A Hockey Player's Proposal (Oh Captain, My Captain #2) Page 11

  “Out,” Brody repeats.

Bonkers jumps off the bed and leaves the room. Brody presses his hips into mine, watching me carefully for a reaction.

I smirk. “You’re going to have to do better than that.”

He chuckles and leans back. He hooks his fingers into my panties and tugs, so I lift my hips for him to pull them off. Brody scoots down on the bed, putting a hand on each knee, and spreads my legs. He looks at me with a hungry grin before he begins to kiss down my thigh.

Heat pours over my body. “Brody, I want you,” I half-heartedly protest.

“You’re going to have to do better than that.” He throws my words back at me as he continues to kiss me, getting closer to where I’m ready and wet for him.

The second his hot mouth touches me, I let out a deep, breathy sigh. He licks and sucks, blissfully tormenting me with his tongue and then both his tongue and fingers. Brody keeps pushing me higher and just when I’m on the brink, he stops to kiss his way up my stomach. My chest rises and falls with each pant, but all I can think about is having him inside me. Maybe I really am selfish.

I don’t wait for him to finish his journey up my chest. I tug him up, making him chuckle, and my hands reach for his cock only to hit clothes.

“What the fuck?” I grumble, my hands frantically pushing his boxers down. Brody opens his mouth, but before he can say anything, I shake my head. “Now. I need you right now.” I’m already having to keep my hips from lifting to make contact. Brody grabs a condom from my nightstand. I take it, rip it open, and roll it on him. For a moment, my hand runs up and down his shaft before guiding him into me.

This is what I wanted. His cock fills me perfectly, my hips bucking up to push him further inside. That’s all the persuasion Brody needed. He thrusts into me harder, and I yell out his name. He pauses, pulls out to tease me with his tip, and I tell him to roll over. Brody lays on his back, and I quickly move over him. My hand finds his cock once more, so I push him back into me. I lay my hands on his chest for balance, his hands grabbing my hips, and I start to move up and down.

I’m slow at first, my head falling back at the feel of him in me, but then I bounce up and down faster. His fingertips dig into my hips. Brody uses his hold to bring me down harder.

“Oh God, Brody,” I moan, clenching around him.

The pressure increases, both us us getting tighter, and then Brody lifts his hips to slam into me as I come down on him. We hit our release at the same time. Ecstasy rolls through me in waves, wiping out all my energy as I lean forward to rest on his chest. We lay there in silence for a few minutes. I have no urge to move at all. My entire body feels weak, but satiated. Brody lifts me slowly, pulling out, and then lays me to the side before he gets up to clean himself up and throw the condom away.

Now I’m the one sprawled on the bed. When he comes back, I say, “I wish we could have sex all day, every day.”

Brody laughs. “We can once we retire.”

“Looking forward to it.” He puts his boxers back on and then some pajama pants, but he doesn’t get back in bed with me. “What are you doing?”

“I’m starving, Selene. I’m going to go fix breakfast.” He leans over, kisses my forehead, and adds, “You stay here as long as it takes for you to get your energy back. If you’re still here when I get done, I’ll bring your food up.”

“Maybe I’ll stay here anyway, so I can have breakfast in bed,” I say, almost in retort.

“Whatever you want, baby.” He grins and then leaves me.

I do end up having breakfast in bed. We both take a shower before watching movies together, deciding that we don’t need to leave the house today. Brody talks to his lawyer a couple of times throughout the day and each time, it dampens my mood. I’m leaning my hip against the kitchen counter, watching as he plays with Bonkers in the living room. I came in here to refill my drink, but I got lost in observing him. He notices, gets up, and comes into the kitchen to stand in front of me, grabbing my hips.

“What are you thinking about?” He frowns slightly and I wonder if I look upset.

I bunch the front of his shirt in my hands, smiling up at him. “You. And I was feeling pretty lucky to have you here.”

  “Was?” he questions.

