“I’m going to kiss you now. I know you’ve been impatiently waiting for it.”
He reached me and grabbed the back of my neck and pulled my face towards his as I grabbed his shoulders to hang on to for what I am expecting to be an earth shattering kiss by the intense look in his eyes.
When his lips connected to mine, he didn't attack me like I was expecting him to, but kissed me gently and then pulled my bottom lip into his mouth and gave it a little nip and then did the same with my top lip as I moaned into his mouth with anticipation. He teased me with his tongue as he licked both lips before diving inside to find mine and that was when my feet were lifted off of the ground as he laid me on the bed beside him and deepened the kiss.
I have never been kissed like this. He is a professional, if that is even possible for kissing to be a profession, but he should definitely be paid to kiss women and sweep them off of their feet.
With each kiss, I wanted more and couldn't keep my hands off of him and kept pulling him closer to me as he started unbuttoning my shirt with one hand and running his other hand through my hair, knotting my long locks into his fists, turning me on even more.
He was out of breath when he pulled away, but still managed to say, “You never told me your name. I’m here on business, are you a local or just visiting?”
I pulled my arms out of my sleeves and unzipped my skirt as I lay there in nothing but my panties and bra and started unbuttoning his pants.
“Meg, my name is Meg and I’m a local, but would you please quit talking and just do me already?”
I wasn’t about to tell him my real name and distract him over how crazy it was because I knew that it wouldn’t take me very long to come once he gets started and if I have enough time, I may get a chance to have more than one orgasm for a change.
“Just so you know, I don’t like to rush and enjoy taking my sweet time.”
I pulled him on top of me and grinned.
“As long as I can get a few orgasms out of it, I don't care how long you take.”
“Your wish is my command.”
Boy did I ever have an orgasm with him. I let out a sigh and was daydreaming about the five orgasms he gave me when Onyx walked into the back room with me.
“He’s gone.” He nodded at me. “He said he’ll be back tomorrow, though.”
Maybe he knew my real name after all. I was immediately worried but excited because I was honestly hoping that last night wouldn’t be the last time I ever saw him. I snuck out after he had fallen asleep and didn’t leave a note with my real name or number on it so I’m not sure what he wants.
“Did he say what he wanted with me?” I asked casually, trying to make my brother think that I didn’t care that my one-night-stand had shown up out of the blue.
“You’re sure that you didn’t tell him your name?” he asked with suspicion in his eyes.
“Positive. I told him my name was Meg. You know that everyone calls me Gemma and only my classmates that I went to school with know my real name and trust me, I would have remembered going to school with him.”
“Because he’s a ginger and would be unforgettable?” He arched a brow at me.
“Shut up!” I punched him in the arm.
He shook his head. “All I know is that he was holding an envelope that had your name on it and he said that he needed to give it to you and discuss what is in it. I don’t think you’re going to be able to hide from this, whatever this is.” He shrugged his shoulders.
“Dammit!”
“That’s why I’ve always told you to never have a one night stand. You should listen to your brother. I’m pretty smart.” He grinned.
“Says the horn dog who has at least two a week.” I smirked.
“Hey, don’t hate the player, hate the game. Plus, it’s hard to fall in love with a girl who gives in so easily.” I gasped. “I’m not referring to you so don’t get your panties twisted. I know you’re not that kind of girl and as much as it hates me to say this, because you are my sister and the thought of you having sex with anyone,” he rolled his eyes, “anyway, after the number Brett did on you, I’m glad that you had some fun last night. When was the last time you had sex?” I stared at him as he chuckled. “Before last night?”
“Two nights before my wedding to Brett, the wedding that never happened.” I mumbled in remembrance.
“And he was your first?”
“Not that it’s any of your business, but yes.” I rolled my eyes and couldn’t believe that I was having this conversation with my little brother.
“That’s what I thought. You needed last night, Gemma, but be careful and don’t start doing it all the time. You could end up with a serial killer if you don’t take better care of yourself.” He patted me on the arm and went back to work with a flabbergasted look on his face which had me dying of embarrassment.
“Why is it all right for men to have one night stands, but not women?” I asked myself as I wondered how I was going to deal with tomorrow when I come face to face with Flynn again.
CHAPTER TWO
The next morning was hot and hectic to say the least, which wasn’t too unusual considering where we live. Oklahoma weather is always unpredictable. It’s either so warm that you hate wearing clothes or so cold that some days you can’t have enough layers on to keep warm. There have been a few occasions where we have had a thunderstorm, an earthquake and snow, all in one day. One day, I hope to travel to a place that has consistent weather every day, but snow during the winter holidays would be an added bonus because there’s nothing prettier than a white Christmas.
Friday’s are always busy in the jewelry store and today is Sapphire’s last day of school before Thanksgiving break, and he has had nothing but questions for me as he was leaving the apartment.
“Are you sure that you’re cool about me having dinner with Skyler’s family for Thanksgiving? You’re really not going to cook this year? Again?” He asked, with a look of sadness on his face.
