“You can tell me Bonnie.” Leon soon said making me stop thinking about Jay. “He won’t know about this conversation.”
I laughed at him. “Do you think I care what Jay thinks? You can tell him if you want. I don’t care.”
“That’s nice to know.” He said with a wide smile. “But nonetheless, I won’t tell him.”
“I thought you told each other everything, but I guess everyone has their secrets.” I said shaking my head.
“Yeah, and I am wondering what yours are.” Leon told me softly. I stared at him briefly feeling a blush start to come. I looked away from him so he wouldn’t see and looked up at the sky. “How about you ask me a question, about me, and I will have to answer honestly, then I get to ask you a question, about you, and you have to answer honestly, fare?”
After a minute went by and I thought my blush was gone, I turned to look at him.
“What makes you think I want to know about you?” When I said the question I felt stupid afterwards. Of course he knew I wanted to know about him. Why else would I be out here with him? It wasn’t like I liked him that much…..or maybe I did…..or maybe I didn’t. Goodness, I don’t even know how I feel about him.
“I’ll let you go first.” He said as if brushing off the question. “What do you want to know?”
“Where did you and your brothers live before you moved here?” I asked thinking that sense he claimed them as family that made them his brothers, blood or not.
“I said asked questions about me.” He laughed jokingly.
“Well I did say you as well.” I eyed him from the corner of my eyes, and then I saw that he wasn’t opening his mouth at all to speak. I rolled my eyes. “Fine, whatever, where did you live before you moved here?”
“Well I lived in a big city.” He said. I made an angry face at him.
“That’s not a very detailed answer.” I said with a glare.
“You didn’t give a very detailed question.” He shrugged his shoulders with a smile on his lips.
How detailed does, where did you live, before coming here have to be? I wondered and just looked away from him.
“Ok, what do you want to know?” I let out, a bit angrier, than I wanted.
“Do you have a boyfriend?” He asked as if he hadn’t paid any attention to my tone of voice.
His question took me by surprise. I wasn’t sure what to say to him. I wanted to ask him why he wanted to know, but choose not to. If he wanted to me difficult, then so could I.
“Maybe.” I said knowing full well, I didn’t have a boyfriend, so the real answer was no.
“That’s not a real answer.” He said.
“Well you did the same to me.”
“No, I told you I lived in a city, just not which one, you on the other hand, only told me maybe, which really isn’t a real answer. Maybe could mean yes, but it could mean no.” He reasoned.
“Well, guess.” I said to him looking him right in the eyes.
His eyes went wide suddenly and he started to laugh. I liked the sound of his laugh. It felt good to my ears, for whatever reason.
Before I could stop myself, I started to laugh as well. We kept laughing for a few moments before our eyes locked and we just smiled at each other.
“Why do you want to know if I have a boyfriend?” I asked suddenly, not understanding why I was brave enough to ask.
Leon paused for a moment as if trying to think about his words. “No, real reason, I just have been wondering.”
“Why?” I asked pushing on. He was good at going around my questions.
“You only get one question.” He chuckled. “It’s my turn.”
“Ok.” I put my hands up and shook my head.
“What do you think of me?”
Now it was my turn to pause. “What kind of question is that?” I asked not understanding why he was asking me these things.
“You can’t answer a question with a question.” He said rubbing my knee.
“I don’t know.” I lied slightly.
I didn’t know how I felt about him. Sometimes I thought he was nice, sweet, and just a great guy, but then sometimes I wondered if he wasn’t any better than his brothers.
Leon eyes stared into my eyes as if he was trying to see if I was lying or not. He shook his head and looked away. “Your turn.”
“What’s been happening to the girls at our school?” I asked again. I knew I had asked him this question before, but I wanted to know if he was telling me the truth. I didn’t think he had been lying to me, since we have been asking each other these questions, so I thought I should ask him again.
He shook his head at me and his hair fall over his eyes. He looked up at me through his hair. I could see his grey eyes and they looked like a smoky color that made him look beautiful.
“I answered that one already.” He said his eyes still looking at me, through his hair. “Did you forget?” He began to tease. His hand that was on my knee began to shake me lightly.
I looked at his hand on my knee and smiled. I didn’t know why but I didn’t feel like I was out of breath. I tended to always feel that way when it came to Jay. He made me feel like I just couldn’t breathe at times, like he was taking my very breath away. I just wasn’t sure if that was a good thing or not.
Then I thought about Leon. He didn’t make me feel that way. With him I always felt so relaxed, happy, and me. It was funny to me. With most people I felt like I needed to always make sure that they knew I wouldn’t let them walk over me, but with him, it was never like that.
Leon made me feel like a normal girl. It was like I could really talk to him and just be myself, which scared me. He was in the forbidden four. They were off limits. They were the guys everyone wanted but never could truly have. That was why they were the forbidden four, a temptation to everyone, including me.
“Well then why is it that whenever girls go out with your brothers they come back looking lifeless?” I said biting my lip, then tried to avoid his eyes.