“I meant that I am. C’mon. Let’s go finish watching the movie.” He lets me drag him back to the couch where Bonkers jumps into his lap. I think Brody has stolen my dog from me. We watch crummy movies for the rest of the day. It feels good to be able to relax and do nothing all day.

Brody gets up to use the restroom. It’s about six, and I’m getting hungry again. A knock sounds at the door. Fear ices my blood. I shouldn’t be scared by someone knocking on my door, but I am. God, I hate that girl. Part of me wants to wait for Brody, but the knock comes again. I get up and open the door slowly. Bonkers rushes to the man, wagging his tail like crazy.

His face is clean shaven, his eyes the same blue, and his lips the same shade of red as Brody’s. I can hear noise from the bathroom, so I know this can’t be Brody. Besides, his hair is shorter than Brody’s. My mouth opens, but no words come out. The man’s eyebrows lift. He’s waiting for me to say something, but I got nothing. He’s Brody’s clone.

“Hey, you must be Selene,” he finally says. “I’m Bradley. Brody’s brother?”

  Oh. Oh. That makes sense.

  “We’re twins,” he adds.

I knew Brody had a twin brother, but I had forgotten they were identical twins. Holy hell, there are two of them. Two perfectly hot humans that look just alike, but my brain starts picking up on the subtle differences. Bradley’s hair is shorter, his smile lopsided, and his lips aren’t as full as Brody’s. When he clears his throat, it hits me that I’ve been staring.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t know you were going to, uh, look like Brody,” I manage. “Please, come in.”

Just then Brody reemerges and I’ve never been more thankful. I made a fool of myself already in front of his brother. He greets Bradley with a wide smile and a big hug. I stay by the door, wondering how I’m going to be able to make up for gawking at my boyfriend’s brother in disbelief and like he was a yummy piece of meat. The boys turn towards me now that their reuniting is over.

“We’re good looking, we know,” Bradley says with a laugh.

I give him a little glare. “I wasn’t prepared, that’s all. We can go sit in the kitchen.” I start that way and ask over my shoulder if he would like something to drink.

  “Yes, please.”

“I’ll get it, Selene,” Brody tells me.

That leaves me no choice but to sit down with Mr. Look-a-like. Bonkers lays at my feet, not at all thrown by the fact that there are twins in my kitchen. “Did you have a good trip?” I ask because I have no clue what else I’m supposed to do.

“Yes, I did. Thanks for asking. Brody said you two were having a little trouble, so of course, I had to come help my little brother.” He smirks.

Brody sets his drink down in front of him and then sits next to me with a shake of his head, but he’s smiling a little. “Three minutes, Bradley. And it’s not a little trouble we’re having either.”

Both of their smiles are gone. I reach over and take Brody’s hand. “Did you already tell him?” I ask.

  “Yeah, except for last night.”

“What happened last night?” Bradley asks with concern.

Brody’s jaw clenches. “She showed up here again. Said a bunch of nonsense and told me that it wasn’t over and wouldn’t be until I was with her. We’ve both got restraining orders against her.”

“Then you don’t need to talk to her. If she comes near you, you call the cops. Let them deal with her. That’s the purpose of the order,” Bradley interrupts.

“I know. I just didn’t expect her to be as fucking crazy as she is. I almost thought I got through to her last night, but I didn’t. That’s one reason why you’re here. Since I can’t be here with Selene all the time, I wanted someone I could trust to be with he
r until we get this mess settled.” Brody runs his free hand over his face and in that moment, I can see how much this is affecting him. He looks tired and worried.

I bring our hands to my lap and cover them with my other hand in hopes to soothe him a little. Brody looks at me with a small smile.

“So what exactly do you want me to do?” Bradley questions, taking his attention away from me.

“As long as Selene is okay with it, you’re essentially her bodyguard. I want someone with her at all times and at the first sight of Jessica, call the police. You’ll go with her to work, shopping, wherever. If I’m not there with her, you are. We don’t know what Jessica will do, but she’s made threats and I don’t want to take any chances with Selene.” At this, he squeezes my hand. “If I’m on a trip, I prefer you stay the night here with her.” Brody faces me. “Does that sound okay with you?”

