Wrath of a Side Chick 3: A Chicago Hood Drama (Side Chick's Wrath) Page 4

by Tamicka Higgins

“I see,” Trina said, glad that she didn’t take the conversation toward some chick. She looked Breon up and down, seeing that he didn’t look like he’d just got done putting it down with some other chick. With her feelings somewhat at ease, she could soften back up. “I’m just glad that ain’t nothin’ bad happen and stuff,” she said. “’Cause when I woke up and saw that you still wasn’t back home and in the bed with me, I thought the worst.”

“You ain’t gotta think like that,” Breon said. “Like I told you, we really just went over there to talk to him. It wasn’t even like that. When we got done, I told him how to get in touch with Pablo that I last knew, if the nigga ain’t locked up now ‘cause I don’t know, then me and Ray got the fuck up outta there. Them streets back there look like a fuckin’ war zone. A bunch of the houses is empty and shit. Ain’t no street lights ‘cause they done been shot out and shit. We couldn’t wait to get the fuck outta there. Now that I think about it, I’m actually happy that Ray went ahead and was packin’ a little heat, cause I don’t know if I woulda felt cool and stuff bein’ back there so late at night without it.”

Trina couldn’t help but take Breon’s words for what they were worth. She was beginning to feel sleepy once more, especially when she thought about how she’d have to get up and go to work in the morning. Breon mentioned that he too had to be at work just as he was turning the kitchen light out.

Breon followed Trina back to the bedroom where the two of them climbed into the bed.

“I love you,” Breon said, speaking softly into Trina’s ear. She was secure in his arms, feeling the warmth of his body against her back.

Trina then noticed the way his heart was beating. It was somewhat rapid. After some thought toward whether or not she’d say anything, Trina opted to fall asleep. Her breathing soon becoming rhythmic, and it didn’t take her very long to get back into deep sleep. Like so many women, the comfort of a man in the bed with her would help her sleep through the night.

Breon lifted his head and looked over at Trina’s face once he noticed that she’d been breathing at a steady pace. He quickly saw that she’d fallen asleep, leaving him awake and in thought. With the back of his head pressed into the pillow, he looked up at the ceiling. His eyes had adjusted to the dark enough that he could see figures, such as the silhouette of the dresser, as well as the entrance to the master bathroom. Every doorway, which once represented the nice apartment in which they lived, now caused Breon to think twice. It was another dark hole where this nigga Dante could be hiding.

Breon tried to shake it off, saying that he was being too paranoid. He couldn’t think of a way that Dante would find out where he and Trina lived. However, not being able to find him only made things worse.

“Fuck,” Breon said, the words slipping out of his mouth as he’d forgotten that he was lying next to Trina. He checked to see if she’d woken up. Finding that she hadn’t, he went back to thinking.

I wish we woulda got that nigga Dante tonight. He gon’ come out shootin’ at us and shit, try’na blame me for him gettin’ locked up and shit. I never thought I’d wanna kill somebody, but what he did to Wayne just wasn’t right. I don’t know who told him that shit was coo, but it was fucked up ‘cause now that nigga got a bullet on his head. He just don’t know it yet. Whatever I gotta do to dip in the streets and get this nigga, I’mma do it.

When Breon looked over at Trina again, the feelings in his heart came up. He loved this chick so much. She’d always been there for him, and continued to be supportive. His family liked her from the very first time they met, and she wanted a better life just like he did. There were so many reasons that Breon wanted Trina to be his wife. And he never really thought he’d go for the marriage thing. Breon took a moment to imagine what it would be like to propose to Trina down in Gatlinburg.

Breon felt himself getting sleepy, finally. The cold that had filled his body from being outside for quite some time tonight had finally seeped out. He warmed up, under the sheets, as he held Trina. Breon soon enough fell asleep, unaware of the dire conditions Nikki was under, held captive in a strange house on the west side. In the deep of his sleep, Breon was comfortable, yet aware. His biggest concern was Trina’s safety, causing him to sleep with both ears listening and one eye open.

