck and slammed the door behind her. Aunt Tricey wobbled back to peer at Kylie through the window with a vindictive smile on her face.

“No, you can’t get out can you lil’ bitch? Well too bad. We gonna let yo crippled ass sit out here for a while in this 90 degree Memphis, mid-August heat. Bet yo funky ass will be grateful and get some act right then,” Aunt Tricey said as she rolled her eyes at Kylie.

Before Kylie knew it her anger had consumed her as she sat forward and put her face on the glass. She stared into aunt Tricey’s eyes and showed no fear, no pain. All that aunt Tricey could see in Kylie’s eyes was hate and the promise to make her hurt some day.

“Bitch, I don’t give a fuck. I’d rather be out here in the heat than in that funky, nasty ass house with you!” Kylie yelled and punched the glass right in front of aunt Tricey’s face.

Kylie’s sudden bravery and defiance made Alicia furious as she snatched the door open and smacked her across the face. Kylie slowly looked up at Alicia with the most vile, disgusted, hateful look on her face that Alicia quickly slammed the door. Kylie was so filled with hate she didn’t even feel the slap across her face. Her hate mixed with all of the pain and hurt she felt had pushed her almost to the point of insanity. Nothing they could do to her at that second mattered.

Kylie let out a shrill, ominous laugh as she wiped the blood from the corner of her mouth and smeared it on the window. Aunt Tricey and Alicia stood there staring at Kylie with confusion written on their faces as she continued to laugh and stare them down. They couldn’t understand what was going on with Kylie. They didn’t understand the transformation their abuse and hate had caused in her. Aunt Tricey peered at Kylie through the window and saw a familiar flicker in her eyes that made her shiver. She saw Lakea in Kylie’s eyes. She saw Felicia in Kylie’s eyes. She saw all of the things she hated, but feared at the same time, staring right back at her.

“This lil’ bitch has lost her mind. Let’s go, fuck her,” Aunt Tricey said as she turned to wobble in the house behind Alicia.

“Get yoself out if you get hot crazy, crippled bitch!” Alicia yelled as she entered the front door.

When aunt Tricey got to the front door she stopped to look back at Kylie with a worried look on her face. She could see that something had changed in Kylie, and she didn’t like it. Now Kylie was acting just like her mother and grandmother if not worse. She recognized that fighting spirit and indignant attitude, and at that moment deep down she knew that soon things would change.

Kylie waved at aunt Tricey from the car with the same animus look that she had given her before, causing her to quickly go into the house and close the door behind her. Kylie laughed and embraced herself as she thought about aunt Tricey’s face when she cursed her out. It felt good to pay those evil bitches back. Kylie was more determined than ever to go through with her plan.

Kylie looked outside to see if there was anyone close by who could help her out of the car and in her chair. She peered as far as she could see, up and down the block, but no one was out to help her. The mid-day Memphis in August heat was overpowering as the car began to heat up and Kylie felt sweat pouring from her body. She knew that she had to get herself out of that car even if she couldn’t get to her chair.

Kylie opened the door of the truck and the hot, muggy, but refreshing August air hit her with force, taking her breath away. She had to stop for a minute and take short shallow breaths as her head started to spin. After a few seconds, Kylie felt better so she extended her arms grabbing the handle over the door. She used one hand to hold on and the other to put her limp, lifeless legs outside of the car.

Kylie’s body seemed to weigh a ton as she held on the handle and her legs dangled in the air. After a few minutes of this Kylie couldn’t hold anymore and she crumbled to the ground with her legs folded awkwardly beneath her. The impact from the fall stunned Kylie for a second causing her to cry out, but she quickly regained her composure and began dragging herself forward.

The ground was so hot under Kylie she felt it sear her skin as she drug her body over the concrete. Suddenly, Kylie’s head began to spin again and she felt as if she would pass out.

“No Kylie you have to be calm. You can do this,” she said to herself as her body began to shake violently.

