“I’ll have to show you how to be patient then. It’ll make the pleasure all the better.” He walks faster practically dragging me behind him.

And he says I need to learn patience.

“Wow. You have an amazing house. Love the colors. I’m guessing you didn’t decorate it yourself.” I’m not sure why I’m bringing this up now. Well, I do; it’s because I’m nervous. I don’t know how to do this with someone else. I’ve only ever been with Caleb, and I was with him for almost a year before we had sex because I wanted to make sure he was the right guy. Any guy who can wait for the girl he wants is Mr. Right. I don’t believe in that BS about a guy has needs and should be able to get it elsewhere until you put out. No, if he really loves me and wants to be with me he’ll wait and get to know me on a personal level and let the sexual part happen when both parties are ready.

“Marissa, look at me. Don’t be nervous. We don’t have to do anything you don’t want to do. This isn’t about me getting another notch on my bedpost. I’m not that kind of guy. I’m willing to wait and we can watch a movie and just hang out. I don’t ever want to make you feel like you have to do something you’re not ready for.”

Where’s the bravado I had earlier when I was trying to seduce him. Why can’t I be that girl all the time? “Sorry, it’s not that I don’t want it. I’m scared. I don’t want to get my heart broken, and I don’t know how to have sex and not let my heart be involved. I’m not one of those woman who sleep around.”

“Let’s go watch a movie.” He doesn’t wait for me to respond, but pulls me into his room, grabs some boxers and a shirt out of a drawer then tells me to go into the bathroom and change into something a little more comfy than jeans.

When I return from changing, he has a movie all set up for us.

  “What are we watching?”

“You’ll have to wait and find out. No peeking either while I’m in the bathroom changing. I want it to be a surprise. Make yourself comfortable on the bed.”

I can’t even begin to guess what movie we are going to watch. Comedy, action, mystery or horror? The list is endless.

Crawling into his bed, the first thing I notice is how comfortable the mattress is, and then how amazingly soft the sheets are. I could fall asleep and sleep comfortably in this bed.

It doesn’t take Brad long to join me in bed. Once we are both comfortable, he hits play and I’m shocked to see The Princess Bride playing. I know it’s a kid movie, but it’s one of my favorites and I can almost quote it word for word. Apparently, so can Brad.

Half way through the movie I get brave. I know what I want and I want Brad. There isn’t anything wrong with sleeping with the man you are falling for. I have nothing to worry about because he wants me too.

Since we’re already cuddling I slowly slide my hand up his chest then back down. As I get to his boxers I slide my fingers beneath the waistband.

“Beautiful we don’t have to do anything.”

“I know, but I want to. I’m ready.” I stroke his cock.

“God, that feels good, but you should probably stop. I don’t want to ruin the night before it starts.”

Before I can say anything he has us flipped over and I’m now at his mercy. “Now this is better,” he says as he slowly lifts my shirt over my head.

I raise my hands to cover myself, but he grabs them. “Don’t cover yourself. You are beautiful. Let me see all of you.”

I’m not used to being naked with the lights on. I’ve never been a wild one in bed. Caleb and I always had sex with the lights off and in the missionary position. Fuck. Why the hell am I thinking about him while I’m in bed with Brad?

“Sorry, I’ll try not to be shy.”

Without missing a beat, he slowly kisses down my neck to my chest. “These deserve some attention,” he whispers then he sucks one of my nipples into his mouth.

Oh my god, my nipples have never been this sensitive before.

  “I need more,” I whisper.

“What do you want? Tell me.”

“I want you inside of me. Now,” I don’t hesitate to ask for it because we both know what it is I want.

“Condom,” he says before rolling off of me and grabbing a box from the nightstand.

  An unopened box at that.

I grab it from him. “Let me do that for you.” I rip open the package and roll it on him as fast as I can. I’m not in the mood to go slow.

“Now where were we?” he asks.

“Oh I don’t know. I think we were about to fall asleep.”

He grabs my leg and instant slides into me. “Are you sure you want to go to sleep now?”

“N….n….no,” I manage to say as he pumps in and out of me at a slow pace.

My climax builds and before I know it we’re both calling out each other's name.

“Wow.” I don’t really know what else to say.

“That about sums it up. I’ll be right back.” He gets out of bed and goes into the bathroom.

Before he can even get back into bed, sleep overtakes me.

  Chapter Five

Rolling over stretching I realize the bed is empty. I know for a fact that Brad was in bed with me last night unless I dreamed everything. Looking around I know I didn’t dream up the knock your socks off sex because I’m in Brad’s bed.

“Good morning, beautiful. Hope you’re hungry, I made breakfast.” Brad startles me out of my daydream about last night and how wonderful it was.

“I’m starved.” As I sit up the sheet slips down and I realize I have no clothes on. I reach for the covers.

“Don’t,” he says as he stalks toward me. He grabs the sheets and pulls them off the bed. Then he’s on me. It isn’t slow and sweet like last night. It’s like he’s craving his next hit.

Without missing a beat, I leisurely drag my hands down his chest. At the waistband of his boxers, I slip my fingers inside and tease him. I pull down on his boxers, letting his cock spring free then use my feet to push them all the way down so he can kick out of them.

