He thought about her question then grinned. “That’s nice, but I’d prefer going back to Houston. There’s a little jazz club I’d like to take you to.”
“Jazz club, huh? Sounds amazing.”
His heart swelling, he leaned down, capturing her mouth. The taste of her was somehow even sweeter. When he eased back, he patted her ass and whispered into her ear. “Then we’re going to get a hotel room and I’m going to whip your ass raw.”
“For what?”
“For disobeying me. You left your quarters.”
Veronica exhaled and leaned her head against his chest. “I guess I did. I’m certain you will show me the error of my ways.”
He rubbed the back of her head as he looked once again at the crowd of people. He’d never been one to care about parties or festivities. Perhaps it was time for a change. After all, he’d fallen hard. “Every day.”
