I pulled his other arm toward me, stroking his forearm. I kissed the place where Talon’s right hand once was. “I love you too,” I said simply. But I meant something deeper. What I mean to say to Talon Ivanov, my mate, was ‘for all your faults and all our fights, for the nights we couldn’t get enough of each other and the days when we could barely stand the sight of the other, you have my heart.’
Talon heard the words I said and the words I didn’t say. “Sheree,” he whispered. “I’ll try my damnest. I can’t swear that I’ll be a perfect mate or even a pale shadow of one, but I’ll stay out of the darkness. For you, and for the boys.”
“The darkness.” I sighed and looked over to the window above the kitchen sink. The sun was slowly rising over Luna Junction. “Are they still out there?” I asked.
He knew what I meant. The wolves. “Somewhere,” he said, and pulled me back down the floor. “But not here. And not today.”
I giggled like a school girl, teasing him. “Again?”
“Again,” he insisted and we rocked together in our familiar dance. It was as good as it always had been, as it always would be.
When it was over he raised himself on his elbows and looked at me seriously. “I don’t know what to give you,” he said, “that can match what you’ve done for me, for us.”
I sat up and placed his hand on my belly, raising an eyebrow. “How about if we try for a daughter this time?”