He pulls my hand away from him, “None of that right now. I want to feast on you for breakfast. You’re much tastier than what I made.”

Slowly he kisses down my body stopping to play with my nipples. While he sucks on one, he’s rolling the other nipple between his thumb and forefinger. Then he moves down my stomach and presses a kiss on my belly before burying his face between my legs.

“Oh. God. Don’t stop.” I can’t believe he’s bringing me to climax so fast.

He pumps his fingers into me while sucking on my clit. I’m so close to coming.

“I’m coming. Don’t stop.” Before I can even come down from my high he has a condom on and is pushing inside of me. It doesn’t take long for us both to find our release together.

Once we both get our breathing under control Brad says, “Let’s go eat the cold breakfast I made us.”

  “Can we shower first?”

“Sure let’s go. It’s not like the food will get any colder.”

We get out of bed and he swats me on the ass.

Once out of the shower, we head down to the kitchen and decide to toss the food in the trash and make something else. I hate that we are throwing away the food, but I’m not a fan of soggy waffles and cold eggs. When you heat them up they are rubbery.

Cooking breakfast with Brad is a new experience. I’m not used to having someone help me out.

“So what are your plans for the day?” Brad asks.

“I don’t really have any. I’d like to sit down and write a little and then I’m game for whatever. What did you have planned?”

“I was hoping to spend the day with you out by the lake. Today is my day to relax and do whatever I want.”

“You had me at relaxing. I can use another lazy day. Someone wore me out again last night.”

“Well let's clean up breakfast and head out to the lake.” I love that he doesn’t rely on his mom to clean up after us. I know people who won’t clean up after themselve
s because they have a cleaning lady and that’s what they pay her to do. I still think they should do some cleaning up after themselves.

“Do you mind if I write for a little while? I’d really like to see where it goes with this book. I know we didn't talk much about it, but I’d love to try to make writing my job. It’s a dream job for me.”

“You can write for however long you want. I’m a big boy and can keep myself entertained. I have some medical journals I’d like to read.”

Since I don’t have my laptop with me and I’m too lazy to type on my phone, I get a pen and some paper from Brad and sit down to write. Before long, Brad’s setting sandwiches and chips in front of me.

“Oh shit, I lost track of time didn’t I?”

“It’s not a big deal. I got lost in my journals also.”

I sure hope he isn’t just saying that to make me feel better.

“I tend to get lost in my fantasy land when I sit and write or read. It’s something I’ve always enjoyed doing.”

“I love seeing you so passionate about this. One day you’ll have out hundreds of books and you’ll be telling your grandkids about how you became a New York Times bestselling author.”

That's the dream. But not everyone can be a New York Times Bestseller. “I don’t know about that. My goal is to write books that make people feel. I want to pull emotions out of people. If my stories can help even one person then it’s worth it.”

“They will. You just need to have a little faith in yourself.”

“I’m working on that and having you by my side is going to really help.” I lean over and kiss him firmly on the lips.

“So what do you want to do with the rest of the day?”

“Let's head to Multnomah Falls and hike.”

“Let's do it. Do we need to stop by your place and get you some more clothes?”

  “Yes.”

It doesn’t take us long to get on the road and we end up going to Oneonta George where I’ve never been before. The hike to the waterfall is amazing. First we climb over logs then walk between two rock walls. Before we can see the waterfall, we come upon a pool of water. Depending on the runoff, we may have to swim to get across, but Brad can touch so I get on his back and he walks us across. Now we can see actual waterfall, I am beyond words for how amazing it is. The water is cold but crystal clear. How often do you find water this clear?

We swim to the waterfall and take pictures with us in front of it.

“This was an amazing idea to come here instead of Multnomah Falls,” I say

”I’ve heard good things about it and figured we should check it out together.”

“I couldn’t have planned a better day. Thank you.”

  “You’re welcome, beautiful.”

Today would be a day that I wouldn’t soon forget. Brad has slowly, but surely worked his way into my heart. I just hope he’s there to catch me when I fall.

  Chapter Six

  Two Weeks Later

Things have been going so well with Brad the last couple of weeks. We spend as much time together as possible. I find that I love his place. It’s perfect for me to curl up and read or write. I haven’t always been a writer, but I’ve been dabbling in it for a few years, and I’m serious about pursuing it as a living. If I don't make enough money then I’ll think of going back to my day job, but I’d really like to be able to stay home and write. I always thought it would be a great career for when I have kids.

Tonight he’s taking me out. He won’t tell me where we’re going, but he told me to dress up. I don’t do dressing up well so I’m struggling with what to wear. I figure I can’t go wrong with a little black dress, which has gotten me through a lot.

I’m just finishing with my makeup when the bell rings. Shit, he’s early. Normally this wouldn’t bother me because I’m always early also, but this makeup shit is killing me. I don’t ever wear it and it’s taken me an hour and I think it looks like I have two black eyes. Now I don’t have time to remove it.

“Coming,” I yell as I rush to answer the door. He probably can’t even hear me.

