Aya took a deep breath, “I am not sure if I get it completely but during the retraining she repeatedly seemed to seek out and confront her fears. It was almost a compulsion and I think it was all in preparation for facing this one, the central fear. I think this is what has blocked her for so long and she instinctively knows this too. If we deny her this, it will just grow in her imagination. I believe she has the strength to do it, with both of us there.”
JD frowned and nodded, “Speaking of us being there, one of us will have to be here when she wakes.”
“Without question, if it would please my Master, I have a few things to deal with regarding the guard assignments, and then I can be with her through the night.”
The mood of the few guards in the hut was subdued as Aya posted the new guard schedule. No one had a leave for the next three days. All the guards were working double shifts going over the island with a fine toothed comb in preparation of an official inspection for any lapses and safety issues. Aya was determined that no more sloppy Mistakes like burned out cameras or ladders absentmindedly left out were going to happen again and she made that fact very clear to everyone involved. Woe to anyone that had a tool Missing, a lock rusty or broken. Things were going to tighten up around here.
She held a private meeting with the guard who had fallen asleep, evaluating if he was feeling still committed to continuing in his post here on the island. “I am well aware that this is a very unusual and demanding job, one with both liabilities and benefits. It is not a job for everyone. I am sure that the Master could find you a position somewhere else in his corporation that would be perhaps less difficult. Of course I cannot say whether the benefits would be quite so, shall we say, enjoyable?”
The guard shook his head urgently, “No, Ma’am, please, I like it here. I am sorry about the Mistake. I promise it won’t happen again.”
Aya nodded, her eyes serious, “We will speak again in one month. Until then, be very aware that I am watching you.” The man gulped and nodded. Aya did not have any doubts that in one month’s time when she praised him, and reduced the Master’s restriction by a few weeks, she would have a very dedicated guard that would not only perform his duties carefully, but would also work hard to keep his fellow guards as tightly disciplined as he was.
When Aya returned to Faith’s room, JD was sitting by her bed, his hand trapped in hers, holding a book awkwardly in his other hand as he read to pass the time. Aya looked curiously at Faith’s hand, and he shrugged, “She sort of woke up for a little bit, maybe a dream. She got hold of me.”
Aya gently unwound the sleeping girl’s fingers, slipping her hand in place of their Master’s and whispered, “Never thought we would get so tangled up in this one. But you know I am starting to really like her.”
JD s and stroked back Aya’s dark hair. “You are right. This one is special, like our Marc, or Adriana, she sort of worms her way into your heart.” He kissed her on the forehead, “It would be permitted to love them, you know.
Aya blinked and looked up at him, her eyes soft and uncertain, “But…” and then she softened and s, “But there will always only be one Master.”
Faith slept restlessly, each time her grip on Aya’s hand loosened, she would twist, frown, mumble and her hand would clutch tightly once again.
It was in the early morning hours when she woke and blinked in the pale morning light. Aya sat dozing, her head tipped back, her arm outstretched. Faith stared at their clasped hands, on fair, the other dark. The memories of the day before stood out sharp and clear, the trial, the pain and the absolution it brought, but after that it grew confusing. It was hard to figure out which were dreams and what was real. She stared at her hand again, a clear sharp memory of her trying to let go and being completely unable, her words of fear to her Mistress, “I can’t,” echoing in her Mind. Experimentally she relaxed her hand and let go. The feeling of relief at regaining some small amount of control fought with the surge of protest.
Aya’s eyes opened and looked down at her, “Welcome back, little slave.”
“Was I gone?” Involuntarily she started to reach for Aya’s hand again and, grimacing, she stopped herself. Touching her Mistress without permission was wrong and Faith knew it. “Sorry, Mistress.”
Aya shrugged, “Gone? No, just lost inside yourself. Tell me what you remember.”
Faith hesitated, trying to organize the images in her head, “I remember the trial and I remember my punishment,” she paused frowning, “at least I think I remember it; most of it? I don’t remember it ending exactly, but I do remember someone, you I think, putting a blanket over me. After that it gets foggy. I remember you telling me to let go of your hand and feeling so afraid when I couldn’t. It wasn’t like I was disobeying; it was like it wasn’t my hand anymore.” Faith stared at her hand and flexed her fingers. “I remember Master talking to me, but I can’t remember what he said.” She hesitated and blushed. “I remember telling him he could fuck me now if he wanted, saying it was the last thing left.” Faith’s voice faltered and her eyes widened with fear.
