“What have you being doing to your past girlfriends?” I asked. I started to mess with the food on my plate. I wanted them to be honest with me. I wanted to know what they were, but I needed to know what was happening to their past girlfriends more. I needed to know what Damon was really doing to Angelica.

“We eat them.” Damon said, like it meant nothing. “Hey, I want some bread.”

“What do you mean, you eat them?” I asked and then realized I was eating the food. I put my fork down.

“That’s not human.” Nate laughed, eyeing me. “But, I could use some bread to.”

“What do you mean?” I asked folding my arms and looking at Jay. Jay didn’t look at me. He kept eating not saying anything. “What did he mean, Jay?”

Jay looked right at me. His eyes were unreadable. “We eat their souls.”

I stared at him, my eyes wide. I didn’t know what to say or really what to think. Eating people souls. That couldn’t be right. That couldn’t be possible.

My mouth opened, so I could say something, but nothing came out. I kept staring at them all.

Damon was still eating. Nate was just drinking some of his pop. Leon on the other hand was staring at me. It was like he was trying to read me. Then he started to look at me like he was staring past me, looking at someone else.

He had done this before. When he and I had talked by the soccer field, he had looked at me like that. I began to wonder about the girl in that picture. He must have known her. I wondered what she meant to him.

“I guess she’ll be like Elizabeth.” Damon said with a laugh.

I watch Leon give a sideway glance at Damon. He then got up and left the room. I stared after him and then looked at Damon.

“Damon, why did you say some shit like that?” Nate yelled. “You always say shit like that.”

“Yeah, well it’s the truth.” Damon said lightly. He kept eating and smiling. “So, you ready to run out of here yelling and screaming.”

I glared at him. “You’re sad.” I looked at Jay and took in a breath. “What do you mean by, you eat their souls?”

“He means we have none, so we have to take theirs.” Damon laughed. “You need your souls to live. We’re kind of like incubus.”

What in the world is an incubus? I thought. I thought the name sounded like I had heard it before, but I wasn’t so sure. I was about to ask, when Jay said something.

“I don’t mean that.” Jay said. His eyes were gold and blazing.

“And I wasn’t asking you.” I almost yelled at Damon. I was getting tired of the way that Damon was acting, but at the same time was happy. He was taking my mind off the fact that I should be freaking out.

“Look Bonnie.” Nate said shaking his head. “We don’t know if we are eating people souls or not, but we have to take some of their life or energy force or something. That’s why they look the way they do afterwards.”

“You mean after you kiss them?” I asked shaking my head. I was getting kind of freaked-out by all of this. I had always wanted to know what they did to their dates, but it felt weird that it was sucking someone life. “So, what happens to them now?”

“Nothing, they will be fine.” Jay said looking right at me with his blue eyes. “They are fine. They don’t even know that we did that to them.”

“So, that makes it ok?” I asked and stood up.

“Elizabeth.” Damon murmured with a smirk on his lips.

“Shut the fuck up, Damon!” Jay yelled getting up out of his seat. His chair was about to fall but Nate cut it midair.

“Guys, calm down.” Nate said. “Bonnie, Jay, why don’t you two sit down? Bonnie, I’m sure you have more questions.”

Nate was trying to keep everyone happy. I wonder now why I hadn’t always seen that in him. When I had talked to them all, he had seemed like the kind of guy to keep the peace.

I faintly remembered when I had talked to them in the park and how Nate had tried to make Damon stop acting the way he was acting now. He had even tried to keep me from getting to angry.

“I don’t think I care anymore.” I said. I looked hardly at Nate. I was being a pain, but I didn’t care at that moment. “You’re eating people and you think I should like understand.”

“We have to.” Jay tried to explain. “It’s like water for us.”

“What do you mean?” I questioned.

“We can eat other things.” Jay said as he pointed at the food on the table. “But, if we don’t eat their energy, we will die. It’s like how you have to drink water.”

