It wasn’t the Indians who killed the Welsh off. It was the other Welsh, just as they have always done in their own homeland. And that is what we are still doing today in Lazard County. So maybe I’ll take the papers back from the lawyer and burn them and smash the computer. Maybe it’s better to leave everything as it’s always been, a cruel legend that gave hope to far too many, only to lead them to hidden and forgotten graves.

About The Authors
Nikolaus Cook
Having lived in California, Japan, Costa Rica, Connecticut, Scotland, and now Washington, Nikolus Cook pales when asked where he’s from. With more influences than hometowns, he believes strongly in cross-pollination of principles between arts, as he has learned more about poetry from illustration and stand-up comedy than MFA classes.
Gary Gray
Gary Gray is a freelance writer who also has a real job. He is a graduate of Portland State University and Willamette University College of Law. His articles have been published in The Seattle Times, the Portland Tribune, and The Guardian. He lives in Seattle with his wife and their two cats.

Jonathan Hansen
Jonathan Hansen has worked behind counters, in cubicles, and among rows of corn. He’s run the projection booth at movie theatres. He’s been on-line tech support, a site manager for film shoots, and the service coordinator at a cemetery in the middle of Hollywood. He now lives in Minneapolis with his wife and his cats, just another working man trying to keep a little change in his pocket and maybe finish a few writing projects along the way.
Fred McGavran
Fred McGavran is a graduate of Kenyon College and Harvard Law School, and served as an officer in the Navy in Vietnam. In June 2010 he was ordained a deacon in the Diocese of Southern Ohio, where he serves as Assistant Chaplain at Episcopal Retirement Homes. The Ohio Arts Council awarded him a $10,000 Individual Achievement Award for “The Reincarnation of Horlach Spenser,” a story that appeared in Harvard Review. Black Lawrence Press published The Butterfly Collector—his award winning collection of short stories. He taught English Composition, Literature, and Environmental Science for four years in Mendota Heights, MN.