Aya spoke softly, “And he told you it wasn’t the last thing.”
Faith swallowed painfully, “Yeah, I remember that now.” Abruptly she tried to sit up, a grim, determined expression on her face, but as she flexed her muscles she gasped and moaned, “Oh, Mistress, I hurt.”
“You are remembering your punishment. You will remain lying down, resting and healing until the doctor releases you.”
“But…”
“No buts, your Master will decide when and you will wait,” Aya paused and stared hard at Faith, “…obediently.”
Somehow her Mistress’s assertion sent a wave of calmness over Faith. A tiny smile quivered on her lips, “Yes, Mistress, your slave hears and obeys, but if this slave my humbly ask, would it be permitted to rise long enough to go to the bathroom?”
Aya could not help but laugh, “Yes that is permitted, but I do not want you trying to stand on your own at first.” She slipped her arm under the slave girl’s shoulders, lifting and supporting, ignoring the girl’s hisses and stifled groans as she tottered into the bathroom.
As she sat down, Faith shuddered softly, “Mistress, it isn’t only my skin, it’s my whole body.”
“You fought your restraints hard, little slave. Your body remembers its struggles.”
Carefully leaning on Aya’s arm Faith hobbled back to her bed, “I’m glad it happened.”
Aya did not answer.
Chapter 21: Epilogue
Faith stood on the bluff looking out to the sea. Master had always loved the sea and the last few years he had begun to spend more and more time here, staring out at the waves. She was not surprised when he told them that he wanted to have his ashes scattered here, though Marc had irrepressibly quipped to his face that it would have been more suitable to tan and braid his hide and use his long bones to make whips.
In the end it had been only Aya, Marc and her left on the island. All the others had been sent away, some freed to find their way, others given to new Masters, even Adriana had gone to live with one of her daughters after Jimmy had died. JD had not wanted any of them there to see him in the last stages of the cancer. JD had even tried to send Marc away as well, but Marc had obstinately refused every effort to make him leave.
Even the Doctor and tiffany had made their goodbyes. Faith secretly believed the Doctor had left JD a bottle of something to make his passing quick and easy. He had certainly been fine the night before and he had uncharacteristically demanded to be alone for the night. Aya had found him in the morning, a peaceful look on his face. He died two weeks short of his 81 birthday.
She smoothed her hair away from her face, wondering why she had gone so grey when Aya seemed unchanged. The years had been easy on all of them and Faith swore it was the happiness they had found on the island.
She let the handful of ashes trickle from her fingers, watching them catch and carry up on the wind. Strangely she did not feel like crying,
just felt light and empty. She had cried all the tears she needed when she first realized JD was going to die and there was nothing that could be done to prevent it.
She turned, looking back at the small group. It came as no surprise that Marc’ face was wet with tears but Aya still looked frozen, her face expressionless. Faith knew of all of them, Aya was perhaps the most devastated by JD’s passing, yet she showed nothing.
The reading of the will had been shocking and for Faith terrifying. JD had left her a frightening amount of money in his will. It had come as no surprise that he left the island to Aya. But the Millions of dollars put in a Cayman Island bank account in her name staggered her. What would she do with money like that? The fact that Marc had a similar amount was Mind boggling. Faith had a sense that JD had been rich but she had had no idea of how rich.
Aya’s voice was soft, resigned. “You are free to go if you wish.”
For the first time in almost a lifetime, Faith’s old demon turned in its grave, “Free, you could get free.”
Swallowing down the agony of that thought, Faith took a deep shuddering breath, “And you, what are you going to do? Are you going to leave?”
For the first time Aya’s face looked stricken, her eyes filling with tears, “Where would I go?”
Faith held out her hands, “I don’t know. But where ever that is, that is where you will find me.”

Chapter 1: Summer Time
Summer break finally begins; I’ve been waiting for this for way too long. No more finals or eight AM wake ups, all I have to do is work part time at the department store and enjoy the warm weather. It will be good to see the old gang from high school and find new adventures to get into with them. This should be an interesting summer for sure.
