"I'm leaving. You're just like I thought. A tyrant who has to get his way."
"Eve, wait."
"Why should I?" As I turned away from him I spotted a picture frame on the night stand by the bed. I walked over to it and picked it up. The picture was of a very young woman with long black hair and a little boy who couldn't be more than five. "Who is this?"
Adams slowly walked over to me and took the frame out of my hands. He sat on the bed and placed it back on the table. "It's my wife and son."
Anger rose up inside me. How dare he try to make a move on me when he has a wife and kid at home? "What? Oh my God, you're married. And you have a kid? You're a real piece of work. You're a worse human being than I thought you were. I'm out of here!"
He grabbed my hand before I had a chance to move. "Let me explain."
"Explain what? That you're a lying, cheating bastard who can't keep it in his pants."
"Just listen, don't talk. Please." His voice had changed to almost a whisper as he took the picture in his hands and began to speak. "Ten years ago I was on a business trip. It was right after my company took off. I had been flying all over the states to meet with new clients. I purchased a private jet so I could get around faster, so I wouldn't have to wait around and waste time at airports. My wife and son wanted to surprise me for my birthday because. I was going to be away for a few days. "
"I had the jet so she chartered a small plane to take her and our son to where I was having the meeting. She was going to surprise me at my hotel room." Tears fill his eyes and he looked down at the picture. He tried to speak, but couldn’t. I've never seen him like this. He was always in control of himself every time I saw him. And from what his associates think of him, this is not the ruthless man everyone thought him to be.
He cleared his throat and continued. "I didn't know they were coming to see me. I could have sent the jet to pick them up." He finally broke down with tears streaming down his face. "It's all my fault."
My heart broke for the man in front of me. What could he have done that has him feeling so guilty? I knelt in front of him. I took the picture out of his hands to place it back on the table. I took his hands in mine. They're wet from his tears. "What Adam? What was all your fault?"
"They died because of me. The plane wasn't taken care of as it should have been. It was simple up keep. I should have been there that day. If I was home with them and not on some stupid business trip they would still be alive. It's my fault they're gone."
I collapse against the night stand. Tears streaming down my face. "I'm so sorry Adam."
I knelt in between his legs. I took his hands away from his tear stained face and gently kissed his lips. "I'm so sorry." I kissed his forehead and held him close. "And I'm sorry for all those horrible things I said to you."
Adam grabbed my face and kissed me with abandon. He pulled away. "Eve, I haven't been with anyone since my wife died. I have had only few girlfriends, but nothing that lasted more than a few months. I haven't had sex with any of them. Every time I tried I just couldn’t go through it. The guilt eats away at my insides. That's why I’m always on edge. After my wife and son died my business was all I had. My anger was all I had to hold on to. I didn't want to look at another woman. I only went out because friends set me up. My charming personality with woman is just a front. I can't appear to be weak in front of anyone. Eve, when I laid eyes on you something inside me changed. I'm not saying it's love at first sight, but I feel something different when I'm next to you."
I bring my lips to his neck and run my lips along his jawline. I whisper in his ear. "Adam."
He closed his eyes. "Yes?"
I glided my lips along his ear. "Adam, make love to me."
He immediately jumped off the bed nearly knocking me down. "I don't want your pity Eve. That's not why I poured my heart out to you. So, you don't have to have sex with me. I know you can't stand the sight of me."
I jumped to my feet. I grabbed his arm turning him around to face me. "Is that what you think? You think I would just offer up my body because I feel sorry you. "
"Well, isn't that what you're doing?"
I took his hand in mine. "No, it isn't." I let his hand drop to his side. I walk over to the bed and sat on the edge. "Look, since we're bearing our souls I have a confession. I am scared. Scared of not finding the love I yearn for. Scared that when I do, I'll do something to drive him away. I've had many boyfriends, but none have given me the feeling inside that Noelle is always talking about. I was beginning to think that feeling butterflies and weak knees was just something in other people's heads. That is until I met you. You make me feel like no other man ever has. I don't know how to talk to you. I can't even think straight around you. You scare me."