“It’s not the same. If I drink water I don’t hurt people.” I said, with my arms folded. “You have been doing that to Angelica.”

Damon laughed and kept eating. “So, what? She enjoys herself.” I felt Jay arms go around me and I blinked not understanding. I then noticed that I was close to Damon, it was as if I had tried to launch at him. “I see why you like her.” Damon said still eating.

I was getting tired of seeing him eat. He kept eating like what he was saying meant nothing at all.

“Damon stop,” Nate said shaking his head. “Bonnie, we don’t like having to do what we do, but we have to. We are going to start eating more food, so we don’t have to eat so many people, ok?”

I sat back down in my chair and tried to keep my eyes from going on Damon. Jay had let me go. I stared at Nate and shook my head. “So, how did this happen to you?”

“We were born this way.” Nate said then looked at Damon and Jay. Damon kept eating not saying a word. Jay was now leaning on a wall, eyes focused on me.

“You were born this way?” I asked shaking my head. “So, you’ve been eating people since you were babies.”

I wondered how a baby could even eat a person.

“Don’t say it like that.” Nate grinned and I saw Jay laughed.

“Yeah, pet. So, you asked all of you questions, now.” Jay asked walking over to me.

“No, I have tons more.” I said running a hand through my hair. “So, you were born this way. That means that you weren’t ever human.”

“Not really.” Nate said after a few minutes of silence. He looked around the room and frowned. “Okay, I guess I’m the only one talking.”

“We were human at one time.” Jay began then set down in a chair. His blue eyes were bright, vivid and right on me. “Some of us remembered our life before becoming what we are. I don’t.”

“I do.” Nate beamed with a mouth full of food. “But it’s not really a good story, better then Damon’s.”

“Shut up.” Damon said and began to drink some of his pop. “I died in a car accident.” The word rolled out of his mouth like an afterthought.

“Then how are you born?” I asked looking at each of them. I was confused. If they were human before then why were they like this now?

“We get reborn.” Nate told me then started to eat again. “It’s kind of like reincarnation.”

“So when humans die we turn into…..what you are?” I said forgetting that I still didn’t know what they are. I was mad that I had yet asked, but was getting too involved with the questions.

  They all laughed at me.

“Bonnie, you’re funny.” Nate said hitting the table. “Very funny.”

“No, I don’t know really know what happens to humans after they die, but we were born this way.” Jay said lightly.

I looked at him and saw he was still watching me very closely. I was wondering why he was watching me like this. He seemed almost scared and that was so not like him.

“So, what are you?” I asked finally. I just could take it anymore. I wanted to know. I turned to look at Nate and saw that he was putting some more food in his mouth.

“Pixies,” Damon said. “Not good enough to get into heaven, but not bad enough to go to hell. So, now we are trapped in the world in between.”

“Damon, you’re an idiot.” Nate said laughing.

I stood there looking at them with wide eyes. He had to be lying. A Pixy. They were pixies
, they didn’t look like pixies.

“Maybe I am wrong, but aren’t pixies like Tinker Bell or something?” I said with a weird smile on my face. “And you guys don’t look her size.”

“Disney was always so nice.” Damon chuckled.

“Okay, if your pixies where are your wings?” I said wanting to laugh.

Nate started to laugh. “Why do most people always ask us that? Pixy wings aren’t manly.”

“So, do you have them?” I trailed off.

“Yes, but you can’t see them.” Damon said. His eyes were staring at Leon plate. “You think he wants that.”

“Okay, I always thought pixy were good.” I said confused. I had loved Disney as a little girl. I even at times still watch a lot of their movies. So, seeing human sized guys claiming to be pixies standing before me wasn’t something I thought I would be doing.

“Weren’t you listening to me?” Damon said. “Pixy aren’t good enough to get into heaven and….”

“Not bad enough to get into hell.” I finished off for him. “I heard, but this is kind of weird, you know. I mean why aren’t you like small and stuff?”