There isn’t a better time of the year than the summers here in town. The lake is always packed, the restaurants are constantly full and the shopping malls are filled with everyone from teenagers to adults. I know by the end of the summer I will be begging for school to return, but for now I will just enjoy the time I have. Work is always easy, all I have to do is be nice to customers and show them where things are. Most of the customers will be people that I’ve known my entire life, so I mostly just talk more than I work.
Today isn’t any different than any other work day. I see Jessica’s mom and we start chatting about my college experience. Out the corner of my eye I see the older bearded man that comes in here quite often. I have to admit, I do have a bit of a crash on him. This fit, gorgeous man always wears a nice shirt and tie which adds to his sexy appeal. He always makes me feel so shy when I help him. Last week I helped him find a beverage cooler for a party at the lake he was attending. He told me that he goes to the lake every couple of weeks with friends and ever since then he speaks to me whenever we cross paths. I’m not one hundred percent sure, but I believe he was flirting with me the last time we spoke. I’m bad at detecting that kind of thing. I quickly exit the conversation with Jessica’s mom, to greet my crush.
“Hope all is well Allison” He says
“Yes, everything is great Mister David”
“I told you to call me David. Mister makes me sound way too old”
“Okay David” I say while looking away trying not to look into his beautiful brown eyes.
“Have you started to enjoy your summer break yet?”
“It hasn’t been bad” I say
“Do you plan on doing anything special? The weather should be beautiful. It’s the perfect time of the year for you to explore”
“I don’t have any plans yet besides hanging out with friends”
“Do you plan on going to the lake, it’s always a good time up there?” He asks
“I know, I love the lake. I haven’t been there yet this year, but plan to”
“Well, one of my friends is throwing a party there this weekend, why don’t you come up and say hi, I think you will like it”
“Sure, I don’t have much else going on” I say a bit too eagerly
“Here is my number 287-521-3214 call me on Saturday I’ll give you all the details” he says before walking away
“Okay, I will Mister, I mean David” I say while blushing
I look around to see if anyone is looking, it seems Jessica’s mom didn’t run off too far, and I see her chuckling down the aisle. O great I thought, now she thinks I’m a sugar baby or something. A strong sense of nervousness takes over my body. How will this party be, he is almost twenty years my senior, but still that guy looks amazing. Maybe it’s his maturity or his beard or how smooth he is. This should be interesting.
Saturday couldn’t come any sooner. I’m so nervous to call David, but I fight through it. While talking to him on the phone, he lets me know exactly where he will be on the lake and I let him know I’ll be there in fifteen minutes. When I arrive, I call him and he comes out to the parking lot to show me where the party is.
“Glad you could make it Allison”
“Me too”
“I like your sunglasses, really nice. Come on I’ll give you a tour of the boat and introduce you to everyone” He says
Checking him out, everything about him looked great and for once he didn’t have a tie on. He was more casual, wearing a tight gripping polo shirt showing off his wonderful pectoral muscles. When I arrive to the boat I was stunned at how massively beautiful it was, I figured it would be nice but I did not expect this. David kindly introduces me to everyone and gives me a tour of the glamorous white boat which was ironically named “Amanda”
“How do you like it” He ask
“It’s great, I didn’t expect it to be so big and luxurious”
“Never been on one like it before, huh?”
“No, I haven’t, but I’m not complaining” I say while smiling like a school girl looking at her crush
“Come on, follow me” David takes the lead and walks me over to the bar
“What do you want to drink? You can order whatever you want here, it’s open bar”
“Summer Daiquiri” I quickly tell the bartender. If I learned anything in college it was how to order a good drink. David followed
up by ordering a beer.
“Follow me Allison” I follow and we go to our own small corner of the boat
“How’s the daiquiri?” he asks, while I take a sip
“Very sweet, I can barely taste the alcohol”
“Be careful, the bartender Tim is an expert, I’ve seen many grown men bigger than you not make it out of here in one piece” He says while pointing his finger at me
“I promise I’ll be careful”
“You know you look much better without your generic department store clothes on” David mentions
“Thanks, I know I hate those things, and hey you don’t have your normal shirt and tie today”
“Yes, this is my weekend attire” he replies
“What do you do by the way, you always look so important and serious walking in the store”
“I’m a hedge fund manager. And I remember you telling me you go to the University right, what is your major”
“Journalism”
“That’s great, I used to want to be a writer when I was a boy, but then I realized I couldn’t write worth a damn”