“Sapphire,” I paused when he raised a brow to me. “Blue, I’m sorry, it’s taking some getting used to to not call you by your given name.”
“You don’t go by your given name. At least I’m going by my middle name, you made yours up.” He chuckled.
“Whatever.” I picked up my purse and looked in the mirror before heading downstairs to open the shop up, but didn’t forget the question my youngest brother asked me.
Ever since Mom and Dad died, I didn’t care for the holidays anymore. Our first Thanksgiving and Christmas without them, I cooked a big lavish meal for each, and it didn’t feel the same without them. It felt forced and I have decided to not do anything this year since Sapphire and Ruby were a year older.
It’s Sapphire’s senior year of high school and Ruby’s second year of college and with him having a girlfriend, whose house he pretty much stays at because her parents love and feel sorry for him for not having parents, and with Ruby away at college and has already informed me that she wasn’t coming home, I decided to not make a big deal over cooking a big dinner.
“I guess that’s a no then?”
I looked up and he was kicking his foot onto the bottom of the coffee table with a guarded look on his face and my heart went out to him because it wasn’t his fault that his parents died too soon and he ended up with his non-affectionate oldest sister to finish raising him.
“If it means that much to you, I’ll cook dinner and Skyler is more than welcome to come as well.”
He looked at me with a hopeful grin on his face and I tried to give him a genuine smile, but he could tell that I didn’t want to do it because that beautiful grin of his turned upside down quickly.
“Nah, it’s all right. I’ll just go over to Skyler’s house for dinner. They like to play board games over there and I’ll probably have more fun with her family anyway.”
I let out a sigh in knowing that I had just crushed him by the dig he gave me about how we don’t act like a family anymore.
“I’m serious, Blue. I’
ll cook. It’s not a big deal.” I smiled at him, letting him know that he means that much to me.
He shook his head. “It’s cool. I better go or I’m going to be late for school. Later, Gemma.”
When he closed the door, I had to sit down and compose myself before walking downstairs and waiting for Flynn to give me whatever it is that he has in his envelope. After spending an hour on my hair and makeup and picking out the right outfit to wear, I felt like shit after the conversation with Sapphire, or, Blue, since he prefers that name.
Poor guy. Of the four of us, he is the most sensitive and has the biggest heart and has missed Mom and Dad the most because they lavished him with tons of hugs and kisses. Since he was the last baby, they never missed telling him how precious he was to them and how much they loved him every morning and every day before he would leave the house.
It’s not that I don’t miss them, because I think about them every minute of every day, but I have so much anger and resentment and so much guilt regarding them, and I feel so responsible for them not being alive.
After Brett left me at the altar, not only did he break my heart and rip it out without any regard to how it affected me, but I was turned into the town pariah. Everyone stared at me with that questioning look in their eyes, wondering if I was frigid or unlovable or maybe cheated on him, or who knows what else they thought, but he left town with something very valuable to my family besides my broken heart.
Since the day I was born, I was to be given a family ring that had been in my family for centuries. It was so valuable that when my father had it appraised, it was considered priceless and museums from far and wide, all over the world, wanted it and it ended up in a bidding war once it was out that my father owned it.
Growing up, I thought it was the most beautiful ruby and diamond ring in the world because I knew that it used to belong to a queen. The rumor is that the queen gave it back to her husband, the King, because she thought it was too small for her to wear. The King gave it to one of his concubines, but this particular concubine happened to be my Great, Great, Great, Great, I forget how many Great’s, Grandmother. She was stolen from the King’s harem by one of the King’s strongest soldiers and she and the soldier fell madly in love and instead of selling the ring, they kept it and it was passed on from generation to generation.
Because of the ring’s value, my father had an exact replica made to show off in the jewelry store that we owned and that was where my ex-fiance, Brett, came in. After Dad hired him, Brett started asking me out the moment he was hired. At twenty-years-old and never having a boyfriend, each day, I fell for his sweet words and loved what a gentleman he was and before I knew it, he had swept me off of my feet and when he asked me to marry him, after six months of dating, I didn’t hesitate and said yes and lost my virginity to him that night.
Little did I know, but a week before Brett had asked for my hand in marriage, my father had told him the truth about our priceless family ring and told Brett that whoever married me, would have the honor of placing it on my finger on my wedding day.
I should have seen the signs when he asked me to elope instead of having the big elaborate wedding that I wanted. When I told him that I needed at least six months to plan the wedding, he flipped out, but calmed down when I asked him if he was truly in love with me. He reassured me that of course he was and his reasoning was that he didn’t want to wait long to marry the woman of his dreams, but he would, because he loved me that much.
The night before our wedding, right after my father gave Brett the ring, he left on a flight to Barbados. Brett had already changed his name and it took my father a year to track him down and that’s when Dad and my mother left to go search for him, but they never made it back.
The last call from our parents was on Christmas night, almost 3 years ago and that was when Dad said that they were getting closer to Brett and should be home soon. A week later, and on New Year’s Eve, a telegram arrived with some of their personal effects, letting us know that they were killed in a car wreck in Africa, two days after we had last spoken to them.