He laughed. “Only questions about me, or have you forgotten that.” His hand started to make circles on my knee and this made me shiver. I partly wanted him to move his hand, but the girl in me liked that he was even touching me. “I’ll let you try again.”
My eyes turned to him getting ready to say ‘let me’, but I bit my lip, when I saw the way he was looking at me. His eyes were so focused on me, so beautiful, and it had me at a loss of words. I tried to regain myself and thought about what I would ask him now.
Maybe I could ask him about where he goes when he isn’t here at school or maybe were his parents are at.
I liked my last thought, even though I still wondered about where he went. That could be my next question.
“Where are your parents?” I asked him. He didn’t seem to surprise at my question. He just looked as if he had been waiting for the question.
“They are gone.” He said flatly.
“Gone were….” I trailed off, as if trying to ask for more info on the topic.
“Trying to ask more than one question?” He chuckled. “You’re question just wasn’t detailed enough.” I made an angry face at him, thinking he was just trying to avoid my questions and it just wasn’t far. He was better at avoiding my questions then I was at his and this was making me mad. “They died.”
The words left his mouth so calmly, so softly that if I hadn’t been paying attention, I wouldn’t have heard him even speak.
My eyes stayed on his face, trying to see if I saw any emotion of sadness or pain. I didn’t see anything. His face seemed blanked, emotionless. He turned his head, so he wasn’t looking at me anymore. He started to look up at the sky.
I felt the cool wind hit my skin and hugged myself. The wind had blown his hair from his eyes. His grey eyes looked so different, so warm, yet distanced.
“Are you ok?” I asked. I wanted to say I was so sorry, but I couldn’t bring myself to say that to him. I was sure everyone who he had meant had said that to him.

bsp; “It was a long time ago. You learn to move on.” Leon said still looking up at the sky, but he put a smile on his face. “Where do you think you go when you die?”
I blinked at him. I ran a hand through my hair and thought about it. Many different out looks came to my mind. Angelica would say heaven; Beth would say you were reincarnated, then there were so many other things that I heard of.
“I wondered about that.” He said then his eyes went back to me. “I read about stuff like that all the time, so many different views from, so many different religions.”
A smile went across my lips.
“Now my real question for you is do you believe in the supernatural?” He had this serious look on his face and that made me laugh.
“A few days ago I might have said no.” I laughed, shaking my head.
“But now….”
“That’s two, only one.” I said hitting him lightly on the arm. When I did that I moved my hand back to my side, quickly. I didn’t really like how he made me feel like we had been friends for years.
“I gave you two.” He laughed.
“Sure, why not. Anything is possible right.” I said lightly looking away from him and at the school building. “Do you think the bell is going to be ringing soon?” I asked suddenly thinking about my last hour class. I didn’t want to miss that one as well. I would just have to ask him about where he went, when he skipped class, later.
“Are you afraid of the supernatural?” He asked quietly.
I turned back to him getting ready to laugh and say ‘that’s three’, but I stopped when I saw the way his eyes looked. He looked as if he would be weighing everything on my next words.
Was I afraid of the supernatural? The question would have been stupid and ridiculous a week or so ago, but now after what I saw…..was I afraid of knowing there might really be something out there, that wasn’t supposed to be real.
“I don’t know.” I whispered more to myself then to him. I felt his hands go on my face and it was then, that I realized, that I was crying.
Why was I crying? Did my mind know something that I just didn’t want to listen to?
“The bell will be ringing soon. You can leave if you want.” He whispered softly wiping the tears from my face. “I think I will be staying out here, for the remainder of school.”
I shook my head and got up. “Bye.” I walked back to the school building and looked over to the soccer field and saw that the players were starting to leave the field. I turned to look back at Leon and saw that he was smiling at me.
After I smiled back I kept going into the school. When I got into the school I heard the bell ring. I had a few minutes before the next bell would ring, so I decided to go to the restroom. I wanted to see if it looked like I had been crying.
My legs walked into the restroom and looked at myself in the mirror. I looked like I had been crying, but my face didn’t look too bad. I thought. I just needed to get some tissue and then I could wipe my eyes a little better.
I walked into one of the bathroom stalls, and the door closed right behind me. I shook my head and went for the tissue. Just as I did; I heard the bathroom door swing open.
My hand was about to go to my stall door, but I stopped when I heard Madison voice.
“Did you see her?” I heard her voice asked. I looked through the crack on my stall door and saw that she was looking at herself in the mirror. She was talking to a girl with really long obviously dyed blonde hair.
I didn’t know who this girl was, but it seemed like Madison did.
“I heard.” The girl high like voice said.
“I am telling you Anna, she was all over him.” Madison said running a hand through her black hair. “It was so sad. He’s just going to use her just like his brothers always due the other girls.”
I glared at her through the stall door. Something told me she was talking about me. The little thing needed to shut her mouth.
“I know, but what’s even sadder is the fact that I bet she thinks he likes her. Did you see how Angelica was acting in the café? I wanted to throw-up!” Anna giggled. “I bet they had sex, I heard that Bonnie and Angelica were both at that club on fifth with them. I bet they gave all the boys a quickie.”