He rushed over to me and knelt between my legs. He claimed my lips with his. His hands moved across my back. He grabbed my ass and pulled me close to him. My dress rose. My moist folds rubbing against his hard stomach. His shirt was wet from the juices of my sensitive core. My thong underwear not giving much of a barrier.
Adam lifted my dress above my hips and slid his hands up my legs. He pulled the thin fabric from body and threw it on the floor. He kissed the inside of my thigh. His licked me. His warm breath sending chills through my body. He looked up at me. His eyes still red from pouring his heart out to me. He smiled and I smiled back. He lowered his head. His lips against my wet pussy is all that I can stand. I throw my head back in sublime ecstasy. "Oh, Adam."
"You taste so good princess. I want to taste every inch of you."
My body tensed and I shuddered uncontrollably. I ran my hands in dark hair. "Yes, Adam."
He rose and started to unbutton his shirt. He's not going fast enough for me. I sat up, grabbed the fabric and pulled. Buttons flew all over the floor. I stripped the torn garment from his strong muscular body. "Holy biceps Batman!"
He laughed. "You like?"
"I like very much." Seeing him with no shirt drove me insane with need. I've never seen a man with a body like his before. He had a better body than most guys half his age.
I pulled zipper on his pants down and his dick sprung free. I was in total awe of this man's body. "Did I say holy biceps? Wow."
He looks down at himself giving me a playful smile. "I'll take that as a compliment."
I point at his hard penis. "And I'll take that inside me, now."
"Well, you don't have to ask me twice." He lifted my legs out from under me and threw me on the bed.
I laughed. "Are you sure that's gonna fit?" I slowly open my legs for him.
"We'll make it fit." He climbed on top of me. He was heavy. Really heavy. At least two hundred pounds. He weighed more than my mere one hundred and twenty-five pound frame. But, I feel safe under his big strong body. He plunged himself into me causing me to cry out in pleasure. His thick cock filling me to capacity.
He didn’t move until I got used to the fullness of him. He slid in and of me slowly at first, then he picked up the pace. Pushing harder and deeper with each thrust. "You're mine now Eve. No one but me will ever touch you again."
I ran my hands through his dark hair while I look him in those deep chocolate eyes. I instantly fell in love with. "I'm yours from this moment on."
He kissed my neck and he stroked me faster and faster and I knew his release was near. "God, Eve." He fills me with his warm seed. He laid there for a quiet moment.
As we lay in each other’s arms I realized we hadn't used any protection. I jumped up hitting his head with my own.
He sat up and placed his hand over his forehead. "Ow. What's the matter?"
I sat at the edge of the bed on the brink of tears. I don't want to get pregnant right now. What if it didn't work out between us? What if he's too heartbroken to have another child? What if he just doesn't want to have a baby with me? "I'm so sorry Adam."
He placed his hand on my shoulder and turned me to face him. "For what?"
"I don't have boyfriend and I hadn’t planned on having o
ne anytime soon."
"So, what's the problem?" He sat back against the headboard sighing heavily. "Oh, I see, you're having second thoughts about us."
I look down at my hands, ashamed of being so careless. "No, I'm not."
"Well, what is it then? Spit it out."
"I'm not on any birth control and we didn't use any protection."
"Is that what you're worried about? Do you think I would get you pregnant and not take care of my child?” He inched close to me and pulled me onto his lap. He tipped my chip up so I'm looking at him. "Eve, I would never do that to you. Or any woman for that matter. I said you were mine and I meant it. If you were to get pregnant it would be a blessing not an obligation."
A tear fell from my eye. He wiped it away with his thumb. "I just don't want you to think I was trapping you with a baby."
"Eve, I am a grown man. If I wanted to use protection I would have."
"You mean you want to get me pregnant?"
"Well no, but if it does happen I would be happy."