Breon woke up within thirty minutes, when he’d heard his phone vibrating in his pants pocket on the floor. Now was not the time to ignore his phone. He reached down with his free arm and reached for the pant leg of his pants. After a few grabs, he finally pulled his pants toward his side of the bed.

  CHAPTER 4

With her head between the two pillows, Nikki tried her best to breeze steadily as she waited on Breon to answer. She simply couldn’t allow a sneeze to come through, especially at this moment. Yes, it sounded as if the guy out in the hallway – Edric – had fallen asleep in the chair. However, she wasn’t sure. And to make matters even worse, she didn’t know how soon it would be before the other two guys would be coming back.

“Why the fuck ain’t he answering?” Nikki asked herself out loud, but whispering. The layer of desperation over her voice was thick. “Come on, Breon. Answer. Answer.”

Soon enough, Nikki was listening to Breon’s voicemail. She cringed as she hung up. After glancing toward the bedroom door once more, she tried again. She didn’t care if he was still out with Ray, going wherever they were going with those semi-automatics, or lying up with that bitch he called his girlfriend, he was going to answer the phone. Nikki could feel herself getting a bit angry as she thought about how she was only in this horrible situation because of Breon. Hell, she thought, I’m caught up, and I just brought a box out to him. This is so fucked up.

Once again, Breon didn’t answer. Frustrated, Nikki slammed her phone into the pillow. She calmed down then unlocked her phone and typed out a text message to Breon. Call me ASAP. It’s an emergency. I got kidnapped!!!

After she sent the text, Nikki looked at the bedroom door. She decided that she’d have to take matters into her own hands. She thought about it for a moment, coming to the conclusion that she’d try to make a run for it by going down the steps. She felt like if she moved quick enough, and if the guy was sleeping deep enough, she’d be able to get around him. However, all of this depended on where exactly he was sitting.

Nikki slid out of the bed and began to walk slowly toward the bedroom door. Like most old houses, her footsteps creaked because of the old hardwood floors under the carpet. She walked as lightly as she possibly could until she was standing against the door. She slowed her own breathing down so she could hear the man’s breathing. He was practically snoring, which was a good sign for Nikki. To her, he sounded as if he was sleeping deeply.

Nikki then looked at the doorknob. She wanted to open the bedroom door as slowly and softly as she could. All she needed was a good inch so she could look out and see where he was sitting. After looking at the gap between the door and the carpet and seeing that it was too narrow for her to get down on the ground and look out into the hallway, she knew that this would be her only way. Once she saw this, she’d close the door and get ready to make a run for it after thinking for a moment.

Just as Nikki reached for the doorknob, the text message alert sounded from her cell phone. Nikki’s heart skipped a beat as she looked over toward the bed, pulling her hand away from the doorknob. Quickly, she stepped over to the bed and jumped in, putting her head into the pillow. After seeing that the man in the hallway hadn’t heard the alert noise, she unlocked her phone and went to her text messages. It was a reply from Breon. She opened it.

Breon: What the fuck is you talkin’ about?

Nikki’s nostrils flared, as she got a strange feeling that Breon didn’t believe her. It bothered her because she knew she had no reason to lie about something like that. Nikki responded.

Nikki: I told you, Breon. I got kidnapped.

Breon: By who? When? I saw you earlier Nikki.

  Nikki: I don’t know who. I don’t know
these dudes. They took me to a house and they holding me hostage here.

Breon: When? Why don’t you call the police?

Nikki knew that if she were face to face with Breon, he would get an up close and personal introduction to her bad side. In many ways, Nikki thought of herself as Hurricane Nikki when she was angry. If this man hadn’t been sleeping out in the hallway, she’d call Breon and really let him know how she was feeling.

Nikki: Breon, you act like I can call the police and they won’t catch me on the phone talking and stuff. These are the people you got a problem with. They came and busted in my door when you left the apartment. Come get me! Call the police! They’re going to kill me!!!

Nikki looked at the door for a moment, making sure that her phone text message alert was on vibrate only. Her phone then vibrated with another text message from Breon.