Even if I wanted to argue, which I don’t, I know that Brody wouldn’t allow it. I nod. “Yes, and I can fix the guest bedroom. Are you sure we’re not intruding on you, Bradley?”

“Of course not. I’d do anything for my brother, which means I’ll do anything for you too. Plus, it’s good to get away from work for a while.”

“Well, thank you.” I’m not sure how it’s going to feel to have Bradley near me all the time, but we need Jessica out of the picture and until that happens, he’s here. I do know one thing for sure. I already feel safer.

  Chapter Sixteen

  Brody

I sit on the bench and look out at the ice. Practice is over, but I can’t seem to leave the rink. I think about the past month and all that has happen. Buying a house, dumping Jessica, and now being stalked by her. I think about Selene. The way her dark hair spreads out on the pillow when I lay next to her. The way she cuddles with me on the couch. The way her dark eyes sparkle right before we have sex. The way her laugh makes me smile. I love everything about her.

  Love.

There it is again. The word that I thought I would never say to anyone. The only kind of love I have ever felt is the love of hockey. Being on the ice is what I love. Until now.

“I figured you were still here.” I look up to see Kris walking over to me on the bench. “You shouldn’t be alone until your stalker is taken care of.”

“Do you really think my stalker traveled all the way to Boston?”

“Did your stalker show up at your girlfriend’s house and go bat-shit crazy?”

  I chuckle. “Good point.”

Kris sits down next to me. “What are you thinking about, Meatball?”

I look at Kris and debate if I should tell him that I’m sitting here, thinking about love. “I need to ask you something.”

  “Alright.”

  “You can’t laugh.”

  “Okay.”

I clear my throat and shift on the bench. “When did you fall in love with your wife?”

“That’s easy. I fell in love with her on her doorstep the very first time I kissed her. I knew that moment that she was for me and there wouldn’t be anyone else.”

I look back out to the ice as his words sink in. I think about Selene, our first kiss, and all my feelings.

“Why are you asking?” I don’t answer him right away. “Brody?” he pushes.

“The other night when Jessica showed up and began to ramble on how much she loves me, I blurted out that I love Selene. Now, I’m sitting here in a fucking ice rink, thinking about how much I do love her. It’s killing me that I’m not with her, especially with all this shit that is going on. I know I sound like a damn girl, but I do. I love Selene.”

“So, is loving someone a bad thing?” he asks, sounding confused.

“No, but I didn’t plan on ever falling in love again. I had a bad relationship and I don’t want to get hurt again,” I say quietly.

“Brody, I’m going to say this to you because I think you need to hear it.” I look up at Kris. “Shut the hell up!” He shouts so loudly that it echoes through the arena.

  “What?”

“Everyone has bad relationships. Everyone. The point of the bad ones is to show you when the right one comes along. I’ve never seen you this happy since I’ve known you. When we were at that dinner your face lit up every time Selene said something. It was a little nauseating, actually. Forget about that relationship and focus on Selene.”

I stare at Kris in disbelief. Not because he was so abrupt, but because he’s right. Why am I focusing on everything but Selene?

“Thank you, Kris.” I’m glad that he said that to me. He’s right.

“You’re welcome, Meatball. Now, let’s get back to the hotel and grab some food.” He slaps me on the back, gets up, and walks away from me. I look out at the ice again before I follow him.

I had a good dinner with the team, and for the first time, I didn’t feel so stressed out by everything. It’s nice, and I feel better. After I say goodnight to the team, I go up to my room. I want to call Selene, privately, and see how her day went today. With Bradley there, I’m sure it was okay.

“Hey, I figured that you would be hanging out with the team?” Selene voice instantly brings a smile to my face.

“Not yet. I wanted to call you first and see how you were.”

“I’m good. I have your mirror image following me around like I’m some Hollywood celebrity. All I need is some paparazzi, and I’ll be on the front of a magazine in no time.” She giggles.