They laughed together. I saw Madison start to shake her head. “Just you wait until Keith hears about this. Bonnie won’t be able to show her face at this school again.”
“Yeah, but maybe her and Angelica can be homeschooled together. I mean with the way those girls act. I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before Damon dumps her ass.” Anna chuckled then pulled out some lip stick from her hand bag. “It’s so sad how some girls act just to get a guy.”
“I know.” Madison agreed. “I mean Keith wanted to go out with me, but just when he was about to ask me out, here comes little miss slut. I mean honestly, Bonnie gives girls like us a bad name.”
“I know.” Anna agreed and messed with her hair. It looked like she was trying to fix whatever she saw was wrong with it. “She and Angelica are both one in the same.”
“And Beth is on her way.” Madison laughed. “Did you see how she was acting with that geek?”
“They’re going out, I heard. I don’t know why, she could do better. I mean honestly she could at least get a second string on the soccer team.” Anna laughed and then Madison laughed with her.
“Yeah, you know she was telling me that I need to practice more on the cheer the other day.” Madison let out an angrier breath. “I was like you have some nerve. All she does is go out with her boyfriend and well she doesn’t do anything else, really.”
“That is true. I saw her at that pizza place by the school with him the other day, all laughing and stuff.”
“I don’t even know how she can be seen with him.” Madison voice gave off an honest tone and I rolled my eyes.
I had-had enough. I was so angry right now that I wanted to punch both of the girls in their faces. I pushed opened the bathroom stall door and stared at them.
When they turned and looked at me I saw that Anna face looked shocked, but Madison face looked annoyed.
“I was wondering when you were going to come out.” Madison said dryly, and then turned to look back in the mirror. She began to touch up her make-up. “So, is anybody in there with you? A boy maybe?”
Anna giggled.
“Why don’t up just shut the hell up Madison?” I yelled.
Madison shrugged her shoulders. “I was given a mouth, so I am going to use it.”
“You were given a brain to, but you never use that, do you?”
Madison turned her eyes to me. I stared at her, in the same way she was staring at me, with angrier.
“Well Bonnie, why don’t you just run along? I’m sure the forbidden four want their little whore…..” I slapped her. It felt like it was a reflex as soon as I did it. Madison’s eyes stared at me, hardly, almost as if she could not believe what had just happened. She opened her mouth then closed it, almost as if at lost for words.
Anna just stood there looking at me as if she could not believe I had done such a thing. She twisted her face at me and folded her arms. “Who do you think you are? I could go tell a teacher and have you suspended.” She yelled.
“Shut up or you’re next.” I yelled. Anna opened her mouth then closed it. “Both of you act like your better, but you’re not.”
“Oh, get off your high horse.” Madison finally said something. She glared at me and started to grab her bag. She turned to the mirror and scanned over her face. “You are so lucky that your little hit didn’t mess up my face.” She turned to me then looked at Anna, who was frowning at me. “Come on let’s go to class before the second bell rings.”
They began to walk out of the restroom just as other girls started to walk in, letting the school bell ring, come into the restroom.
Chapter 11
Curiosity Killed the Cat
My last hour class was nothing more, but a blur. I didn’t remember a thing that was said, nor did
I remember if we did anything, in the class. All I did pretty much remember was thinking about Madison. She had gone way too far with her words. I wasn’t going to let her talk badly about my friends behind their backs.
I was going to tell Angelica and Beth, just as soon as I saw them. I wasn’t going to just let Madison talk badly about them and not tell them. I would tell Beth today, before she went to cheerleading practice, then I would tell Angelica….
Angelica, it’s funny even with last hour being nothing more than a blur, I did notice that she didn’t show up. I hoped that it had nothing to do with Damon, but something told me it did.
Even after the bell had rung and everyone, including me, had left the classroom, I kept thinking about Angelica. I didn’t want her to be hurt because of Damon. I hated that he seemed to have some kind of spell over her and wanted nothing more than to try to stop him.
But what could I do? I didn’t even know what I was up against. For all I knew they could be far worse than anything I had thought of. If that was true, then I would have to try and keep Angelica away from them.
I found that to be hard. Whatever pull Damon had over her it had to be really strong. She had nearly cut off my head, for saying, stay away from him.
She hadn’t been herself since the night we went to that club, so something must have been wrong with Damon. Angelica, if she was in her right mind, would have never continued to see Damon after what she had told me she saw in the mirror. There was just no way.
I hurried to my locker and hoped that I would find Angelica standing there waiting for me, but she wasn’t. She wasn’t anywhere to be found, neither was Beth.
After I put my things up, I walked down the hall to go to the soccer field, to find Beth. As I walked in the halls, I hoped that I would ran into Angelica, so I could talk to her about Madison, then ease my way into the topic about her and Damon.
Maybe this time if I said my words right she wouldn’t get so angry.
When I got to the doors, which led outside to the soccer field, I opened them. I walked outside. When I got close to the wide, long, and green grassed field, I noticed the spot where me and Leon had been talking.
