About the book
A love lost, but never forgotten.
Jason
An opportunity realized. He gives up everything for a chance to win the heart of his one true love. Separated by years, the sacrifice he must make might prove too much.
Will she give him another chance to win her heart?
Evana
Locked in the hell of her past, she finds herself longing for a future. One that isn’t teeming with deadly secrets. Haunted by the loss of her beloved spouse, she can’t seem to disentangle herself from his ghost or the enemies that still seek her out.
When new friends prove to be more than they appear, giving Jason and Evana a chance to start over, will they take it? Or, is it already too late?
This was the best fucking birthday present Jason could have ever asked for. Making out in the back seat of his beater with the most beautiful girl in the school was beyond anything he could have ever dreamed up. There weren’t enough candles on the planet for him to have made a wish like this come true.
Only recently having drummed up enough courage to finally talk to her in the hall after the bell rang dismissing the students from yet another grueling high school day of peer pressure and blending in, he’d succeeded in stringing together a few words, forming a question, without coming across as a complete jackass.
Normally he was one cool customer with the ladies, but not when it came to Evana Sage. All he could ever manage when it came to her was a nod or a shy smile. Actual talking to her had never developed past a mumbled greeting that led to heart palpitations.
To his immense surprise she had agreed to a movie date, which was where he currently found himself lip locked with her in the only drive-in theater left in the country.
There was a console dividing them in the front, so they’d decided the bench seat in the back would make popcorn sharing easier, so concentrating on the movie was impossible with her sitting so close beside him.
His plan was to simply sit next to her and maybe, if he was lucky, hold her hand. That hand was currently kneading her soft breast, the hand holding a distant memory, discarded the moment their eyes locked.
She had smiled over at him about halfway through the movie. He leaned down, taking a chance to try and kiss her. He hadn’t planned on any of this happening. Evana was known to be an impossible catch. It wasn’t that she was a cold fish, but that she wasn’t known to put out…ever.
He felt honored that he was even getting an opportunity to kiss her, but things had escalated quickly. Pressing her back into the seat with a fire burning hot between them.
His blue jeans were digging in hard against his erection, and he wanted nothing more than to free it from its denim confines. He was already way further along with her than he ever thought he would get, so he needed to keep his throbbing appendage to himself.
Evana’s kisses were turning more passionate as she rolled her hips against his thigh that was nestled between her legs. He could feel her heat through the material of her tan cargo pants. Her feminine center was scorching, burning away his self-control.
Taking his hand away from her breast, it migrated south caressing her hip before slipping between their bodies to massage her heated center. She moaned into his mouth at the contact urging him to continue. It wasn’t long before he popped free the button and slid down the zipper of her pants to slide his hand inside.
The crotch of her panties was wet from their play. Encouraged by her reaction to him, he slipped a finger inside the cotton undergarment to touch her petal softness. Evana’s hips jerked hard and ground against his exploration. His balls cinching up tight at the feel of her slippery flesh.
Going for a better position, he slipped his hand down the front of her panties. Her lips were satiny soft and hot enough to burn, but he was having a difficult time maneuvering his hand around inside the heavy material of her pants.
Reluctant to remove his hand all together, afraid she would change her mind and not allow him back in, he needed to push her pants down lower so he could have better access to her fiery center.
Tugging against the waistband of her cargo pants, he was thrilled to feel her tugging in tandem on the other side. Encouraged that she was of a like mind, he removed one pant leg, wasting no time plunging his hand down the front of her panties, pushing a finger inside. What he wouldn’t give to have his dick buried deep inside her tight channel.
His hips surged forward, thrusting against her thigh at the feel of her wetness coating his finger. Moving in and out of her with a steady rhythm, he soon had her writhing beneath him. Covering her with his palm, he rubbed against her clit while his finger caressed her silken walls.
He knew the moment she came.
“Yes,” she breathed against his lips
.
At first, he wasn’t sure what she was agreeing to, but when he pulled away to peer down into her luminous eyes, his finger still messaging her inside, he knew why she was saying yes.