Breon: What you want me to tell the police? Where are you? What kinda car was they driving?

Nikki: A green van is all I remember seeing. Three dudes. And one, this scary looking nigga that look like he just got out of jail or some shit, was asking about you and stuff. Who are these dudes? Come get me, Breon!

Breon: Oh shit! That’s Dante. That’s the dude me and my buddy went looking for. Where did he get you from?

Nikki: Breon, he was watching you when you came and got the box with the guns in it from my apartment earlier. Them niggas was sitting over there, I guess in the parking lot watching! They even asked what was in the box.

Breon: Fuck. You ain’t tell them that we was having you save the guns, did you? We ain’t want them to know what we got and shit.

Nikki: WTF?!?! You worried about them knowing, and I’m telling you that these niggas that are after you done came to my house and kidnapped me and stuff. Breon, you need to do something about this right now. Come get me! Don’t you know where these people are or something?!?! They took me to some house that don’t even look lived in.

Breon: I mean, what you want me to do, Nikki? Look at what time it is. I’m in bed with my girl and stuff and you know she would raise hell if I just got up and left like this, in the middle of the night, when I already had to go handle some business. And you know if I call the police, Dante is just going to fuck up and probably kill your ass.

Nikki felt her soul drop as she read Breon’s text. No matter how she read these words, she couldn’t help but feel like Breon saw her as nothing. She was in this situation because of him, and he has the nerve to bring up his girlfriend as if she’s more important. Nikki let out a deep breath and shook her head as she glanced at the bedroom door. She turned back to her phone, deciding that she was going to let Breon have a piece of her mind. He needed to understand that he needed to get up and come find her right now.

Nikki: Nigga, what the fuck is you talking about? I’m telling you that I done got kidnapped and shit and you making excuses for why you can’t come?!?!?! My life is really fucking in danger right now. I mean, I told you that three niggas came and took me out of my house. That should be enough to make you want to jump out of bed and come do something about it. This don’t make no fucking sense. They calling me your side chick and stuff and I’m like I ain’t even known him for a week yet. I thought you was better than that. Fuck that bitch you lying next to, ‘cause she obviously can’t do shit for you. You was all over this ass and up in my pussy with that dick, and I even took a risk…a big risk…to keep them guns for you. Now I’m the fucking one that is being held in some dusty ass, old house somewhere! Come get me and call the police! These niggas is crazy!!!

Nikki’s thumbs were literally tired after sending such a long text message. She looked up toward the ceiling as she took deep breaths. No matter how long she’d been in this bedroom at this point, it was anything but somewhere she could fall asleep. Even if she were being kept here for an entire week she would never get a single night’s sleep. The anxiety from thinking of what would be coming through the door at any moment was just too much. It gnawed at her mind as she looked around the room. Each look revealed something new to her that she hadn’t seen before. At first, the bedroom was just a room with a bed and chair in it. As the minutes passed – time that Nikki waited for Breon to reply – she noticed that there were a couple of pictures on the walls. In the dark, she couldn’t make out the pictures. She then remembered some of the things in the closet, like an air mattress and a couple of boxes of odds and ends. Everything looked as if it hadn’t been touched in months. Nikki began to gasp as she wondered if she was being held captive in a dead person’s house. She wanted to scream.

Breon responded to Nikki, finally. Damn, what the fuck you want me to do? No matter what I do, you’re going to get killed. If I call the police, the fucking shootout with the police that I know Dante would probably have at this point would kill you. And you know how quick they are to shoot niggas nowadays. Then, I don’t even know where you are. I mean, I would get up and come help you, but you ain’t even got nothing to tell me. Did they put a blindfold over your eyes or something? You ain’t see nothing when you was on the way to wherever you are?