I love that sound, and I’m glad that she’s okay. “We might look similar, but I’m better looking.”

She sighs a little. “I don’t know, Bradley seems to have the edge on that. Plus, he is older, and I do like older men.”

“Three minutes. That’s it. It’s only three minutes that he’s older than me.” I grind my teeth at her.

She laughs loudly. “I’m joking, Brody. Listen, everything is fine. No crazy bitches or stalkers coming around. My day was uneventful. Bradley, Allison, and I are heading out for dinner in a little bit.”

A ping of jealousy races through me. It’s not because of my brother, but because I want to be there with her. “I miss you, Selene,” I say before I can stop myself.

“I miss you too, Brody, but you will be home in a couple of days, and we can have some alone time,” she adds softly.

“Hmm, I can’t wait. I’ll talk to you soon.” She tells me the same thing, and I lay back on the bed when I hang up.

I’m relieved that nothing has happened to her today. Maybe everything is working out, and Jessica got the hint. I look at my phone and realize the game is a few hours away, and we need to get ready. I jump up and hit the shower. When I’m done, I get my suit on and meet up with the rest of the team.

The game was rough, but not as bad as I thought it was going to be. I’m a little surprised that we won, but Kris is good at last minute goals. After several media reports and numerous questions about my absence, I’m back on the bus. Of course, everyone’s happy, laughing, and joking on the bus. Normally, I would yell at the rookies for being overly loud, but not tonight. Let them have their fun.

I pull my phone from my pocket, and I see two missed calls from my lawyer. Why is he calling? My heart speeds up a little. Is something wrong? Is Selene okay? I send a quick text to Bradley.

  Me: Everyone ok?

Bradley: All good here. You ok?

  Me: Yep, just checking in.

Bradley: Good game, by the way

  Me: Thanks

I become more anxious as we pull up to the hotel. I don’t want to talk to the lawyer in front of the team. They don’t need to know about my personal problems.

“We have a problem,” my lawyer answers. I dialed his number as soon as I walked into my room.

“And what is that?” I ask.

“Jessica’s lawyer contacted me. She’s claiming that she is pregnant with your baby.”

I nearly drop the phone. This can’t be happening. “Are you kidding me?”

“I hate to ask this, Brody, but is there any possible wa
y that she is?”

I try to think in my head if this could be possible. “I used a condom with her. I never have sex without it.”

“Well, her lawyer is supposed to be getting me the doctor’s confirmation on this. As soon as I know more, I will contact you.”

I don’t say anything else and end the call. I’m in complete shock. The second I think that I’m in the clear from that crazy bitch, she pops right back into my life. How am I going to explain this to Selene? She’s already unsure of a relationship with me. Then again, I’m not sure I want to cause her anymore stress.

Hell, I don’t want any more stress. This time last season, I was on the track to over fifty goals. Now, I’m lucky if I’ll get twenty the whole damn season. Not only is Jessica affecting my personal life, now it’s my professional. I’m not going to take this any longer. She can’t be really pregnant. There’s no way. Yes, I had sex with her, but I never, ever forget to wear a condom. I shake my head as I strip off my suit. I’m not going to tell Selene over the phone. I owe her the respect to tell her face-to-face. That way she has the right to slap me right across it.

  This sucks so much.

  ~

The plane ride and the car drive home is torture. I don’t want to have to say these words to Selene, and I don’t know what her reaction will be. I pull into my driveway and see her car is at her place. Man, I wish I didn’t have to do this. My stomach is in knots. All I want to do is hold Selene, make passionate love to her, and not think of anything else.

“Brody!” She leaps into my arms, and the smell of fresh flowers is intoxicating.

“I’ve missed you,” I whisper, holding her tightly in my arms.

“Missed you too.” She pulls back and kisses me. Her soft lips against mine is something that I have missed so much. “Glad you’re back.”

“Oh, you might not be saying that in a few minutes.” I have to tell her right away. I can’t wait until later.