I was confused. Why would be happy after all he had been through? "You would?"
"Eve, I have been through a world of hurt and guilt. I realized the other day when I saw you sitting across from me at the conference table, they wouldn't want me to sad and depressed for the rest of my life, thinking about what should have been. I knew you were the one for me. Even though you had insulted and screamed at me."
I laugh at the memory of me calling him a mindless monkey. "I'm so sorry."
He held me tight. "It's okay princess. I like my women feisty. Keeps me on my toes."
"What about your colleagues? Aren't you afraid of what they'll say about us? They'll probably think I'm a gold-digging hoochie and you're only with me because you're going through some midlife crisis thing."
He laughed and it echoed throughout the room. "How old do you think I am, sixty? I only turned forty three days ago. How old are you?"
I looked at him and smiled. "I'm twenty-four. Today."
He slid me off his lap and put on his pants. He walked into the other room. I crawled over to the edge of the bed where I picked up his shirt wrapping it around my naked body. He returned with a box in his hands. The small box was wrapped in shiny silver paper adorned with a silver bow. He placed the present in my hands. "Happy Birthday."
"You went to the store that fast?"
He chuckled. "No. After you stormed out of the party last night, I went back into the main hall. I wrote a check out and gave it to Noelle. She told me it was your birthday today and I should make it a special day."
"Did she? Remind me to throttle her for butting in my business."
"I'm glad she did. I did have a nice evening planned for us besides dinner here in the hotel. I didn't mean to make a spectacle of myself and ruin your day."
"You didn't ruin my day. I'm the one at fault. I'm so stubborn. I didn't give you a chance at all."
"It okay. Now, open your present."
I ripped the wrapping paper apart. I opened the black velvet jewelry box. My jaw dropped. Inside is a big silver snowflake charm with a diamond in the middle.
Adam took the chain out of the box clasping it around my neck. "There. What do you think?"
I started to cry again. I wiped my eyes with the sleeve of his shirt. "It's beautiful. But, it's too expensive Adam. I can't accept this."
"Yes, you can. And you will. Besides it matches that beautiful tiara you wore last night. I was kind of disappointed when you weren't wearing it tonight."
"That would have been a little much don't you think?"
He took my face in his hands and kissed my lips gently. "Nothing is too much for my princess. I plan on giving you many more presents."
"But, I already have the most precious gift I could ever ask for."
"It's only a necklace."
"I wasn't talking about the necklace."
"Well, what gift are you talking about? I haven't given you anything else."
"Yes, you have."
"I have? What gift did I give you?"
I smiled with tears in my eyes. "Your heart."
Epilogue
Two months later
I've just spent the last fifteen minutes puking my guts out. After the last few days of this I am completely worn out. I have been sick for weeks. Noelle says I'm pregnant. I just think it's that awful flu that's going around the office. Noelle went out to the drugstore to buy me a pregnancy test. I said it was a waste of her time. She came back so I took it. I wait ten minutes before looking at the stick to see the result.
I'm shocked at result. It's positive. Well, it's not a total surprise. Adam and I have had unprotected sex numerous times. It's just I wasn't expecting to get pregnant so fast. We barely know each other still. There are so many things we still have to share with one another. I know Adam said if I got pregnant he would be happy, but what if it's too soon?
I sit on the closed toilet and bow my head down. "What am gonna do Noelle?"
Noelle knelt beside me. "It's going to be fine. Adam adores you. And you have us, your Mom and Dad. We are all here for you."
"What if he changes his mind? He said he would be happy, but what if tell him and it's more than he can handle right now. He hasn't even told me he loves me yet. I love him, Noelle. I don't know what I'd do without him."
"Of course he loves you. Don't be silly."
"If he does, why hasn't he said anything to me?"
"Maybe he's just as scared as you are. Maybe he's not a lovey dovey kind of guy. Lots of men are like that. So, I've read. Just give him a chance. You won't know until you tell him."