Nikki: Naw, nigga. I was a little too fucking distraught. I couldn’t believe what the fuck was happening. It all happened so fast. They forced their way inside my house and shit, kicked in the damn door, and took me with them. They told me to stay down in the back of the van, with guns pointed at me and stuff. I was so scared. All I saw was that I’m somewhere near Sacramento

Breon: Sacramento? That don’t tell me nothing, Nikki. Shit, a nigga need more than that. You know that Sacramento is a long ass street. When my girl get up and leave in the morning to go to work, I can get with my buddy and we can figure out where you are, but I don’t know what you want me to do about it now. I mean, you really don’t know where you are?

Nikki: Naw, nigga. I don’t. I can’t fucking believe this. I gave you this pussy and now I’m the one who got fucking kidnapped, and you won’t get up and come do nothing because you so committed to that bitch over there. Fuck her! Fuck you! You don’t come and do something right now, you’re going to be sorry nigga. Swear to God, don’t get up and come help me right now out of this situation that you got me into and I swear to God you’re going to be sorry. I can’t fucking believe this. What if they do something to me? Huh? What if they do something to me?

There was a pause of several seconds before Breon finally responded: I told you already, Nikki. Ain’t nothing we can do right now. I already know that if I call my nigga to help me come find you, he not going to answer. He knocked the fuck out. Look, my girl get up and go to work at 7:30, usually. That ain’t that long, okay? As soon as she get up and get going and gone and stuff, a nigga is going to come looking for you. I will call off work and stuff, okay?

Realizing that there was nothing she could say to get Breon to get up and leave his chick, Nikki thought more clearly. She came to the conclusion that she was in this herself. The fury of being devalued caused her blood to practically boil. Flashbacks of when she’d bent over and arched her back for Breon passed through her mind. He had a chance at some of the best pussy probably in Chicago, and she was never a human being to him.

Nikki then thought about the fight at Wayne’s house – at the coming home party for Jayron when he got out of prison. Breon seemed to really care about her well-being, since the other people at the party weren’t so concerned. He’d walked her upstairs, being the utmost gentlemen. Nikki suddenly felt very stupid, as well as very angry. She felt as if she’d been fooled, realizing that Breon was just like any other man that she’d dealt with in the past. He was only taking advantage of her weak moment, especially since her shirt and bra had been ripped off.

“And I sucked that nigga’s dick out in his fucking SUV,” Nikki said to herself, nearly soundless.

Trying to put this obvious diss by Breon to the side, Nikki went to her contacts so she could reach out and get in touch with Gracelyn. As she thought about the things that Gracelyn had said to her, she quit with calling her. Nikki thou
ght about calling the police. If she spoke with a voice that was quiet enough, she could surely tell the police what was going on. They would also, probably and hopefully, be able to track her cell phone signal and find her location. Breon’s words did make her think twice, however. She wondered if calling the police would make matters worse. If they were bold enough to kick her door in and kidnap her, with their faces showing and everything, then they probably wouldn’t really have anything to lose by killing her. The thought of it all made Nikki want to scream.

Nikki eventually broke down and decided that she’d just go ahead and text Gracelyn. There was no way that Gracelyn had slept through the door being kicked in. She could sleep pretty hard, but surely not that deep.

Nikki texted Gracelyn, asking her if she called the police. She then explained what happened all over again through her text message. Soon enough, her phone was ringing. There were people talking in the background.

“Nikki?” Gracelyn asked. “Where are you, girl? I heard the door being kicked in, and I was so scared. When I came out of the bedroom, I saw that you was gone. At first, I ain’t think nothin’ of it because I had heard you go out the door like right before it happened or something and I thought that maybe you had just left, and somebody came to rob us because they thought wasn’t nobody home. But then I saw that wasn’t nothing gone but you. Where are you, Nikki? Why ain’t you talking?”

“Gracelyn?” Nikki whispered. “Girl, I got kidnapped. They kicked the door in and kidnapped me. Who is that in the background? Is that the police?”

“Kidnapped?” Gracelyn asked. “Girl, who kidnapped you? Where did they take you?”

Nikki shook her head, really wondering how she could possibly be expected to know where she was when she was kidnapped and taken into the night. It was all so much like a movie to her; it was so unreal.