Opening the door, I realize that I’m still wrapped in my bath towel. Fuck, I’m going to make us late, “Hey, come in. Make yourself at home. I’ll be ready in ten minutes. Sorry I’m not ready yet.”

“You really shouldn’t open the door like that. How do you know I wasn’t some murderer?”

“I do have a peep hole.”

“Did you even use it?” he questions.

Shit, I didn’t, but how do I tell him that I knew it was him without using it? “Umm, no. I just knew it was you.”

“Okay. I’m not going to get on you for it. Go and hurry. I can’t wait for you to see what I have planned for the night.”

Rushing into my room, I grab my dress and throw it on. I don’t need to look in a mirror to see what it looks like because I did that earlier. Now all I have to do is find my shoes and put on a necklace and some earrings, and I’m good to go.

“Ready,” I say as I walk into the living room.

  “Wow, you look absolutely stunning.”

“Thank you. You look pretty nice yourself if I do say so myself.”

“Thank you, now let's get this party started,” he says as he leads me out of the house.

We don’t have far to go since we’re heading into downtown.

“No way. We’re going to the Portland City Grill?”

“Is that a bad thing?” he asks.

“No, I’ve always wanted to come here but never got the chance.”

“Then the honor’s all mine to be another first for you. I want as many firsts with you as I can get.”

“I want as many firsts with you too, but even doing things with you that I’ve already done is like doing them for the first time.”

He must not care that we’re standing in the middle of a crowded downtown sidewalk because he pulls me to him and kisses me.

“You are the perfect woman for me. I’m so happy that we met. Thank God for Hawaii.”

“Yes, now let's go eat. I’m starving. I missed lunch again today because I got so caught up in my story. I love how nicely it’s moving along.”

“I’m going to have to hire you a babysitter so you’ll always have food to eat and clean clothes to wear.”

“I’d take offense to that, but it’s true. I’d rather get lost in fantasyland than do laundry and eat. One day I’ll reap the rewards of all this hard work.”

Once we’re inside the building, which houses the restaurant, I realize it’s on the thirtieth floor. I have this fear of elevators, and I don’t like that a lot of buildings have the stairs closed unless there's an actually emergency. I’d rather walk the stairs than take elevators, but since Brad’s with me I’ll have him keep me occupied.

Once we get off the elevator, I stop to enjoy the view while Brad sees if our table is ready.

“Our table’s ready,” he says when he returns. “I’m sure you’ll still have an incredible view.”

“The view is always incredible when I’m with you.”

“Haha, smart ass,” he says as he gently swats my ass when I walk past him.

“Hey, you’re gonna get us kicked out of here for doing stuff like that.”

“Not likely, now get moving, lady. I want to eat sometime in the near future.”

This right here is why I love this man. Everything is so easy with him. He doesn’t get mad when I spend all day in my jammies writing or reading. He encourages me to find things that make me happy. I’ve found an incredible amount of healing in writing.

“What can I start you off with to drink?” our waiter asks.

“Cuvée Dom Perignon, please,” Brad says.

I don’t drink champagne, but I don’t tell him because I don’t want to ruin the moment.

“I’ll bring that by for you to sample, sir.”

“Before you say it, I know you don’t drink often, but tonight’s special and I want to celebrate.”

  I w
on’t take away his moment and who knows, I may love this champagne. I’ve only had the cheap stuff and only once at that. “What are we celebrating? Did one of your patients go into remission?”

“Well, what we’re celebrating is still unknown. I just have high hopes that we’ll be celebrating tonight.”

That's vague if I’ve ever heard vague before. What could he possibly mean?

“Let’s figure out what we want and then we’ll talk more,” he says. “I can see that you have a lot of questions.” He reaches over and holds my hand.

One thing I love is he doesn’t seem to be able to stop touching me. “I see a lot of things that look good. The creamy crab and avocado rice wraps, the spicy yellowfin tuna rice wrap. Then for dinner, the Wagyu Top Sirloin and King Salmon Oscar sound delicious. Though I don’t know if I’ll be able to finish it all. Might have a good breakfast also.”

“All of that sounds good. We could probably share it all unless you’d like me to get a main dish also and we can share that, too.”

“We can share. There will be plenty of food for the both of us, but get something you want if you want something else. I don’t want you to suffer through eating what I want.”

“Here's your champagne, sir. Are you ready to order now?” the waiter asks.

“Yes we’re ready. We’ll take the creamy crab and avocado rice wraps, the spicy yellowfin tuna rice wrap and the Wagyu Top Sirloin and King Salmon Oscar,” Brad orders for us.

‘”Will that be everything, sir?” the waiter asks.

  “Yes, thank you,” Brad says.

The waiter turns and leaves us.

“Marissa, I know we haven’t been seeing each other long and everything with us has moved fast, but when I picture my life moving forward, I see you in it and with kids one day. It's too soon for me to ask you to marry me, but the next best step is this.” He hands me a box.

If it isn’t a ring then what is it?

  “Go on and open it.”

Ripping into the paper since I’m impatient, I find a beautiful butterfly box. “Oh my god, this is beautiful. It looks handmade.”

“It is. I bought it down at the Saturday market. There’s a secret compartment.” He shows me how to open it.