I sat down in my chair and stared out at them.

How in the world could they be pixies? That seemed so weird. I think I would have thought they were vampires or maybe werewolves, or even maybe some kind of alien or something. But pixies. That was weird.

I had learned pixies were sweet, kind, and would help the earth. I had never heard that pixies went around killing

“Those aren’t pixy, those are really fairies. Well children who aren’t ready to move on, they turn into those kind of fairies.” Jay told me.

“So, there are such things as fairies?” I asked.

Damon laughed. “Yeah, what do you think…..damn Nate, why you kick me?”

“Because you are pushing it.” Nate said folding his arms.

“What were you going to say, Damon?” I asked wanting to know now. It seemed for whatever reason Nate didn’t want me to know. I looked at Jay and saw his eyes where unreadable, for a moment. They soon changed and I watched as he, as well as Nate, stared at Damon, as if they were daring him to say something.

It was quiet for a moment and I was about to ask my question again. I was even thinking about asking him if he was sacred of his brothers, just to get him to answer my question.

“I was about to say,” Damon began. His eyes were staring back at his brothers just like they were staring at him. “Why do you think we try to be careful? Fairies are supposed to be good, while we’re evil. You didn’t want her to know that Nate….Jay.”

I looked back at Nate and Jay. Both of their faces were unreadable.

“You didn’t want me to know that?” I asked, but it didn’t really come out like a question. “You told me everything else. So, you guys don’t like fairies or something?”

“It should be understandable.” Nate said. “Fairies aren’t born, they get turned.”

I blinked at him. So, fairies are different.

“Fairies protect humans from us.” Jay said softly with this smirk on his face. He seemed like he was starting to go become the Jay I knew. “They are here only to kill us.”

“Because you suck the energy or life,” I began then saw Damon opened his mouth as if to correct me. I rolled my eyes. “Or whatever, from people, right?”

“Yes.” They all said at the same time.

  “Okay.” I whispered.

“But that’s kind of why a lot of people have been going missing.” Jay began and he got an angrier look from Damon.

“Hey, we can’t tell her everything.” Damon said. “She’s just your pet, they can’t know everything.”

“What?” I asked, partly forgetting about what Jay was saying. My voice had got higher then it was before. This made them all look at me. “What do you mean by his pet?”

I hated when he called me his pet. Now Damon was calling me that. I didn’t like it one bit.

“Well he hasn’t marked her yet, but….” Nate began, but I cut him off.

“What do you mean his pet?”

Nate eyes went from Jay to me. “You didn’t tell her.”

“Why should I? She should be happy. I’ve never had a pet before.” He flashed me as smile. I wanted to hit him.

Nate sighed. “A pet is someone who belongs to a pixy. The pixy is the master of the pet. Only that pixy can feed off of that pet.”

“Master!” I yelled. I was about to get up out of my chair again, but Damon put his hand on my shoulder.

“Don’t get so upset, he hasn’t marked you.” He laughed softly. “Besides, no other pixy can touch you, once he has marked you. I think it’s more for your protection than anything.”

I stared hardly at him, wondering why he was being so nice. I shook my head at the thought then looked at Jay. He had this small smirk on his face and I wanted to smack it off of him.

“What’s your problem?” I yelled. “You think you own me.”

Part of me understood what Damon had said. If I ran into another pixy, they wouldn’t hurt me because of Jay. But did I really want to belong to Jay!

Leon came to my mind. I didn’t know why, but his grey eyes, pale face, were the only thing I could think about.

I didn’t want to belong to no one, but if I had wanted to, for whatever reason, Leon was someone I wanted to protect me. To be with me.

That last thought made me blush.

“So, you like me?” Jay questioned. His tone told me it was more of a statement and that I wasn’t supposed to response. “I knew it.”

