  Author Notes - Michael Anderle

  September 15, 2019

“And I want him to have the opportunity to say something entertaining.” – Isabella Crowley, AKA Ell Leigh Clarke AKA Ellie.

Damn, with a comment like that, I only have up to go!

So, I’m just back from eating in the NYNY hotel (Il Fornaio for breakfast), where I dashed over to the Excalibur because it has a sugar store (no, really) called Lick. Lick has a fairly decent selection of esoteric soda pop.

  No Coke or Pepsi here.

Which is fine, I can get my Coke habit solved at grocery stores, and I’m learning that doing rituals to cause the downfall of Pepsi, Inc. is frowned upon.

No, seriously. It is. Surprising, I know.

The only problem (I’ve found out) is Big Red is bottled under license by Pepsi. Darn my luck! If I succeed in one area by getting rid of Pepsi, Inc. I have to be ready to accept my precious Big Red—in a bottle—might not be so easily procured.

  Dammit, quandaries.

So, I guess a slight introduction is relevant here. I live (often, for the most part) on the Strip in Las Vegas. I go to the Aria hotel for lunch and dinner because it’s the closest place that has some of my favorite restaurants, Javier’s and Five-Fifty Pizza (but I ask for the pizza well done.)

However, my closest WALKING favorite breakfast location is over in the NYNY Hotel.

It’s about a half-mile walk each way, so a nice way to get a mile of walking done in the morning. Right before I chug my recently acquired Big Red which—#probably—negates all the benefits of the walk in the first place.

IT DOES NOT SURPRISE ME IN THE LEAST

I’m already on record saying that I believe Ellie is one of the smartest people I know. I typically explain the way I judge intelligence is it takes smarts to provide short, concise, quality explanations from a lot of data blathered about a subject.

(On this scale, I’m back w/the apes.)

Ellie can listen to a five-minute conversation (coming one-way from me) and then distill it down to one or two paragraphs. I call that linguistica magicka.

  <>

However, this is the first time I’ve heard of her effort with the tarot cards and sigils at eight years old. I think I was playing with those eight-inch-tall Spider-Man action heroes at that age.

(Look up 1973 Action Hero Spider-man eight-inch-tall—it has clothes and a squishy head, I kid you not.)

  <>

Obviously, we can see which of us is going to go to theoretical physics between the two of us. Hint: It wasn’t me.

When I first saw the pen name she had chosen for Urban Fantasy / Paranormal stuff I admit to just a bit of professional jealousy. It really is an EXCELLENT pen name.

  <>

I suppose Alexander Crowley is open…

  MORE ON TAYLOR

When creating Taylor, I wanted the reader to know that underneath, she really is a monster. This is why I had the one scene in the beginning where her jaw unhinges, and we can imagine her biting off the head of the werewolf.

That is not something nice vampires do.

Further, she keeps Remy on guard with how ho-hum she is about murder—his specifically, if he does something heinous.

Like being late for his appointment.

I like to think she would say: “I have ninety-nine problems but dealing with idiocy won’t be one.”

  DONUTS

At this Lick candy store (Excalibur Hotel, upstairs next to the buffet.) I saw a shirt I thought was hilarious.

“I got 99 doughnuts ‘cause a bitch ate one.”

  <>

  SHE HAS YOUR BACK.

Ok, so I’ve said that Ellie was smart. However, she has this knack for going along with stuff (sometimes to her detriment.)

I was looking at funny t-shirts (see 99 doughnuts) and I found one that would be good for her connecting her intelligence with her type of friendship.

  “THAT’S A HORRIBLE IDEA!

  WHAT TIME?”

  <>

  AND ONE FOR ME

“I RUN ON COKE, CHAOS, AND CUSS WORDS.”

Thank you for reading our stories, and I hope to see you at the end of book 02 ;-)

  ---

Two years ago, a small moon in a far off system was set to be the location of the first intergalactic war between humans and an alien race.

It never happened. However, something was found many are willing to kill to keep a secret.

Now, they have killed the wrong people.

How many will need to die to keep the truth hidden?

  As many as is needed.