“Are you sure?” Being the man-whore that he was, he normally took what was offered without question, but he genuinely liked her, and didn’t want to fuck anything up. She was his first love.
Nodding her head with her bottom lip caught between her teeth was all the answer he needed.
Reaching in his back pocket to pull out his wallet, he fumbled with the fake leather until he came back with the small foil packet. Tearing it open with his teeth, he unfastened his jeans, pulling them down enough to expose his pulsating member. The lust enriched air hitting his over-sensitized skin was almost as good as a woman’s caress. He was already so close to cuming.
His hand shook as he rolled the condom down his turgid length. It sucked that there was going to be a barrier between them, but he was always careful to wrap his shit up before sex.
Taking hold of the waistband on her modest cotton panties, he freed one leg exposing her sex to him for the first time. She was lovelier than he could have ever envisioned.
The sweet scent of her sex drilled into his nasal cavities, addling his brain. Before he could even process the need to go slow and make it good for her, he thrust himself inside, pumping hard into her tight sheath, cuming almost instantly.
His eyes squeezed shut against the immense pleasure that washed over him. He didn’t see the pained look that had overtaken her features or the tears that were streaming down her flushed cheeks, but the sob that escaped her trembling lips caught his full attention.
“Please, take me home,” Evana pleaded, pushing against his chest.
“Shit. Evana, I’m so sorry. I wasn’t thinking. Are you alright?”
Nodding, she ducked her head setting her clothes back to rights without looking at him.
So consumed with lust, the barrier he’d breached before he was fully seated inside her hadn’t registered until it was too late. He knew she wasn’t a slut, but he sure as fuck wouldn’t have guessed she was a virgin since she was almost eighteen.
He apologized to her the entire way to her house. Even though she was reassuring him all was well, she wouldn’t look him in the eye.
Guilt took root in his soul as she brushed off his attempt to walk her to the door. Bolting from the car, she practically ran away from him. He’d really botched up any hope of ever making her his girlfriend.
It was a sad journey back to his own home. Pulling off his clothes, he’d opted for a shower not feeling worthy to have her scent on his skin.
No sooner than he was dried and clothed did a knock sound on the door, but it was getting awfully late for visitors.
As he jogged down the hall to answer before the knocking disturbed his dad, he fantasized that Evana would be standing on the opposite side of the door when he opened it.
His fantasy evaporated like smoke caught in the wind. Instead of a black-haired beauty with amethyst eyes, there stood two uniformed officers, there to take him in for questioning. He had read her all wrong, thought that she had wanted him. Apparently not.
He didn’t wake his dad, just left without a fuss. Working hard six days a week, his single father deserved his rest. There would be time enough in the morning to absorb the disappointment that was sure to consume his dad’s rugged features.
It was odd that he wasn’t handcuffed or read his rights. Just given a ride in the back of the patrol car to the police station in town and then let out to walk into the building, albeit escorted, the officer didn’t even take ahold of his arm.
He followed the officer who’d driven him over to a desk where he was handed off to a pudgy cop seated behind a boxy computer screen. His shirt stretched so tight over his bulbous belly, the buttons strained to hold the two halves together.
“Take a seat Mr. Gales. I’m Officer Stint.” Motioning for Jason to sit in the stiff, wooden seat hugging the side of his plain, metal desk, he pondered this to be the most bizarre arrest. Not that he was in a hurry to be looking through a row of vertical iron bars or anything.
Starting with the basics, name and address, led into a series of questions, none of which he thought pertained to a rape charge.
Pausing to slurp back some black as sin coffee, Officer Stint got back with the program. Bushy eyebrows dropped low over his deep-set eyes as he resumed his two-fingered, hunt-and-peck method to enter Jason’s answers to his endless questions regarding Evana and where they had spent their evening.
“Alright, Mr. Gales, that’s all we need. I’ll have one of the patrols drop you back at your house.”
Jason sagged in relief. He wasn’t there to be arrested, just questioned. “Can I ask why I was brought in? What’s this all about?”
“You were named by Evana Sage as an alibi to her whereabouts this evening. Both your stories check out with the employees from the drive-in, and you’re free to go,” Officer Stint answered.