"You're right." I got up and walked towards the door.
"Where are you going?"
"I'm going to the airport. I have to see him tonight. I can't take not knowing."
"Eve, the weather isn't so great, he will be back in a few days. What don't you wait until then, please?"
I hugged her tight. "I'm sorry, but I have to go. I'll call you when I'm on the plane."
I went home and packed a small bag to bring with me. I got to the airport and worried that there wouldn’t be any flights because of the weather. I check the screen of outgoing flights and there were only minor delays. I only had to wait an hour to board my plane. I put my bag in the overhead storage and sit in my seat by the window. I took out my phone and called Noelle after the plane took off to let her know everything is okay. I promised to call her once I land.
Two hours later my phone rang. The plane was almost to the airport and would land soon. I answered, not looking at the caller ID. "Hello?"
"Are you insane? You must be out of your freaking mind?"
"Adam? What's wrong?"
"I called Roman and Noelle because I couldn't reach you to see if they knew where you were? They told me you were coming here to see me. Why Eve? Why would you fly on a night like this?"
The plane shuttered and people screamed. I tried and stay as calm as I can. But, I hear the worry in Adam's voice. "Eve, what's going on?"
"I think we hit some turbulence.” The plane shutters again and more people inside the plane scream including myself. "Adam, I'm scared."
"Eve, stay on the phone with me. You're going to be okay."
"Adam, I have to tell you something."
"What it is princess?"
I tried to remain calm. I know Adam's words are mostly trying to convince himself everything would be. He must be thinking it's his first wife's and son's accident. Oh my God. I'm such an idiot. I hadn't even thought of that when I got on the plane.
"Eve, you still there?"
"I'm still here."
"What do you need to tell me?"
I look out the window and see the airport. "I think we're landing now."
"Good, I'm already on my way to pick you up."
The pilot came on the loud speaker informing us that we need to put our seat belts on. The plane descended and there is another shutter. I had to be calm. As the plane touched the runway it hits the
ground hard. Oxygen masks fell from the ceiling. The man next to me flew out of his seat, his seatbelt ripped, not keeping him in the chair.
My cell phone was knocked out of my hand. Adam was still on the phone. The screaming must be killing him, not knowing what was going on. I looked out the window saw sparks flying out from underneath the plane. We're just gliding along the concrete. I was positive I was going to die. My heart was stuck in my throat. I closed my eyes tight and thought about Adam. I never got to say I love him. The plane finally came to a slow stop, but it quickly caught fire. Fire crews were outside with hoses trying to douse the fire as the stewardess guides us all off the plane. When I was safely on the ground a medic took me into the back of an ambulance to treat my injuries. I only have scrapes and a few bruises, but they wanted to make sure I was okay.
I look out into the distance and see a man running towards me. It's Adam. I jump off the back of the ambulance and ran straight into his arms. He lifted me up and squeezed me so hard that I couldn’t breathe.
He put me down kissing me. "Eve, you're okay. I thought I lost you. I'm so sorry for not being there. I'm sorry for not telling you I love you sooner."
I look up at him with tears in my eyes. "You love me?"
"Of course I do. I'm so sorry I was just afraid to tell you I loved you. I didn't want to scare you away. I need you princess. I can't live without you. I love you."
I smile uncertainly at him. "I'm pregnant."
"What?"
"I'm pregnant. I was going to tell you tonight when I saw you at your house. Then I thought I was going to die so I was going to tell you about the baby on the phone, but it was knocked out of hand. Then I realized I had never I told you how much I loved you and how much you mean to me. Then I thought about how awful you must have felt hearing all those screams and thinking it was your family's accident all over again."
"Eve, look at me. When you were in that plane, I wasn't thinking about my first wife. I was thinking about you. I was thinking how I could live without you. If I lost you I wouldn't be able to go on. Not because of what happened in my past, but because I wouldn't have you in my life anymore. Heaven has two very beautiful angels, but you are my family now Eve. You and our baby."