“Don’t push your luck.” I laughed. I wasn’t sure why, but how he looked at that very moment made me laugh. His eyes seemed so serious, yet so confident.

“So, what else do you want to know?” Nate said as if he was now bored with this.

“Why is Angelica acting the way she is?” I asked looking right at Damon. “And why does the whole school allow you guys to get away with everything?”

“Pixy dust.” Jay said, and then he sighed. “Are you done yet, we could have some real fun now. You know, since you pretty much know everything.”

“Pixy dust.” I said not paying his statement any mind. “I thought that stuff made you able to fly.”

“What was a Disney child, weren’t you?” Damon laughed and shook his head.

“Pixy dust makes people do what we want them to do.” Jay explained. “When we use it a human can’t help but do what we say.”

“So, you pretty much force yourself on your victims.” I said upset.

“No.” Nate said dryly. “The human has to want to kiss us or whatever. We can’t make them.”

“So, you use pixy dust on all the teachers, so they won’t mind you being late, not showing up and stuff.” I asked shaking my head. “I know a few people who would love to have that.” I thought thinking; I would love to use something like that sometimes.

“Yeah,” Damon laughed. “I hate homework.”

“You’re using that stuff on Angelica!” I yelled. The thought had just come to my mind. No, wonder Angelica was acting the way she was. He had been controlling her.

“Yeah, but only because of you.” He began to urge. “You didn’t like us together and I didn’t want her to start listening to you.”

“So, you made her obsessed with you.” I yelled.

“No, or at least I wasn’t trying to.” Damon said calmly. He picked up Leon plate and set it in front of him. “I just wanted her to not listen to you anymore. That’s it, but it kind of backed fired.”

“You think?” I said. “You will leave her alone for now on.” I said.

“Why she tastes really good?” Damon said.

“Damon, don’t mess with her friend anymore.” Jay said softly and lined back in his chair. “You done with your food, it’s going to get cold soon.”

I looked at the pasta before me. I was really hungry. I shrugged my shoulders and began to eat. I wasn’t anywhere near to done asking my questi
ons.

As I ate I saw, from the corner of my eyes, that Damon was looking at me with wide eyes.

“You are taking this pretty nicely.” He said to me. “I thought you would be more freaked out.”

“I think I will save that for later.” I said my tone full of sarcasm. “I want to think with an open mind, right now.”

“Leon’s been gone for a long time.” Damon said moving on from his own topic. “So, I know he doesn’t want to eat this.”

“Because of you.” Nate sighed. “You really went too far, you know.”

“What do you mean?” I asked after I finished the food that was in my mouth. I had to admit to myself, that Jay could really cook. He was better at cooking, then my sister. I would never tell either of them, but I thought it none the less.

“Finish eating, then you can talk to him yourself.” Nate said like he didn’t want to say anything at all about the topic.

  “Elizabeth…” Damon began.

“Shut up.” Jay growled at him.

  “Whose is she?” I asked.

“Finish eating.” Jay said shaking his head. “Leon, will talk to you. It isn’t our place to talk about that.”

I looked at Jay. I was surprised by his tone. He sounded like he didn’t want to talk at all about it. That was surprising. Maybe, he really could care about someone other than himself.

“He’ll tell you.” Nate whispered and glared at Damon, who shrugged his shoulders.

I began to eat, but I kept wondering about Elizabeth.

Once I put more food in my mouth I noticed that all of their eyes were on me. They all looked like they were waiting for something. I wasn’t sure what, but it made me feel troubled.

It was almost like I wasn’t even there to them, all of a sudden. It was like I was someone else.

  Chapter 13

  Honesty

It was silent. As I ate in front of them, it was so silent. It felt like everyone was almost afraid to speak.

My mind began to wonder off. Elizabeth came to me. I wondered who she could be. Who was she to them?

I thought about that picture I had seen in Leon’s room. Was that Elizabeth? Was she someone he liked or still liked? I wanted to know. Felt, like, I needed to know.