Something major had gone down with the Valkyrie MC her mother was president of. No major details were given, just that the police were getting the timeline of events and people involved squared away.
He wasn’t in a huge hurry to get back into a cop car anytime soon, so he’d opted to walk back home.
Evana was just leaving with her aunt when he’d cleared the parking lot and was about to cross the street. Frantically waving his arms to gain her attention, he started to run after her aunt’s car as it pulled out onto the road.
Evana waved at him from the passenger side window, then placed her palm flat on the glass, but the car never slowed. He could just make out her saddened features as she turned her head to maintain eye contact with him as the car continued down the road.
Running as fast as his legs would carry him and yelling after the car did nothing to stop its forward momentum. Out of breath, his lungs burned from the exertion, but got him no closer to catching up to her.
His first and only love was swiftly disappearing into the darkness. The car growing smaller and smaller until it was nothing more than two pinpoints of red light, then completely swallowed up by the night.
He hadn’t gone home like he’d planned, he’d run all the way to her house and waited until dawn streaked the morning sky with slashes of soft, peach light. She never showed.
This was goodbye. He knew it in his soul that she was gone. It would be a long while, if ever, before he would see her again.
Present day…
Every nerve in Evana’s body was firing, and a swarm of butterflies had invaded her belly. She had no reason to be nervous. She hadn’t felt this anxious since… well, since her first and only date with Jason.
What was it about him that always turned her into a jittery mess? Maybe it was because he had been her first crush, or the fact that he had been the one to cash out her V-card.
No. She had been weak kneed around him way before any of that had ever happened. A stuttering disaster that was never sure of what to do with her hands.
I mean, come on, her first sexual experience with Jason had been so… anticlimactic, so what was with the nerves? The foreplay and anticipation of the sex had been exhilarating, better than she could have ever imagined. And, that orgasm he’d given her had damn never blown her head off. But, the act had left her sore and confused and was over before it even began.
She’d waited until marriage to have sex again. Not that she was afraid of it, just that she hadn’t had the opportunity with her aunt keeping her hidden away and moving them around every time the wind changed directions.
Taking a few deep breaths, she tried to calm her tangled nerves so she didn’t make a complete fool out of herself when Jason arrived for his first day of work.
No longer an insecure teenager, she was now a widow and prominent business owner of Exotic Ink, one of the most prestigious tattoo studios in New York City.
The shop had belonged to her late husband, Kyle Grey, but she ha
d inherited the property upon his death and had managed to keep the business not only alive but thriving, all while continuing her passion for tattooing. The business was beginning to overwhelm her and maintaining all the records while juggling her clients and artists’ needs had her ready to pull her hair out. Hence the reason for hiring Jason Gales.
Splitting the office duties and having an extra artist was what she needed to relieve the burden she’d been carrying around ever since Kyle had passed away.
As soon as one of her newest artist, Tegan Steele, had suggested his former boss for the position, she had pounced on the idea like a cat on a laser pointer shooting across a wood floor.
She could have opened the job up to the public, but she’d set her cap on Jason for the position. He had been the owner of his own tattoo studio in Boston for thirteen years and had a great reputation in the tattoo industry, all of which were true, but there were others out there just as qualified. She just wasn’t interested in anybody else.
Letting her muscles go liquid, she gave herself a shake to try and calm her nerves. Welcoming him to her shop with a sweaty palm and knocking knees wouldn’t exactly scream confidence.
Surely she could handle seeing him again after all this time without stammering her way through a sentence or giggling like an idiot. She had some serious life experience tucked under her belt, and her self-assurance was normally high.
Then why was she feeling seventeen again?
Looking over her reflection in the employees’ restroom one last time, she turned to the side, smoothing her hand over the length of her long, glossy black ponytail, and checked her sleeveless blouse and leather skirt for wrinkles.
She had no idea why she had picked this particular outfit out of all the other pieces she had hanging in her closet.
No. She did know why, but admitting to herself that she was dressing in hopes of impressing Jason wasn’t something she wanted to look too closely at, and he was due to arrive any minute.