That day, life as I knew it was over and of course we were all horrified when we received the news and were crushed when we didn’t have their bodies to bury. A couple of loyal customers, Mr. and Mrs. Roberts, that my parents had had through the years, planned a memorial for them and even though it was the last thing that I wanted to do, I could tell that it helped Onyx, Ruby and Sapphire move on and tell our parents goodbye in their own way.
That next year, I managed to graduate from college by the skin of my teeth, barely above passing, but I did it. I worked every day in the store while Onyx went to school as I took my online classes at night so that I would be available for Ruby and Sapphire since they both needed me and were both still in high school. The past couple of years has gone by like a blur because I have felt like a zombie, just going through the motions and trying to get over the guilt of picking the wrong guy that destroyed my whole entire family.
“Are you going to come downstairs and work today or what? That guy’s back and I told him I was coming to get you.”
Onyx was standing at the top of the stairs with a frown on his face and I couldn’t believe that I had sat upstairs for so long, wallowing in my own guilt and had forgotten that Flynn was coming in today.
“Shit, I’m coming. Let me run to the bathroom and fix my makeup and I’ll be down there.”
“Have you been… crying?” Onyx asked with worry.
I shook my head at him. “Of course not, go back down there and keep him busy, I won’t be long.”
I didn’t wait for him to reply and ran into the bathroom and tried to make myself as presentable as I could.
“I can already tell that this is going to be a shitty day.” I said to myself, while looking into the mirror.
CHAPTER THREE
As soon as I walked into the store, I quit breathing. Flynn had his back to me and was looking inside the glass enclosed cases of jewelry that we had for sale. He was wearing snug jeans that stopped right above his hips and a buttoned up shirt that looked like it was about to burst from the seams around his arms and back. I relished in the thought that I have seen him naked and knew that he was even hotter without clothes on.
When he turned around and saw me, his eyes flickered with excitement and a big broad grin spread across his face. I couldn’t help but to grin back at him as he rushed over to me.
“Meg, what are you doing here? I didn’t think I’d ever see you again. I think my day has just been made.”
I ignored the fake cough that my brother let out behind me.
“I, uh.” I was at a loss for words as I stared into his big beautiful eyes that were clearly checking me out from head to toe as if he were seeing me for the first time again.
“Please tell me that you’re not looking at engagement rings for your boyfriend to buy you. That would seriously crush me.” He didn’t hide his feelings and I couldn’t help but be a little excited that he hoped that I was single.
“No. No boyfriend for me.” I shook my head. “Ever.” I whispered.
He didn’t miss what I said as his grin spread to his eyes.
“That’s too bad. Where are you going after you leave here, Beautiful? Wanna go grab a cup of coffee?” He leaned closer to me so that no one else could hear. “Or maybe go back to my room for round 2?”
I felt my face turn red from embarrassment or quite possibly the idea of what going back to his room meant. Either way, I didn’t think it was a good idea so I shook my head at him.
“That’s probably not a great idea. I was told that you needed to talk to me.” I said as a question and didn’t miss the dumbfounded look on his face.
“You were? By whom?”
I turned around and looked at Onyx who had a perplexed look on his face as he looked at Flynn and then to me.
“You’re, Precious? But, I thought you said your name was Meg.” Flynn raised an eyebrow at me in speculation as he looked from
me and Onyx and then stayed on me.
“Yeah, about that.” I cringed.
“I know we had a one night stand, but I didn’t realize that you had lied to me about your first name.” I didn’t miss how hurt he seemed to be as he shook his head at me. “Do you know how many Meg’s live in this town? I didn’t know if that was your actual name or if maybe it was short for Megan. Did you know that Megan is spelled so many different kinds of ways that my vision started blurring on Facebook from trying to see your face in the profile pictures?”
He was pointing his finger at me now and I couldn’t help but to let out a little giggle when I saw a vein about pop out of his forehead.
“You’re even cuter when you’re mad, but geez, we had a one night stand, get over yourself. If I wanted you to know anything about me, I would have told you.” I grinned at him but he still seemed flustered.
He started waving his hands up in the air and started walking in circles as he tried to say what was on his mind, but every time he tried to say something, he would stop and point his finger at me and start all over and start pacing again.
Onyx came up and stood next to me with his arms across his chest with a bewildered look on his face.
“Does the soulless dude have Tourette’s or something? What’s his deal? Do I need to call the police or will you let me kick his ass?”
Flynn stopped what he was doing and glared at Onyx and walked over to him and they were nose to nose, sizing each other up and I wasn’t sure how this was going to go since they both seemed to be the same size.
“Did you just ask her if I needed my ass kicked? By… you?” Flynn scoffed. “Boy, I oughta—”
“I’ll show you boy, Boy!” Onyx yelled.
I stood between them because I knew this wasn’t going to end well if I didn’t stop the madness.
I put a hand on each of their chests and looked at Flynn first who seemed to be foaming at the mouth and Onyx wasn’t too far behind him as he was puffing his chest out with his fists up and ready.