Without Kylie’s permission darkness found her again as she passed out three feet from the pathway to the porch. When Kylie woke up she was being carried on to the porch and sat gently in her chair. She flutter her eyes open and peered right into Brian’s face as he hugged her and told her it would be alright.

“It’s okay Kylie. Are you hurt?” Brian asked as he wipe blood off Kylie’s cheek.

He looked so sad and sincere as he fixed Kylie’s clothes and smoothed her frizzed hair with his hands. Kylie really loved her cousin Brian because despite being Alicia’s son he was nothing like her. He always loved Kylie and would help her even at the risk of being beat himself. He was good to Kylie and she appreciated that.

Kylie managed a faint smile as she looked at Brian and assured him she was fine.

“I’m okay cousin. Nothing they can do to me can hurt me anymore. I’m done letting them cause me hurt and pain. No matter what they say or do, I will not let them see me cry. My day is coming,” Kylie said to Brian as she pulled herself up in her chair.

Brian looked at Kylie with pride and admiration before hugging her tight.

“I will protect you Kylie, I promise,” Brian whispered in her ear before standing up and getting behind her chair to take her inside.

Kylie looked back at the street. The cars whizzing by and the kids now playing across the street as Brian pushed her into the house and her hell began. As soon as Kylie entered the front door, she noticed that a lot had changed inside. Someone had cleaned up the piles of trash and debris in the house in anticipation of the CPS workers and other officials who would be in and out of the house. There was also a hospital bed in the living room next to Aunt Tricey smelly, dirty chair, and a bed-side table with all of Kylie’s medications lined up.

Kylie turned to peer right into Alissa’s bruised and swollen face as Brian wheeled her towards the bed. Before Kylie knew it Alissa had jumped up from the floor and began punching her and scratching her while she yelled madly.

“You bitch look what you did to my face!” Alissa yelled as she continued to hit Kylie who was trying to fight back from her chair.

Brian grabbed Alissa and swung her to the floor as he positioned his body between her and Kylie. Rage overcame Kylie from Alissa snuffing her. Kylie began to scream and tried to roll her chair past Brian to get to Alissa.

“Bitch fuck you. You fat jealous skank. I’m glad I beat yo ass!” Kylie yelled as Brian pushed her back and stared at her in disbelief.

The commotion from Kylie and Alissa’s fight brought Aunt Tricey and Alicia wobbling back into the room from the kitchen where they were feeding their fat faces. Alicia rushed in cursing and pushed Brian into the wall, making him let Alissa go. Aunt Tricey wobbled over to her chair and got a front row seat as Alissa rushed over to Kylie again and began hitting her with Alicia cheering her on while blocking Brian.

“Beat her ass Alissa. Just don’t hit her in the face anymore since the fucking nurse coming tomorrow. Punch that bitch in the arms and chest!” Alicia yelled as she used her weight to pin Brian to the wall so that he couldn’t help Kylie.

Kylie grabbed hold of Alissa’s fat arm when she went to hit her again and twisted it causing her to fall to her knees. When Alissa fell, Kylie unleashed a combination of punches into her fat, ugly face as she yelled and cursed at the top of her lungs. Alissa was helpless as Kylie wedge
d her fat body between the foot pedals of her wheelchair and wrapped her hands in her hair, punching her repeatedly in the face and head.

Alicia yelled for Alissa to get up and beat Kylie’s ass as she struggled to keep Brian pinned to the wall. Brian squirmed and tried to push his fat mama off of him while yelling curses at Alissa, threatening to beat her ass if she didn’t leave Kylie alone. After seeing Alissa on the losing end of her attack Aunt Tricey quickly jumped up and wobbled over, grabbing Kylie in a choke hold.

The musk coming from under Aunt Tricey’s arms and the extreme weight of the massive blobs of flesh pressing on her throat made Kylie feel as if she would pass out. However, she still didn’t let go over Alissa’s hair or stop punching her in the face and head.

“Let her go lil’ bitch or I will kill yo ass,” Aunt Tricey said as she increased the pressure on Kylie’s neck.
